I friend suggested this spot for a cocktail and since he is a «wine guy» I didn’t trust him. I learned a lesson. I should trust my friends«wine» friends more. We easily found free parking 50 feet from the door(Go North of Madison and you will be looking for free parking until 2:30 am), walked into a really cool bar, and successfully enjoyed the cocktail menu. If the Brady Bunch had a bar in their basement this is what it would be. Great 70’s feel from the lighting, to the drapes, to the furniture. The best part is you can have a conversation! There is not music blasting in your ears, or people bouncing into your elbows every 2 minutes. I tried a cocktail called«sign of the times» and it is amazing! The ingredients prevents the amateur cocktail maker from replicating it easily. No problem, it just means I have to go to Licorous! Raj(or is it Rog) is a great bartender and appreciates the craft of the cocktail. We always order the peanuts and sliced meat appetizers to get the party started. If you are looking for a cocktail, meander down to Licorous, order a sign of the times, and find yourself satiated!

Been a couple years since I’ve been to Licorous but decided to pop in for dessert yesterday after an amazing dinner at Lark next door. First of all there really isn’t a dessert menu and they only have the 1 dessert item — Brown butter-hazelnut financiers with espresso caramel… Oh damn. These things hit the spot for me! Warm little pieces of over baked goodness with just the right amount of sweetness to end a meal. Unfortunately I paired it with the sangiovese vino and it definitely did no go well together. I ended up leaving most of the glass behind. It was snowing out so it wasn’t really crowded and I ended chatting it up with the bartender who was new. Licorous is definitely a cool neighborhood spot and draws in a varied mixed of patrons. You’ll see the mix ranging from Seattle U college peeps, to Cap Hill hipsters to old lady book club types. Great place to prefunk or share a cocktail with good company… which is their specialty. They have a creative array of libations which I’m sure are all very interesting. They carry over the same theme as Lark in regards to small plate and snack type of fare but definitely not meant to be a dinner spot. I’d say great place to have drinks if you are in the area and want to avoid the crowds and or if you are waiting to dine at Lark.

3.5 Stars DOLLARTACOS!!! Yes that is correct. For an undetermined length of time, Licorous is offering tacos on Tuesdays for ONESTINKINDOLLAR. There are no choices: you get a tiny taco with pork, cotija cheese, some bits of veges, and a dipping salsa. I ate three but wanted five or six. My BF had five and said he coulda eaten more. They were not the best tacos I’ve ever had(the meat was a wee bit dry), but they were the best tacos I’ve ever had for ONEDOLLAR. The handsome bartender was reasonably friendly and didn’t make me feel super lame for only ordering cheap tacos and no adult beverage(my BF had a beer to justify our presence). We had a good time but I can’t really give 4 Stars because there’s not much in the way of food or beer, and I’m just not a craft cocktail kind of gal. Also, they could use more seating. On the plus side, Licorous is decorated beautifully. I’ve developed an appreciation for design and décor with my new job, and they have created a coherent and aesthetically pleasing scheme. Make sure to check out the tin ceiling and cool wooden case that holds the liquor at the bar. I was highly impressed that the graphic on the menus matched the light fixtures. Nice detail. Licorous is all about the details, it’s just a little more swanky and pricey than my usual spots. But I may be back for happy hour. Or those tacos.

Licorous is an absolutely lovely spot for savoring cocktails with either a date or a group of friends. On a recent trip to Seattle, Katy H took me here and I fell in love with the Lark cocktail, made with Prosecco, Campari, and grapefruit juice. The French Elder was also delightful — Lillet, lemon juice and elderflower topped with Prosecco. It seems fairly obvious that I like drinks with bubbly in them, but I was also impressed with the sound of the rest of the drinks as well as the fact that you could get flights of gin, bourbon, or infused vodkas. It’s truly a drinker’s paradise. To accompany the cocktails we ordered a cheese flight and the spicy nuts mixture. I wouldn’t say the food servings are large, but they are nice for snacking. Best of all our service was flawless and she was a fellow Unilocaler — she introduced herself to us during our time there and then I became her Unilocal friend the very next day!

Despite being operated by the same Chef as fabulous Lark next door, this place just barely hovers above lame. The very best thing about the food here was that it was good and served LATE. Now, it’s neither. I was in there with a few friends and they announced last call on us. AT11:30! They didn’t give us a reason for closing early. I’m about done here.

I sat here thinking about this review for days… pondering what I wanted my review to say… what I wanted my review to do… so here it is… Licorous is worth EVERYFRIGGIN star I posted! I’m not going to go into any more details because I don’t want this gem of a spot to become too popular. I get WAAAAY protective over my personal fav’s. I will say the FOOD was AWESOME, the service was STELLAR and the whole experience was just lovely. I want to keep this place all to myself, keep it away in my pocket for a bad day… Licorous is a new Seattle Fav!!!

Nice little bar/cocktail lounge on 12th near Seattle U and right next to the restaurant Lark. In fact, came here for a nightcap after having a long dinner at Lark. Love the atmosphere here — small, and cool décor. Nice bar to sit at or tables, and a few comfy chairs too. Great cocktail menu. Nice servers. I only wish it was a little warmer inside. There seemed to be a draft.

Want amazing and authentic Thai Food along with your cocktails? SHOPHOUSE: Mondays from 5pm to 12pm @ Licorous! «Shophouse is a developing restaurant concept based in Seattle devoted to the craft of traditional street level Thai cuisine.» «Chefs Wiley Frank and Poncharee Kounpungchart prepare downhome dishes like charcoal roasted meats, spicy salads and whimsical desserts. The ingredients are thoughtfully sourced and traditional techniques are utilized by making components in house such as curry pastes and coconut milk.» –http://shophouseseattle.com/ Imagine being able to create the amazing food that you had while traveling… Chef Wiley Frank, Sous-Chef of Lark, was able to do so. While spending a year in Thailand, Wiley created and improved on the recipes he brings to the table every Mondays. The menu varies weekly, the kitchen is open late, and portion sizes let the diner sample much of the menu. The curried fish cakes, the granny apple salad were delicious. More rave reviews:

The cocktails and service, it’s about the cocktails and service! There were quite a few enticing cocktail options on the Licorous menu. I chose to spend a long while sipping the Squire Park(lemon verbena infused vodka with lemon cucumber & pinch of orange salt). I tend to lean more towards beer lately, but their selection was very small and contained nothing that caught my eye. When I find myself here again, I would definitely have to be in the mood for wine, cocktails, or their House Infused Flight. I’m leaning towards the Shiso Vodka, Lemon Verbena Vodka, and Hibiscus Tequila! I was there with a group of fantastic Unilocalers, but I could see this being a great intimate date or «catch up with a friend» spot. Well. as long as that friend likes drinks. I wasn’t especially enticed by anything on their snack menu.(I remember someone saying good things about their Pork belly ssäm with ginger, though.) Most memorable part of the end of our visit was when the gal that had been caring for our(sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly) growing party for 1 – 2 hours told us that she, too, is a Unilocaler. I can’t remember her name right now, but it’s(usually) fun to meet new Unilocalers and I don’t think I’ve ever had someone tell me they’re a Unilocaler when they were working at a place they figured we’d be reviewing… so, that was unique. in a good way, of course. I like honesty.

Whether it’s for the service, the variety, or the quality of the cocktails — Licorous is so deserving of each of these 5 stars! This spot is true to it’s name as Licorous is all about«relishing good food and drinks.» On my most recent visit I opted for the gin flight and was so pleased with the explanation and brief histories given about each brand. I’ve also had a number of their cocktails and have never been remotely disappointed. One of the best bars in town for sure!

Excellent lounge to have a couple finely crafted drinks and nosh on tasty treats and strut your stuff like the well-coiffed fashionista you are. It’s an incredible place to bring a date to, the lighting is immaculate for that dark-enough that I can recognize them from their online picture. The seating is quite comfortable even if they don’t appear so. And most importantly they offer gin flights with an incredible array of choices. The only way this place could be any swankier is if they had Humphrey Bogart standing against the bar in a white dinner jacket with one elbow perched at the edge introducing a patron to the virtues of a gin martini.

Bar — I like it. It’s small and cozy, it sits next to a lovely restaurant, Lark that I really like. Pros: — Bartender, Jeshua, is pretty cute. He wore my helmet once. — Good cocktails. — Cozy/home-y: It’s like a pair of jeans — dress it up, or down = awesome Cons: — Minimal food(pork belly dish is ok, the mayonnaise they put with it is weird and doesn’t make much sense). — Kinda pricey

This was a pretty good bar. It is a nice space and the music was good and at a nice level. I first asked the bartender what he would make himself. He was a little confused. It seemed hard for him to process what he thought he made great. He told me the Manhattan, which is my usual, so there it was. It was a good Manhattan, nothing extraordinary, but good. My friends at the table seemed to enjoy the drinks they ordered. I really enjoyed the pretzel dot sandwiches. I just wish they had a bit of a bigger bar menu. If I am waiting for a table at Lark or in the area looking for a drink I will choose Licorous, but it is not a place I will seek out like some of my other favorites.

Licorous is a cool spot to meet a date and toss back a few cocktails. I like the décor, the rich wood bar and the cozy seating. They’ve got quite a selection of infused vodkas and offer flights of bourbon, gin and their vodkas. There are some interesting and tasty creations on their cocktail menu too. I enjoyed a «Don’s Longing,» a yummy bourbon concoction, kind of like a manhattan but a little sweet. Unfortunately they were a bit short staffed when I showed up and we ended up waiting quite a bit for service. However, the bartender was pretty cool and even split a manhattan for us into two glasses(we each wanted one more drink but not a whole one). I’d definitely bring a date here again.

Another cutie patootie little bar space! We came here while waiting for a table to open up next door. Ordered a lovely ginger vodka drink & a beer(not both for me, mind you), along w/the olives and the cheese plate and were v pleased w/everything that was on our tiny table. The staff is pleasant and jovial. I think we’ll be walking back over there soon.

Licorous is a lovely bar attached to it’s sibling restaurant Lark in First Hill. What I appreciate most about this particular place is the relaxed-but-not-sloppy-dive ambiance. I can waltz in wearing heels or sneakers and not feel too out of place, and still enjoy a glass of wine or a vodka flight for a decent price. I didn’t make it to happy hour, but a trio of us did enjoy a late night drink on a sleepy weeknight. A friend of mine ordered one of the flights, but wasn’t able to handle the strength of the liquor(yes, this place serves up some quality alcohol, lightweights beware!), so the bartender gave him something else free of charge. note: this place is known for it’s mixology and cocktails, so beer drinkers might feel a bit lost(there are only 3 beers on the menu and a small amount of wines-by-the-glass, just FYI). Best suited for quiet, intimate/relaxed gatherings and those who like to sip on creative drinks.

You know in a movie, where the lady goes to a nice bar with a handsome man in a hat, and they have stylish cocktails and lovely glasses of wine, and cheeses like Morbier(with candied walnuts) or little baguette slices covered in tiny dices of tuna confit drizzled with basil oil? And it’s just a little dark, and kind of quiet, the kind of place where the lady and the handsome man can sit inside on a rainy early evening, and the lady feels at home with the long draping lamps and the dark bar, sitting next to the handsome man on the leather-covered banquette? It’s like that…

After a lot of searching for ‘great cocktails’ in Seattle, I’ve come to realize that this is one of the few and far betwixt places in this city who really know their mixology… and NO, I don’t mean the Red Robin variety. I’ve been here a number of times over the last few years and their attention to detail in both the liqs and eats department is quite fabulous. If you’re a bourbon and/or rye fan, their bottles won’t disappoint. Additionally, their Lark cocktail is exceptionally tasty AND lovely.

An ok boozeatorium strategically located next to Lark. Lucky for them. One of those places where you can drop in for a nightcap or a covert rendezvous since no one else is going to come here. James Bond Aston Martin optional. Expect the usual undeservingly priced $ 10 cocktails and somewhat tepid surroundings.
