This is a relatively new place recommended to me by a coworker. It looks like Private Chef is heavily geared towards the delivery/pickup frozen food niche, but now they offer ‘takeout’. I put it in quotes because while they give you a bag with fruit, water, a chocolate and entrée, the entrée is frozen. They do offer to heat up the food for you in-store, which is great; just don’t expect to be able to go there and sit down for a meal. It’s pretty much an office with large freezers of food. To speak of the food, however, I had the Jamaican chicken combo, and the flavors were quite delicate for what looked like a frozen TV dinner. Once heated, the spices definitely were aromatic, and the food was great. While in some meat you can see the vestiges of water from the freezing process, I think their flash-frozen entrees are heads above your average Hungry Man tray. The best thing I can see about Private Chef is still their ‘bulk’ frozen entrees. Apparently, they don’t ship any more because of orders getting lost or something, but they do deliver in the Greater Seattle area(you’ll have to double check this with them; I stopped paying attention to what they were saying as soon as I saw the chocolate in the display). I recently got a certificate for a half dozen meals(all meals are enough for two, by the way, if you’re wondering why they’re at like $ 15-$ 16 an entrée), and I’ll do an update once I hear how they liked it(if I’m not staring at the chocolate again). Did I mention the chocolate? Apparently they are hand crafted by the chefs employed, and while they are a big pricey, like ½ lb for $ 25, they are quite good. They come in a variety of colors, and the one I got free with my lunch(not sure if that is a regular occurrence) was a great viscous chocolate filling inside a colored shell. I’d recommend Private Chef if you need a quick dinner that’s all natural on the way home, or if you have a need for a picnic lunch(remember to heat it up first, unless you eat your chicken Eskimo-style, encased in ice) on the way somewhere.
