Excellent for lunch! The place is empty right now because former owners focused on night time, club/bar biz. At this point you can get in and get out quickly for lunch. They will be packed like the other South Park Mexican restaurants soon…

Another great Mexican restaurant in Seattle. I have been here multiple times and have tried different dishes and I must say they have been really consistent! The quality, the flavor, their customer service always excellent!

Authentic Mexican. Great food and it was fun to speak with Priscilla. We had Chicken Chimichangas to go — but next time I’m staying and having the steak tacos. Yummy!

Back again for lunch. This time around 11:30 on a Tuesday. Again the only ones in the place. We wanted the nachos but we’re disappointed to find out they hadn’t turned on the deep frier(that’s the secret) so those were a no-go. Got the steak tacos. Three each was not quite enough buy also got a quesadilla so that helped fill the hole. The girl who took our order also helped what I believe was her grandmother make the food. It was only the two of them there. She was very sweet and the food was delicious. Again.

The original owner, Priscilla, is BACK! She sold the restaurant in the early 2000’s and recently came back to build the business back up again. The food is AMAZING, the service is second to none, and we are going to be eating there again and again! Go back and give it another try! You won’t be sorry! :) :)

love this place, good food, good people, but sometimes men get too drunk and makes the women that come here uncomfortable and the parking is horrible !!

Not very good. The food was mediocre; my beans and rice were lukewarm, and the chimichanga was mainly chicken and bean juice. The bathroom also had not been cleaned recently as there was vomit in the urinal. Personally, I wouldn’t go back there anytime soon

Not so much. We went tonight, looking for something in the South Park area. Maybe it’s because the bridge is out, but only one other customer, quiet except for the TV. Service was mediocre at best. Ordered the fajitas(chicken and steak) and they came out looking great. Unfortunately no flavor at all, veggies seemed old, served with corn tortillas(I prefer flour, but not given an option), beans and rice were fine. It was disappointing. We won’t be going back. $ 31 with tip, no drinks.

I am ok with the Ranchero music playing at a «festive» level in the bar. The salsas were superb and in my experience indicate that good things are coming. Unfortunately the food was average at best with pricing higher then the food quality. Mex sodas for $ 2.50 is a bit much. The burrito was rice, beans, flour tortilla with sad burrito sauce. The service was tentative at best; I was not expecting the server announced«sir your bill is 32.50» in lieu of providing a written bill.

I used to be a regular here back in the 90’s. I get the impression that it’s not the same ownership anymore. The food today was a B-, I recall them being closer to an A– level. The service was good and the price was fair, but the flavor just wasn’t what I recalled. That said, I wouldn’t steer you away, but with the concentration of Mexican restaurants on the block, I would definitely eat elsewhere given the choice.

Seriously I will never spend another dime here. I went the first time with some friends and the waitress asked everyone if we spoke spanish I am mexican american but don’t speak spanish :-(we all said no and she looked at us like we were stupid and walked away wtf! She came back and took our order with attitude. The food wasn’t horrible but I’ve definitely had better. Sooo the second time we go its during the day same question«you speak spanish» us «no» same stupid look. I just need a margarita so I get one my friend asked how much a drink was and the lady told him. I get my margarita and literally there is no tequila in it at all I even passed it around the table to make sure it wasn’t just me. we go to pay because id rather spend money on a drink that actually has alcohol in it ie. Loretta’s. So we pay and this same lady that told us how much the drink was charges us $ 1 more than what she originally told us we called her out and she did change it, its not much money but still after paying for a liquorless margarita its the whole principal of the matter.

brush up on your spanish: authentic mexican eating here. BONUS: if you prefer dining in places with minimal squealing children, this is your spot. It’s mostly a mellow adult crowd. LOVE the salsas(they serve this bright, spicy, citrusy verde that is *just right*). reasonable prices. big burritos. and since I’m a mostly-vegetarian, muchas gracias from me for the fresh and crispy veggies on the bean tostada. That’s how it should be. quiet during the day with lots of windows light and space in the dining room. apparently there’s karaōke some nights in the lounge, I’ll have to check back.

I highly recommend the chile relleno and going during the day. Someone on here had mentioned that the jalepeno sauce is the bomb… it really is the bomb. Also, this place is not for picky eaters.

This was a pleasant surprise. While looking for a place to have quick lunch in South Park, I stumbled on Juan Colorado. Lots of chips and salsa and the guacamole had a nice bite to it. I had the carnitas tacos and they were very good, served with rice and refried beans. The Negro Medelo was cold. Not a very pretty place but the service was good and the food came fast. Glad I found a place so close to work.

After tasting lots of wine we needed some substance to help absorb the wine before we left South Park. We decided we’d be brave and head into one of the many Mexican restaurants around, if it wasn’t raining we were going to do the taco truck but since it was we decided to give Juan Colorado a try. We walk in and Mexican music is blaring in the bar which seeped into the dining room. Yes I admit we weren’t brave enough to sit in the bar, I thought about it but remembered how much I hate tequila so I passed. We sit down and chips and salsa are delivered, I have to say the salsa sucked but the atmosphere was f-in awesome and kind of made up for it, plus the rickety table we were seated at added to the whole experience. I really felt like I was back in South San Diego eating in one of the many Mexican restaurants in the barrio only I was in South Park and we were the only gringos in the joint. I decided on an al pastor, pollo and carnitas taco for me with a side of guacamole, he went with a bean burrito. One of the best things was seeing someone’s abuela in the kitchen cooking the food, this made me think the food was going to be good. Our food arrives, I attack my pollo taco first which was loaded with lettuce and tomatoes, the pollo was a little on the dry side just ok not bad, I had wished it was more a pollo asado instead of just shredded pollo. Next up was the carnitias, it seemed greasy but it was tasty topped with just onions and cilantro the way street taco’s are suppose to be made. Last was my al pastor and this was the greasy culprit, very greasy and it was what seeped onto my carnitas taco, I’ve had better al pastor in Seattle so I wasn’t a huge fan it was just ok. The tacos were only $ 1.75 each, more expensive than a taco truck but still cheap for Seattle. And for the two of us our bill was only $ 16.00 pre tip, two diet cokes, three tacos, a side of guacamole and a bean burrito plate; it was almost as cheap as the barrio. If you’re missing out on seeing some major mustaches, wrangler jeans and cowboy boots come to Juan Colorado because you’ll get your fill here, plus as we were leaving they were having a band setting up so they have live music too, cheap food and live music where else can you get that in Seattle?

I only give a one-star markdown because of Juan Colorado’s apparent stocking issue. We went midday on Sunday and they were out of beef(!?) for half of the dishes, but not for their signature Enchilada Beef Colorado(or something like that). Also the language barrier was very strong. We wound up getting a couple of beers we didn’t ask for, but hey, beer. I want you dear reader, to walk away from this review thinking that Juan Colorado is the final frontier of authentic Mexican food here in Seattle. It is. I had a friend from Denver(yes, Colorado), for whom a deal-breaker about her move to Seattle being permanent, was its lack of an avocado tostada. Being from the great PNW, I had never heard of such a product, and she assured me that I am missing out. Juan Colorado serves just such an item! I didn’t taste it because I took the server’s suggestion about Chicken Mole enchiladas, and by the time she came back to tell me they were out of chicken(??), I was so gorged on the fresh and fabulous guacamole, I had forgotten about the tostada and just ordered a bean burrito. Who this place is for: The budget-minded adventuring culinary seeker with a yen for authentic Mexican food Who this place is not for: The hurried yuppie who wants a guarantee of a seat with no rips in it, the dirtyfloorophobe, the person who’s annoyed by loud mariachi music. I am clearly the former type of person, and thank Guadalupe for small favors.

I have found my heart in South Park. For Mexican food, that is. The small strip of genuine Mexican joints, including the aptly named«Muy Macho»(review to follow later), gives me hope that Seattle isn’t so devoid of Mexican food that hasn’t been completely gringo-ized. Juan Colorado… it looks like a total dive and you will be unsure of whether or not they’re really open for business, but the waitress will greet you with a smile, set you up with their delicious chips and salsa, and recommend, in broken English, what’s good. I have not found better(i.e. authentic like my mama in NM makes) tamales anywhere else in the city. The enchiladas are STUFFED with whatever you choose(I dig chicken), and best part: Lunch specials are about $ 6 bucks. And come with rice and beans. And of course their awesome, perfectly balanced salsa. And a free drink if you’re a Sea Mar employee. Come here if you want real Mexican food, to be surrounded by the city’s densest population of Latinos, and don’t want to spend a lot on a great meal.
