I wanted to try a new burger place on the ave. This place was nice and big and pretty clean. It’s also a good deal as well you got a combo meal for 7.50. The owner is nice and one of the managers likes talking and it was nice to have a conversation with him. This meal was filling. Usually when I eat to fast I’m still hungry, but not this time. I recommend this place for anyone that wants a bigger restaurant on the ave that serves good burgers and Asian food. Next time I’m here I will try some Korean food.

Tried to go here on August 27th during normal business hours. It was closed. Their phone has been disconnected. It’s too bad, because I had a daily deal coupon to use. Based on other reviews, doesn’t sound like I’m missing much though.

Honestly, I find it to be hard to be impressed by this place. It happens to be located on the Ave, yet I’ve passed by it all this time without noticing it, strangely enough. Maybe the fact that I was under 21 most of that time had something to do with it. Anyway, I finally came here after finishing up my last college class, and I wanted a hamburger, fries, and a beer to make that night really fun. Well, that wasn’t quite what I got. I presented them with a coupon I had gotten a few months earlier for a special deal. A hamburger, fries, and a beer would be nine dollars with the coupon. They told me that the coupon was issued under the previous management, and that it didn’t apply to the current management. They decided to be nice and just took it anyway. So that would be a good meal for nine dollars. The beer came right away in a large mug. For everything else, I waited and waited and waited… It was fifteen minutes before the burger and fries arrived. Holy cow. That stuff is supposed to be fast food. Fifteen minutes is slow even by normal restaurant standards, and these guys weren’t even that busy. Oh well. The burger was fairly large and juicy. It was pretty good, but also generic. It wouldn’t be too difficult to put together something similar at home. The fries were something else, though! They’re nice and plump with ruffles on the edges. Best part about them is that they’re full of potato and clearly not overcooked. That seems to be a rarity with fries these days. Downing that all with a beer was a great pleasure. It’s too bad that they couldn’t deliver the food a bit faster, because otherwise I think I would have given them four stars.

It was an adventure to try a Korean dish in a burger joint in the u district. I was attracted by its A board late at night. For $ 10 a meal for a big bowl of Dol Sot Bi Bim Bob with chicken was not bad except that everything were served cold except the rice in the stone bowl. Miso soup was cold with a few others small condiments. Prices of other items seemed to be higher than many other restaurants in the district. Not sure how long they can last if business not improved.

The food is GOOD. The service is weird. I felt like I had to look at 3 different places at once to understand what the menu options were. Why isn’t there one cumulative menu? Why is this so awkward? I really REALLY like the food though. My husband LOVED his Korean dish. It is a tad on the expensive side but they do feed you well!

This place is an okay spot on the ave, sort of weird that they would combine Korean and American food. Are they trying to pull off the Pan Asian theme or what are they trying to do? The food is okay but nothing special. The service is kind of weird. Your order Ivar’s style and they bring out the food. I’m a person that never pays with cash, I only use a debit like most people– they don’t give you an option to tip? Why leave your customers with such an awkward experience?

Happy hour here is where it’s at. 6−8PM Mon-Fri. 2.50 beers, 1 dollar off the much aforementioned burgers, and good wifi. The hawaiian chicken burger(6 dollars after happy hour discount) and the blue moon white(wait, for 2.50? sweet!) were both great, the wifi was a little confusing but great once I figured it out(use the rocknrollgrill network with no caps!), and the lady was super nice. The burger came with fries, and those were pretty good too. I’m coming back and bringing my posse. Don’t worry, we’re nerds, you can probably take our turf if you want.

A huge step up from the sketchy fish and chips place that was here– Haven’t tried the burgers but the korean food is awesome, same sides as the korean tofu house but 2⁄3 the price!(yes I am laughing at the 2 reviews who are complaining about how expensive a $ 7 burger and fries is) The theme is un-ironic 50’s diner meets Korea, which for me was just unique/weird enough to work. There’s room to study, cheap lunches, a friendly owner, attentive staff, giant portions, lots of outlets, and it looked like they’ll have a full bar. Awesome.

This rating is based on the Korean food. Yesterday evening and today, right now, we’ve got ice and snow everywhere. I was craving real Korean food and really wanted Soondooboo(spicy Korean seafood and tofu soup). They were actually open last night despite the snow. It was my first time there, but I saw Korean food on the menu and wasn’t sure what to expect since their menu is like a glorious library of random food from different cuisines. I ordered Soondooboo to go. I wasn’t expecting Banchan(Korean side dish foods) or even rice, but I got it! When I got home, I had a hearty amount of Soondooboo, rice and really yummy Banchan(specifically the Korean sweet salty potatoes, good kimchi, string beans/long beans(marinated just the way I like!), one or two other things I can’t remember, I ate it so fast). The Soondooboo did not disappoint. It had everything I wanted. Crab bits, a whole shrimp, two muscles, and if you know Korean food and know real Soondooboo, this is how it’s supposed to be. This meal made my day! The wait for my order to go wasn’t that long at all. For me, I think they can take their time as long as my meal is as good as it was that time. For getting something like this on University Way where most people run around getting pizza, phở, or Chipotle, I give them five stars. I will definitely come back for their Korean food.

This place used to be a nice little fish and chips place, if you didn’t know. Now, it’s a frenetic mix of way too much. And all at the expense of the final product. Of course, you just can’t come to the place that has everything and expect it all to be done well, but nevermind that, I just went in to try it for a quick lunch while the place was mostly empty, save for a couple in a corner booth sipping what appeared to be soup. But what struck me first was, goodness, those prices. Burgers and wraps, fries cost extra. I mean, really, you gotta pay for that remodeling job, but include the fries, seriously. I didn’t wander by the Asian department in this go-round, but it seemed mysteriously empty. The burger was all I had, just on principle of trying, and it was a decent piece of meat, fairly overdosed with mystery sauces and not-enough veg. For the same price a burger AND the fries would run me at many other fine Ave-stablishments. Okay, it wasn’t like I paid $ 7 for complete and utter disappointment, but when I could walk down the street to find cheaper and better, I think from now on, this place isn’t gonna be high up on the list of options.

2.5 stars for the record, but I rounded down based on quality of food. PROS: — Owner is friendly – I see him making conversation with every customer, trying to get to know them — It’s spacious for an ave restaurant, and it’s conveniently located on the bottom of the ave, for all you lazy people who don’t want to walk up the hill. — LOTS of random choices — Korean dishes, wraps, asian/non asian burritos, burgers, misc breakfast stuff, teriyaki, etc. When I say random, I mean random. If you don’t know what you want, you can come here and find some combo of food you’ve never heard of before… how innovative in that sense! — The place is overall very clean for the ave actually. I appreciate clean restrooms, because I absolutely hate public restrooms. I gag thinking about them and avoid them at all costs. This place has got it down in terms of having clean restrooms though. Brownie points! CONS: — As is anything on the ave, it’s expensive. $ 7 for a burger or wrap, but it’s so mediocre for the price. I feel like I could go to the Ram and get something 4x better in terms of quality for just 2 bucks more. — It’s very empty. This spot is an unlucky spot it seems since no business has lasted there for more than a school year and this is coming from someone who enrolled at UW in 2006 and still droppin’ by the U-D area once in a while… bad spot I guess. — It’s a little slow depending on what you order. I got my food right away, but my friend’s took a while. I mean it’s a good thing that it took them a little time to make stuff, but if you’re trying to run somewhere on a schedule, as university students and ave patrons usually are, it’s not ideal Overall, it’s just another Korean/teriyaki/burger place on the ave. Ho hum.

Went to this place on a whim after a hard day at work… felt like trying something new and saw this place… still has a «Grand Opening» sign on it. First thing I noticed was their menu, very diverse. Which means there is something here for everyone, or most everyone. When I walked in, the place wasn’t too empty, about 10 people or so. The space was pretty big, with two big screens showing«The Office».nice touch. Anyway to the food, I ordered the Classic Burger. I must say this was good, nice use of sauce and Kaiser buns. However, the meat was a little rough, but still pretty decent. The fries were OK, but I could say that about most fries on the Ave. Anyway, the service was good for me, however I did notice some issues with other people’s food, being returned or without what was supposed to be on there. Overall, it was good to try, but I probably won’t be back.

Another burger/asian food place. What’s the difference between this and the other restaurants on the ave? One. The burgers here are actually pretty good. They have a lot of variety and the meat was cooked well everytime i ordered a burger. My favorite, is the hand-cut fresh fries that they give with their burgers. It doesn’t make me feel like I’m gonna get a heart attack after I eat it. So that’s a plus: D. Two. They have wraps! The ave is filled with unhealthy foods, which we all love. But, it’s nice to taste some fresh food once in a while. That’s what subway is there for. Now, there is Rock ‘n Roll Grill with wraps. I only tried one wrap and it was pretty good. They also come with the hand-cut fries and it comes at a relatively cheap price. I recommend coming here maybe at least once if you have never come. If you don’t want to try another burger or asian food place, try one of their wraps. I just don’t like how loud they play their music.

It’s alright. Basically has a pleeeethora of types of foods: burgers, Chinese food, Korean, teriyaki, blah blah blah. It doesn’t do anything particularly WELL, but it’s NOTBAD either. It’s huge and spacious inside, nice décor, overall a decent place to grab a quick bite. Relatively cheap as well :).

Felt glum about impending graduation, so I decided to treat myself right and use my buy one meal get one meal free coupon all for myself. I ordered a barbeque chicken burger and the honey sesame cihcken. The honey sesame chicken was really good compared to other ameracanized fast-food chinese places on the ave and the burger was done well, with bacon and onion rings, although the chicken they used seemed an odd choice for a burger. As other reviewers have mentioned, the prices are a bit steep compared to other ave joints, but hey, I had a coupon. And I have more, so I’ll probably be trying some of their korean food soon.

wow the fries here are absolutely delicious! They’re hand cut and fried to perfection. I also love how they have such a big variety of vegetarian options for their burgers. Their burgers are absolutely delicious!(try the Cali burger!) This place was worth every penny!

Went here last week to try out their menu. It looks like they had just opened that week. I noticed that they are trying to cover the broad spectrum of foods by offering different types of foods. Prices are a bit higher then some of the other competition on the Ave. Services: I tried out their ‘Old Fashion’ Bacon Cheeseburger and got it to bring back to work. Waiting for 15 minutes with no food in sight so I asked the cashier about my order. There was a clamoring in the kitchen a the cook said that they had already made my order. They dug through the completed tickets and found my order. I was told that they gave my order to someone else who had ordered after I did. 5 more minutes past and they called the order for the person they had given my food to already. So they just boxed that one for me. Not very happy with how that went seeing as they had more then enough wait staff. 2 Cashiers, 6 people in the kitchen, and 2 – 3 wait staff. The need to find a better way of keeping track of orders. All they ask for is a name from the person but the wait staff don’t call out the names. The cooks do when the order is up but they can barely be heard. Using numbers or calling names would work better. Food: The burger was really underwhelming. The patty was small compared to the bun they used. Does seem like they only have one size of buns and it’s meant for the 1⁄3 pound gourmet burgers and not the ¼ classics. Vegetables were fresh and the bacon was well cooked. But the burger patty was dry and tasteless. Looks like they had pressed the burger down while cooking which drained it of any juices. Fries were undercooked and just barely done. Looked like the oil wasn’t hot enough to crisp up the fries. I’ll give them another try to see if they’ve gotten use to being open and to see if they made any improvements. Hopefully they can do better.

Decent burger but fries were extremely undercooked and price was steep for the quality. To add insult to injury, they don’t take American Express despite the emblem on their front window. Not a big deal but still annoying. If they learn how to use the fryer this place might be ok, but you can do much better on the ave for the price.

NOTE: this review applies to the previous incarnation of the Rock ‘n Roll Grill. It is now a completely different business. You know what the Ave needs? Another burger place. No, a Korean teriyaki place. Or, wait, Chinese. How about all of the above? Rock ‘n Roll grill is practically a food court, serving all the above cuisines as well as a bunch of wraps, and possibly other stuff that I didn’t notice. There are basically two burger menus, an ‘Asian’ food counter(Korean, teriyaki, Chinese) and a counter selling tortilla wraps. Over the course of several visits, I tried a good cross-section of their menu. I started with the spicy chicken teriyaki. The sauce was not bad — sweeter than I’d have liked, but not cloying; decent spicy kick. Would have made a decent BBQ sauce. The meat, sadly, was kind of rubbery and not particularly flavorful. I also tried the bibimbap. Pretty much exactly what you’d get at any of the other Korean teriyaki places on the Ave. As always, slightly better than the teriyaki. If you order from the Asian section, I’d stick with the Korean menu.(Oh, and they have ramen.) They serve two lines of burgers: ‘old-fashioned’(quarter-pound of ‘fresh beef’, on a sesame bun) and ‘gourmet’(third of a pound of charbroiled Angus, freshness not specified, on kaiser, with more toppings to choose from). They also have chicken, fish, turkey and various vegan options. I tried an old-fashioned double cheeseburger. Not terribly impressive: the meat was dense, gray and sausagey, with no discernible crust. The Greek burger from the ‘gourmet’ line fared better: browner on the outside, pinker in the middle, beefy enough to taste. It came with feta and a medium-sized garden’s worth of vegetables, damp enough to make the bun soggy, but I didn’t mind. Both burgers came with fries. Lacking crispness, but well-seasoned, skin-on. They’ll grow on you if you think of them as oddly-shaped home-fries. I haven’t tried the wraps, and won’t, because they’re wraps. But they come with a choice of tortilla varieties, with homemade potato chips on the side. Overall, there are better places in the area to get each of these kinds of food. But if you want everything in one place, well, here you go.
