I’ve walked by this place many times since I always make an effort to go to Piroshky Piroshky when I hit Seattle. I also used to buy my clove cigarettes at the local shop down the row. I walked in because I had been wanting to buy incense There is no place near me that sells it, I didn’t feel like driving to Portland for an incense run, I wasn’t sure if World Market(formerly Cost Plus) still carried incense and I didn’t want to buy online. The man behind the register was probably the owner; if not, he was over the top helpful in helping me to look for what I was searching for. The store is a little crowded but it’s jam packed full of fun imports and hippie skirts. I picked up some of the traditional Nag Champa incense and tried another scent by the same company. I was hoping he might have some amber but he didn’t but he did try and help me find amber incense and oils. They just weren’t what I was looking for. The prices were about what you would see on Amazon and it’s a nifty little shop.

If you’re into African inspired gifts, this is the place, however, as Amy mentioned, be careful of the pricing and materials. Most things I found to be reasonable, however, there were a few that were questionable in terms of authenticity that I spotted, specifically one of their boxes. There is a possibility that I am paying import fees, however, things are dirt cheap to begin with that some of the pricing is odd.

The store has a lot of unique gifts. The Owner greeted me with smiles and small talks. Why the 1 star? The 3 for $ 50 sign next to the«Pashmina Shawls». Upon closer inspection you’ll find they’re 100% polyester. Now they’re beautiful shawls with silk feel and they should be advertised as such. Unethical false advertising gets an automatic 1 star for sure.

Looking for something unique? Lungu is a great spot to start. Located downstairs in Pike Place Market, it’s a bit hard to find — but when you do, you see that the owner is awesomely nice and really knows his way around the gifts he’s selling. From the Pike Place Market description, Lugu sells«hand-carved wooden products from Africa and Indonesia. Hand-carved soap stone from Africa and Indonesia. Authentic African and Indonesian clothing, jewelry and lots of accessories.» Gives you a pretty good idea of what they have in the store, right? My girlfriend found a few items of jewelry and a skirt that she loved. We also saw some Henna ink that was tempting — maybe next time. A lot of clothes, a lot of random goodies — you could get lost in thought just looking around.
