Tasty food, but a bit a pricey. However, I have yet to encounter another Peruvian restaurant in Seattle. I’m sad it’s closed. I’m looking forward to it opening up again.

We probably caught the restaurant during a bad time: under staffed, under stocked, and under renovation. The quick info: Very friendly host/chef/cashier. Lacked service, lacked menu items, and the food was okay at best. The other info: My husband and I showed up to the restaurant during their regular hours on a weekday, but noticed all of the lights were off. Even the hours posted on the door indicated that they should’ve been open, no signage otherwise. The owner/chef was coincidentally just around the corner, ran up to us and deeply apologized for not yet posting the new hours on Facebook. He said that they will be open only on Fri-Sun because of some sort of remodel. No problem. So we went back that Friday around 4pm. It appeared that only the owner(super friendly guy) was working as host, waiter, chef, and cashier. Luckily we were the first table to sit down, but the other 2 tables after us had to wait a long time to get their orders placed(note: we only ordered one entrée, and one ceviche). The restaurant also probably did not have 50% of their menu items. We initially asked for a sandwich and entrée, both of which were unavailable. The chef basically told us what to order based on the ingredients he had in stock. The chef was a really friendly host. However, the food being just okay, the lack of service, and 2 hour duration for ceviche and a small amount of pricey steak and fries, gives it an overall 2-star rating.

This restaurant is owned by the nicest man. He will give you a brief history of Peruvian food before serving you a very delicious meal. A party of six, we decided to go family style. I definitely suggest the ceviche. This is a place that I want to come back and try everything on the menu. I will be back!

OK — When you first walk into Mixtura, you might feel put-off by the décor – and think«um…I don’t know…» But once you meet the friendly proprietor you’ll feel like you’ve been invited into his home for dinner. He was so gracious and so passionate about the food he cooks, and it really comes through in the product. We ordered ceviches and loma soltado and the portions were very generous. The food was so delectable that we could barely stop eating. The ceviches are a must-have!

We were actually on our way to a different restaurant when we happened to drive by Mixtura. The sign can be hard to see and it wasn’t clear that it was even open at first, but we decided to try it on a whim and I’m glad we did! Parking on Aurora is tough — your best bet is probably the strip of gravel outside Washelli cemetery on N 115th. Or the large, free Home Depot parking lot is just a half-block up the street… just sayin’. We sat down for a very late lunch/early dinner around 4 pm, and there were just a couple of groups eating when we came in. The friendly owner came over and asked if we had been there before, then launched into a speech about the history of Peru and its cuisine(a speech we heard several more times verbatim as the tables around us filled up). He was happy to explain menu items and recommend dishes for those who had never tried Peruvian food before. He also brought a small bowl of a crunchy corn snack as an amuse bouche. Of course we had to try the lomo saltado, and as a ceviche lover, I wanted to try their classic ceviche too. The presentation was elegant, with fancy oversized plates and careful attention to detail. I’m used to the big, sloppy, gravy-soaked pile of food you get at no-frills joints like San Fernando, but at Mixtura it’s smaller portions, higher prices, and nicer plating. The beef was tender and had a rich, kind of smoky flavor that was different but good. The ceviche came in large chunks of fish topped with thin slices of red onion, and sides of sweet potato, yucca, and white beans, all sitting in a VERY strong lime juice. I like lime, so I didn’t mind, but it could be too much for someone who doesn’t like sour citrus as much. The owner suggested chicha morada, which I haven’t been a huge fan of in the past, but we tried a glass anyway. He explained that it’s made with fresh organic ingredients, and the difference really shows — the flavor is lighter, less sugary, and absolutely delicious! Definitely the best I’ve had. Other people noted a long wait for food, but we didn’t experience that — it looks like he now has some kitchen staff helping out, so maybe things are moving faster now. Service was prompt until after we were done with our food and the bill just… wouldn’t… come. So be sure to ask for your bill as they’re clearing your plates, or you’ll be waiting a while. Most of the entrees run in the $ 15 – 20 range(sandwiches are more like $ 8 – 12), so it’s a little spendy, but you also get very friendly service, cute décor, and date-worthy ambience. If you’ve been curious to try Peruvian food, Mixtura is a great place to start!

My husband travelled for a month in Peru, and has really wanted to find good Peruvian here in Seattle. Tonight we ate at Mixtura, and it was excellent. The guy who served us was incredibly charming and I learned about the history of Peruvian food. We’ll definitely go back.

Although they do not have Pollos la Brasa, a Peruvian classic, I hear they are working being able to serve it soon. What they do have is amazing cevich! Best in town according to me and I’ve had wonderful and authentic ceviche in Peru to compare. I also found their paella quite tasty and their service and atmosphere warm and inviting.

Did you know that there are over 1000 varieties of potatoes in Peru? I’ve been wanting to eat Peruvian food, different and more refined than San Fernando Roasted Chicken, my prayers were answered and then some. The interior is festively decorated but classy. It’s nice and great for a romantic date. The manager/owner came over and warmly greeted us, gave us a brief history on the cultures that contributed to the cuisine of Peru and the diversity of food crops they have. This really makes me want to go to Peru and eat all the potatoes. We ordered the arroz con mariscos and ceviche mixto, and we were advised that they make these dishes to order and it takes some time, so we should get an appetizer while the food was being prepared, so we got the yucca fries. The yucca fries are incredible, they’re crunchy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. You can tell that it was made from fresh yucca from how soft it was. The aji amarillo sauce it came with was delicious. We ate the sauce after eating all the yucca fries. The main courses arrived and they were presented really beautifully. What you cannot tell from the food photos is how big the portions really are. My ceviche mixto had a plethora of fresh and tender seafoods such as scallops, mussels, shrimp, prawn, squid, octopus, fish-fish(rock fish?). They did not skimp on the octopus like most places do. The squid and octopus were especially tender, which is a rarity. The prawn was so delicious, almost creamy. Better than the best sweet shrimp sashimi I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed spooning the leche de tigre(ceviche marinade) into my mouth as well. The ceviche was served with sweet potato, yucca, cancha(fried corn kernels), shredded onion, and a cob of giant corn. It’s hard to tell how big the kernels are from the photo, but they’re the size of corn nuts, each kernel is about the diameter of a penny. It’s starchy and chewy, a very different taste sensation than North American corn. My boyfriend had the arroz con mariscos, which also came with lots of mussels and shrimps. It was really well prepared and so flavorful, a little spicy. The portions were really big so we ended up enough food to eat another meal. So of course we took it all home. To drink, we had the chicha morada, which is a non-alcoholic beverage that Mixturas makes in house from purple corn, pineapple, and cinnamon. We really enjoyed this as well. It looks like they’re applying for an alcohol license, but we’d gladly come back with or without alcohol. We really enjoyed the food and service at Mixturas.

Being a foodie in my own right I am giving Mixtura’s a 1 star. We went there on 12−01−14 My boyfriend and I were thrilled to try something new and had been planning on going here for a few months. We finally had the opportunity to try some of the delicacies Peru had to offer. It starts off as a cute little bistro type setting which was a plus for me. I guess owners mother was visiting and he was short handed. The mother was helping and did not speak a word of English which made it hard to order. We managed to get 1 appetizer and 2 drinks ordered, but had to wait like 30 minutes to order our entrees and that took many attempts to get some attention. We ordered Potatoes with Creamy Huancaina Spicy Sauce which was to die for. Later we ordered Peruvian Chicken Sandwich and to be very honest. There was nothing exciting about it. It was a chicken salad sandwich. I could have made that at home with my eyes closed. Second entrée was a crab and some kind of mashed potato. They messed up the crab dish before we got it. We were given a similar one but with octopus. I had that sent back. When we finally got our crab dish, which was the worst dish ever. The crab had a faint smell of ammonia which tells me it the verge of going bad. It took 2 spoonfuls to realize that the crab was bad and almost a week later. I am still suffering from mild food poisoning. Last dish was a steak dish. Seasoning on steak was good but I was not impressed with it at all. I read fried bananas were going to be served with it. I got steak fries instead. So my overall experience with this restaurant was terrible. We were given bad service, stuck there for 2 hours. both of us have a mild case of food poisoning. I would have left after 1 hour but I was trying to be positive about this place. The prices are too high for what we were served. I am not returning to this place again.

This cute little place is owned by clients of a friend, and she wanted to have her birthday lunch here, so naturally I wanted to love it. I’d never had Peruvian food and was excited to try something new. First off, the place is actually pretty cute, and the parking wasn’t bad. I was really digging the authentic music. However the front door was propped open and it was really cold inside. The 6 other patrons seated closest to the door, my friend and myself all kept our coats zipped up, but I was the only one who seemed to mind so I didn’t say anything. 10 minutes after we took our seats a man finally came to take our order. Another 15 minutes later we were so thirsty I had to go and find my own water for the table. I had ordered hot tea because I was so cold, yeah no tea coming anytime soon. The man appeared occasionally to deliver plates to the 2 other tables. Again, there are only 6 other people in the place! FORTYFIVEMINUTESLATER, with only water(no tea) we got our food. FORTYFIVEMINUTES!!! It was obvious the man was the ONLY person working there, but still! I ordered the chicken causa, which was essentially a cranberry sauce can sized tube of layers… Mashed potato, avocado, potato, chicken salad, potato and topped with more chicken salad and stabbed through with a celery stalk. My friend had the same thing, except with shrimp. We waited 45 minutes for this? Really? Yes really. And you know what? It was freakin delicious. The man(owner, I suppose) apologized for the long wait and explained that he makes every dish to order, and that he was working alone that day. My tea finally arrived after the meal, and even though I was a little miffed and my friend was itching to leave at this point, I sat and drank most of it. Yumm. So if you try this place, and I hope you do, go relaxed and prepared to spend some time there. Bring a book or some cards or a chatty friend to pass the time, and let your tastebuds enjoy themselves.

This place is family owned and is a bit hard to notice while driving down aurora. this is on 115th and right after the cemeteries before Home Depot. The family is super sweet and the seafood here is very tasty. We had the ceviche and octopus potato cake and a flan dessert. each peruvian dish was served chilled which made me wish we were in a tropical location since its fall here in Seattle. great place to try if you’re in the area!

Love this place! Finally a Peruvian restaurant in seattle that’s authentic, reasonable, big portions, and owned by a very nice genuine couple. The food is made fresh on order, and the owner explains the dishes and has passion for what he’s doing. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. I liked it all but favorite was the ceviche. The Ciccia Morada is my new go-to refreshing drink.

My wife and I were pleased to try this authentic, delicious Peruvian restaurant. It was recommended to us by some friends. It has a nice, pleasant atmosphere and very personable and friendly owners. The dishes we had were very delicious and authentic(my wife is Peruvian and I lived there for a couple of years). We tried the Choritos a la Chalaca, Ceviche, and Lomo Saltado. All three were excellent and the juices we ordered to accompany the meal were fresh and wonderful. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. We will be returning very soon and regularly to try more dishes.
