We live around the corner and get takeout from Kanak usually two or three times a week. My partner and I have both lived in India and Bangladesh a couple times, and we’re picky about our Indian food. The food at Kanak is excellent. We usually rotate between the Chana Masala, Daal Tudka, and(best of all) Shahi Paneer. We also get the Daal Makhani and Malai Kofta sometimes. They’ve all been great. The people who own and work at the restaurant are super nice too. I honestly don’t think I can ever move because I couldn’t stomach the idea of living farther away from Kanak.

Man, it’s tough to find good Indian food in Seattle. This is my favorite place so far. The prices and portions are reasonable. I’ve only tried a half-dozen dishes so far — of them, the Korma has been my favorite. The lamb chops and veg pakoras were also good.

Came here on a Friday night with some friends. First off, love the atmosphere! It’s small but doesn’t feel crowded. It’s perfect if you want to have an actual conversation with your dinner pal. Next, the food was just right for what we were looking for – we were practically licking our plates after we were finished. Will definitely be returning here!

As an Indian who has a decent understanding of authentic indian preparation, I found the place pretty good… we tried the lamb korma… was perfect!

I ordered a takeout and asked for a few changes but received the opposite. Definitely won’t order again.

Nice ambiance, cordial staff, decent naan if you ask them to make it extra crispy. Food frankly sucks.

The chat stuff was good. Veg Biryaani and mutter pander was ordinary. The servers expression made us feel she was doing a favor to us. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but still added to a bad experience.

My boyfriend and I stopped in on a whim and were pleasantly surprised! Food was great as well as the service. Will definitely go back for more. Yum!

This is coming from a indian. The food is pretty good. I had lamb butter chicken with garlic naan and mango lassi. My tummy is happy. $ 20 for all of it. Will come again.

Food(5⁄5), Service(5⁄5), Pricing(4⁄5), and Atmosphere(4⁄5) The waitress(Jessi) was fabulous. I felt very invited from the moment I went in. She was able to recommend the Goa Coconut Curry with chicken, which was fantastic. It was very clear it was made fresh to order since the chicken was so tender, perfectly tender. I ordered mine spicy, which could have probably been even more spicy, but I appreciate them not going overboard like some Indian restaurants. Portion was great for 2 people at a price of $ 14, and maybe order an appetizer which should get y’all full. Naan was separate for $ 2. There’s a large beer and wine selection for those partaking in an adult beverage. This would be a great place to bring a date, or for a group of 4. The place is quite small, so if you have more than 4, it might be a tight squeeze, although I’m sure they’d find a way to accommodate. Overall, if you want to support a great small family restaurant and you love Indian food, go!

Best Indian food we have had in a while. Mango fish curry was excellent, real mango chunks, every bite made me moan a little in a good way. Lamb Kabobs were also good and the side vegetables with the lemony kick were surprisingly tasty. Interior was a little on the small side but cozy, clean and warm. Love the orange walls and the just right volume of Indian music playing softly in the background. This would be a great place for a date.

Butter lamb was great. Paneer was amazing, made in-house, fresh, and it shows. Service definitely above average. Décor dated. Bathroom shared with other establishment. Excellent food and staff but would make a better date place if its look was freshened. Would come back though. Solid.

First time in. This is low cuisine, not haute — but the presentation makes it feel like they’re trying to punch up. I had the lamb vandaloo and the paneer naan. The paneer naan was underwhelming, but the bits that weren’t stuffed were quite good, so I have high hopes for the straight up naan. The lamb vandaloo was, well. I wanted it to have more of an opinion. I got it at 4⁄5 spiciness and, well, it was mild with a bit of a tinge in the finish. The sort of sour vinegariness I associate with vindaloos was a bit thin and stretched here, and died somewhere in the middle of the finish. On the bright side, prices are suuuuper reasonable, apparently curries come with rice(!), service was good(in that nearly oppressively solicitous way), and the curry was quite sharp and crisp rather than cloyingly rich. The last point can be a pro or a con, depending on your point of view. My final note is that the staff had a Dominos pizza behind the counter, which I guess says something about their opinion of the food.

I popped in for lunch and was served promptly and courteously. The lunch menu was not too long but still had plenty of good options.(I’d rather not have a super long lunch menu.) I ordered the Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan. The portions were huge – way more than I was expecting. I especially appreciated all the roasted vegetables accompanying the chicken. They were obviously freshly prepared and featured a great, lemony flavor. The chicken and naan were both tasty without being incredible. I took away leftovers and think two people, as long as they’re not very hungry, could easily share lunch here for less than $ 20. I will greatly prefer returning here over any local Indian lunch buffets, which offer more food for the dollar, but much worse taste and freshness.

Kanak is a solid Indian spot! I got take out here — butter chicken– spicy and garlic naan. The price was $ 15 plus tax and it came with rice. For takeout the basmati was packed in the container. They give you a ton of rice! I appreciate that. The gravy was delicately flavored and very pleasing. However, the chicken pieces were a bit tough and dry. Not horrible but not great. I am disappointed by how often chicken is tough in curries. I would certainly come back and try more items. The portion of butter chicken was decent. I was hungry so I ate the whole thing.

Great naans, yumm curries and even better service/attitude. We went there yesterday, it was raining and windy and the food hit the spot. We ordered the goan curry with lamb and mango curry with chicken with naans. Both the curries were nice and the naans were delicious. I looked over at the table next to us, the chicken tikka looks delicious and not microwaved red tikkas I have seen at many places. I will be trying that out next time. All the servers were very nice. Impressed and will be back!

Yassssss… finally a good Indian restaurant on 15th Ave. Upon walking in to this restaurant, you walk up these stairs and feel like you are entering a new whole new world… haha not really, but I like the how the dining area is elevated; makes you feel kinda special… ANYWAYS…my group of 4 came here around 12:30pm on a weekday and were instantly greeted and seated promptly. The décor of this place is very clean, pretty and inviting! The menu is large and reasonably priced. Dishes we tried were: butter chicken, palak paneer, house lamb curry, lentil soup and garlic naan. EVERYTHING tasted fresh and most importantly delicious! You are also able to order online for your pickup order which is always a nice option. This another great addition to the plethora of restaurants on 15th Ave!

This place was straight up solid. It isn’t a «must-try» or an incredible unique spot — but I simply couldn’t find any knock against it.(Except parking? But that’s Cap Hill) As you enter a narrow unit, you realize the space is on the smaller side. Most of the seating is up a small flight of stairs, near the bar unit in the rear. However, the layout, combined with the décor, makes for a casually intimate ambiance. The service was friendly, the menu had a good breadth of dishes(at an affordable price), the food was served quickly, and the quality was delicious. We shared chicken Butter Masala, Goa Coconut curry with lamb, and Mango curry with chicken, garlic naan, and(unlimited) rice. Each dish was very nice, spiciness levels seems true to the scale, and my friend who claimed to ‘not like lamb’ even liked the lamb curry dish. I’ll be back!

It’s cold and rainy outside. Both my friend and I were too lazy to cook, so we wandered out to this Indian place nearby that we saw just opened a few weeks ago. To our surprise, the restaurant was packed. When we arrived, there were 2 other parties who just got there, too. And as luck had it, we were one of the last people who got the last table at their peak hours! :D We shared mixed appetizer plate(which consist of paneer and spinach pakoras, aloo samosas), kashmiri naan, lamb kebob, paneer tikka masala and gulab jamun as dessert). Boy, we were not disappointed in any dishes at all! The appetizers were tasty and full of flavor, especially with a compliment hint of their mint sauce. The Kashmiri naan was stuffed with dried cherries and(cashew?) nuts, so full of flavor… not too sweet, yet savory enough, too. The tikka masala was wonderful and warmed my stomach… but the best of all was the lamb kebob! The lamb was so well-seasoned, and grilled to perfection! The meat didn’t smell and it was so yummy eating just the meat itself on its own(even if you don’t eat it with rice or curry!). Service was awesome! Their team worked together to help refill us with water or anything we needed(you can ask for more basmati rice, too!). Great job for the wonderful food and service Kanak’s team brings out. We will definitely be back again when we crave Indian food… and oh, it does help that the price was affordable, too! For how stuffed we were with food, the damage was just $ 47 without tip! :D~~ good on stomach, good on wallet… and a wonderful 15th Ave addition!

Clean, cozy, family-run Indian restaurant on quiet 15th Ave. Terrific vegetarian options — unlike most Indian restaurants, they can customize almost any of their dishes with either vegetables or paneer as a substitute for meat. Great service. Great atmosphere. We’re looking forward to our next visit.
