Delicious and creative food(they serve neck for crying out loud) served in a non pretentious way. There is a culinary wonderland in Madrona just waiting for you to discover! The drinks are particularly inventive and are very classic, strong, and delicious. I found the ipad a little over the top — but I doubt that it would bother most.

Came here for restaurant week and was disappointed. The food was pretty good, although a little salty, but the service was terrible. They lost our reservation, but gave us a table anyway, then proceeded to forget about us. No one seemed to be assigned to wait on our table, and we had to wait about 30 minutes between courses. We were there for 2 and half hours, not by choice. I’m usually not too whiny when it comes to service, but if I’m at a fancy place paying a good chunk of money I think it’s important to at least get noticed once in a while.

Overrated and disappointing There was a lot of buzz around June, but the restaurant doesn’t live up to it’s billing. Given how expensive it is, that’s really a let-down. We tried a soup which was quite good, as well as a tasty desert and innovative cocktails, but the entreés were bland and lackluster. Add a server(one of three) who was full of himself and in your face, and the service was annoying. Wait-staff should be unobtrusive but aware of your needs — this guy wasn’t there when eeded, but was in your face up-selling when he did come around. In short, the service was about him, not about us. Yuck.(the other two wait staff were fine, but deferred to him which was too bad). The boeuf bourguignon had fork-tender beef, mushrooms and carrots over mashed potatoes. The gravy was thickened(corn-starch?) and bland, with no hint of burgandy or other wine: all-in-all, sort of like a pot roast, and certainly not a tasty boeuf bourguignon. The vegetarian entreé, a squash special, was bland as could be, and kind of greasy. My partner Patti didn’t even finish her portion. And this is in the Seattle Restaurant week specials — the regular menu wasn’t available(that’s disappointing too). Frankly, if you’re going to spend this much, the food needs to be refined and the service subtle(attentive but not overbearing). June doesn’t make the grade in either respect.

I feel apologetic for having to write a bad review, but I honestly did not have a good experience here(perhaps my expectations were too high). I give June 3 stars because the food was pretty good(going in), but something in it made the rest of my night horrendous. Moreso, I was extremely disappointed that I did not get what I ordered. I was here on a date and when my date arrived, I told him that I had not been to this restaurant before, but had dined in this location previously(when it was Cremant) and did not have a good experience(you can read my Cremant review if you’re curious). I recited the story of my previous experience, and he then stated that it can’t get worse from there, only better. Well, I think he may have jinxed me. We ordered the strawberry salad and the geoduck appetizers. The waiter misheard the order and promptly took away the duck rilletes he had mistakenly believed we ordered and the geoduck arrived not so late thereafter. Both were nicely prepared. Having studied the Unilocal reviews prior to ordering, I asked what appeared to be the manager(he was visiting our table often as well, and I appreciated the attention) if the paparadelle appearing on the menu was one and the same as what everyone on Unilocal was raving about. His response was that the menu evolves constantly(not suprisingly) and that alas, it was not the same. It appears my disappointment had shone through, as he offered that perhaps the chef can still make the paparadelle with chorizo. Of course, that is what I ordered, off the menu, but asked if they can still keep morels on it(the paparadelle item on the menu included morels). The waiter stated that they could, but there may be a slight upcharge, which I agreed to. Well, the dish came, and there was no chorizo in sight. There was no acknowledgment of this fact when the dish came, and only upon politely asking the waiter whether I perhaps missed the chorizo(could it have been mashed into the sauce?) did he state that he too didn’t notice it when he served it to me. He assured me that there would be no upcharge in that event. So that was my immediate experience. The rest of the night, as I alluded to, was one of the more unpleasant physical experiences I’ve had. Something in the food just did not sit well with me, and I suffered for the next 12 – 18 hours. I was probably just unlucky, and am adding this only as a point of reference for you Unilocalers, not necessarily to dissuade you from trying it.

First time visiting but I heard good things from friends. Accepted last minute reservations for a Saturday night dinner. Very friendly staff, each individual made a point to make sure you had a great experience. Ordered: pickled crudité pappardelle grilled cote de boeuf, rostie potato pickled crudité: first time trying, I thought it was great flavor and refreshing. It was a small vegetable to eat and share. pappardelle: very good, the chorizo had a slight kick that was nice. Would recommend! grilled cote de boeuf, rostie potato: It was ok, I think I was expecting more since my friend spoke very highly of it. I have to admit I ate it the next day and thought it was better. If you want cote de boeuf go for it. The rostie potato was a perfect side! Great spot to check out!

Madrona, I don’t get out to see you very often(at all), but you’ve managed to impress me both times I’ve been out here, and made my penultimate dinner in Seattle an excellent and memorable one. Located inside a fairly nondescript building that could easily be passed off as… well, passed off, the interior décor gives off a casual and modern vibe much like that of a quaint little café. But like Tilikum Place in Belltown, the food and drinks are anything but simple café fare. Selecting from an extensive list of original and classic cocktails, I ended up with an excellent and refreshing June Punch. Then from the simpler(and seasonal) menu, I went with a duck rillette from their bites menu(supposedly smaller than appetizers), and an ox tail tagine entrée, both turning out to be great dishes. The rillette was served atop two toasted slices of bread, and while small enough for one, was heavy enough that one would be better off sharing(it’s duck cooked in and served with fat, after all), with ours easily shared across 8 people. The tagine, while not as much so, was also a slightly heavier dish, served up with three meaty segments of ox tail and a side of chickpea salad. Of the other dishes I sampled around the table, the octopus in olive oil and papperdelle were also noteworthy dishes, the former being cooked in such a way that it lost its usual rubbery texture(this is a good thing). And the brioche bitter chocolate bread pudding we had for dessert was also tasty, though I wish there had been more of it. Service here was excellent as well: they didn’t balk when I ended up changing my party size a second time, they had my friend’s phone pre-order prepped just as she asked(she joined us two hours in, and has a celery allergy), and our waiter was both attentive and funny, playing along with our jokes and even throwing in a few of his own. Prices are not bad either, with three easily shareable orders of food and a single cocktail coming out to ~$ 45 after tax.

In an area that is not quick to mind when one thinks of wonderful restaurants is a hidden jewel called June. Nestled along the main road in Madrona, it is a cozy and charming neighborhood restaurant with wonderful décor, friendly and attentive staff, and of course great delicious food at a surprisingly affordable price. I like to come here for breakfast because there’s rarely ever a wait, but I can imagine that changing as more and more people discover this place. Ingredients are fresh and high quality and the flavors of the dishes are well balanced. A lot of attention and care is given to the creation of the dishes and as it shows in the presentation and the consistency of the flavors. The highlights for breakfast are the duck confit hash as well as the prawn and grits. One of the staff boasts that there is a lady that drives over an hour just to get her prawn and grits fix which is completely understandable. What’s more, they make their own jam and ketchup, which rotates often from beet to carrot ketchup that makes you think twice from ever wanting to buy Heinz ketchup ever again. Happy hour is great here as well with the tempura brussel sprouts being the one item I would want to have on my death bed. They also have a brisket burger that is a great take on the usual happy hour burger. Dinner here is good as well, however nothing really stood out which prevents me from giving it five stars. Of course I’ve had dinner here only once so I’m open to have my opinion changed.

I am so, so glad that I was able to hit June as my last restaurant for Seattle Restaurant Week. What a lovely, delicious way to end things. And Madrona? Who knew? June does not look like much from the street but I found the interior very charming. It was light and airy with lovely green accents and flowers on all the tables. We ponied up to the bar to have a pre-SRW cocktail and, right, away, I knew I would like this place. The bartender, who then merged into being our server, was extremely friendly, laid back and quite talkative. And, it turned out, his brother was the chef. A little family action. Excellent! Before our meal, we got the omakase and it turned out to be the most delicious chicken wings I have ever put in my pie hole. Hot, crispy, salty, peppery — they were finger lickin’ heaven. At our table, we started on the ‘real’ food and it was delicious. All of it. We started with the beet salad with goat cheese and the rabbit rillette. Oh… my…god. Thank you, Thumper, for giving your life for such goodness. It was absolutely fabulous. For the main courses, we got chicken with fiddlehead fern and bacon(oh, yes!) and the duck confit gnocchi with peas. It was all exceptional and hot and fresh. After all of that meaty goodness, we wanted to go little light on the dessert. I could not decide between two options and I asked our waiter for his opinion. Not even missing a beat, he flat out backed the lime-apple sorbet with no hesitation. I love that kind of candor in a server. Be so kind as to share your culinary experience! And he was right. We also sampled the lemon rhubarb panna cotta which was light, creamy heaven. I will be back to June and it probably won’t take me long. Their happy hour looks fantastic and goes until 7 p.m. Screaming good food, kick-ass service — check, check. I can’t wait to see what I will get there next.

AMBIENCE — A (cool contempory/gray sparse décor/simple — and clean uni-sex bathrooms!) SERVICE — A– I had to warm up to my male server, but once I got over his dry humor, we were ok… and loved my female server… very friendly! They knew their menu… and offered great suggestions based on how«I» liked to eat! They took their time with me to explain the 3 –4 dishes in their preparation. FOOD — A+ — OVERVALL — everything we had was just cooked deliciously for what it was… PRICE — A — I feel this is affordable good eating for something I personally would never do certain dishes at home! Well, I read the other reviews… and I have to say, I experienced all around GREAT experience tonight from ambience, service, and definitely food! I was in «foodie» heaven! There were 2 of us and we walked in on 3÷17÷11 around 6:45 p.m. there were only 6 other people in the place on this Thurs. nite… so, no one was there to greet me, but made myself known and was told to grab whatever table I wanted… so I grabbed the booth that would have fit 6 comfortably. Took only 10 secs. to warm up to our male server and instantly loved our female server. FOOD — mmmm! Tempura Brussels Sprouts with aioli — perfectly battered and served with that lovely fresh garlic mayo! — Delish! This was a new unique way for me to eat brussels sprouts… I don’t see how anyone could hate sprouts after this dish! Grilled Octopus in chili specked olive oil with roasted garlic with sides of herbed crostini. — DELISH! Only a few of the smaller pieces were truly tender, where the larger tentacles were a little chewy, but overall a nice dish! Braised Lamb NECK bone with olive tapenade /arugula? over polenta. Ahhh… meat heaven for me… it looked monstrous, but once you dived in… oh… the meatiness and light hint of lovely lamb flavors… and loved the nice pieces of tendons… served with that creamy, creamy polenta! … mmm… I salivate thinking about wanting to try this again. Stuffed Rabbit, rabbit loin, rabbit rack of «itty — bitty» ribs,(and if the have it) accompanied with rabbit heart and liver! OH, MY! I’ve never eaten«Thumper» this way before … it was definitely decadent carnivorism experience of this tasty«wabbit!» All was delicious with the pureed«orange?» sauce, but my favorite on this dish was actually the grilled one bite ribs of the rabbit… I definitely want to try them again… and they have a happy hour from 5 –7…and with that, I definitely want to try and get a sampling of the chef’s other faire! Yea! JUNE! I’m a FAN!

I had a great brunch at June! I ordered the vegetable hash which was probably one of the best brunch dishes I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was full of mushrooms which I love, and it was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. After sampling it, my boyfriend asked what kind of mushrooms they used because they were so delicious(I don’t know). The mound of mushrooms and potatoes(but mostly mushrooms) was served with two poached eggs and a quivering mound of hollandaise sauce. I’m not used to hollandaise in semi-solid form, but this one was decent, though a tad on the heavy side. My boyfriend’s short rib burger was less winning. The ribs were tender, but the meat lacked flavor. He had to use a lot of mustard to compensate for the blandness. On the plus side, the fries served with the burger were fresh and crispy, and were excellent with their house carrot ketchup(though I would’ve preferred regular ketchup). We ended our meal with the chocolate donuts served with pecan caramel. I loved them because they were freshly fried and served piping hot — so hot that I burned my tongue eating it. They melted away in my mouth. I can’t say that they were extremely chocolately and the caramel wasn’t strong enough, but I love love love freshly fried donuts and these were the freshest that I’ve ever had. Service was great. However, prices were a bit on the high side, despite coming armed with a groupon. I would come again though!

I had a nearly flawless brunch experience here today. Now, I’m not normally a stickler for service — as long as they don’t spill things on me or set me on fire, I couldn’t really care less — but the service at June was impeccable. I generally ignore the service and focus on the food, because that’s what I’m going out for, aren’t I? but today the service was definitely the highlight of the experience. Called ahead, found out that there wasn’t a need to make reservations, showed up an hour before they closed for dinner prep and were tucked away into a cozy booth in the back. The décor is lovely — it’s a little house with a bright front room and a homey back corner with booths; there’s an open kitchen. There were paintings clustered on the walls and light rock(Death Cab, Damien Rice) played softly. We were comfortable. We ordered coffee, steak & eggs and the duck hash. Unfortunately, right after we’d ordered, the server returned to let us know that they’d just run out of the duck confit, so I ordered the wonton noodle soup instead. The coffee was great(they use Lighthouse roasters) and they kept the refills coming as long as we wanted them, which was for the entirety of our time there.(One note: I wish they had sugar tongs for the sugar cubes that they served in a little bowl — I felt awkward digging among the white sugar cubes for the brown ones, and even more awkward thinking about everyone else’s fingers that had done the same.) The food arrived quickly, with little side dishes with condiments. I didn’t try the steak, but I had a bite of the potatoes that were served alongside(perfectly cooked and lightly flavored) and the pear jam(delicately spiced with something that might have been cardamom). My noodle soup was piping hot, with an abundance of noodles, crispy onions(and fresh ones on the side) and tasty wontons. However… it was salty. Excruciatingly salty. And I love salt. Love it. Sadly, this soup tasted like the chef had accidentally spilled a heaping spoonful of salt into the broth without noticing. I couldn’t finish the bowl. It was really unfortunate because the salt masked the flavor of the broth.(Another note: for a restaurant this refined, I wish they had nice reusable chopsticks, not the cheap tear-apart kind.) Throughout our meal, we were served by our server, the food runner and(presumably) the owner, who sat at a booth next to us for part of the time, and came and went among the tables and the kitchen, pouring coffee and water when needed. Although being served by three different people could have been confusing and distracting, it wasn’t — everyone flowed together smoothly, coming at just the right times. Yes, the service was slow — but it was leisurely-Sunday-brunch slow, where you can tell that the staff wants you to take your time and enjoy your meal. We didn’t wait long for anything, be it a coffee refill or the check. And even though they closed at two and we left ten minutes after the hour, they reassured us that we could stay and take our time — and I could tell that they meant it. I would definitely be back, because I realize that I absolutely must try the duck hash. Aside from the woefully-salty soup, it was a perfect Sunday brunch.

June does not serve child friendly brunch menu so come and relax and enjoy having a conversation without attempting to yell. I had eggs any style, bacon steak and potatoes. My partner had duck hash, poached egg and hollandaise. Perfection in taste. Absolute. Eggs were made just right, bacon steak was a big piece of bacon, deep fried(but one could never say the way it looked) and potatoes were seasoned with love and attention. The duck hash was a combo of perfectly cooked duck in their own fat, onions, and potatoes. The poached egg on top was doused in a homemade Hollandaise that makes everything taste like butter. Obviously, the cook has passion for great food. And Bloody Mary is a must have. An art in a glass again with a perfect balance of the ingredients. For desert, my partner had a beignet in caramel sauce and sprinkled with pecans, as I turned to talk to the waitress and back, the plate was being licked. It must have been good. Service was ultra slow. Perfect for a nice relaxing Sunday. If restaurant served children it would be unbearable, but be it as it may, I was not as bothered with it at all. Pricey, but worth every cent.

Quit your complaining, we had amazing service, the experience was great, the food was very understatedly good. Not pretentious wiz bang oh look what we can do good, but holy crap that is simple and awesome. Yeah they have lamb neck it’s pretty tasty. The pasta is amazing, crap, everything was very good. I seriously don’t get the complains, stop your nit-picky snarky bull, it’s not funny. Yeah they do charge for bread, but woop de do, it’s not the end of the world folks. Oh, wine costs money btw. Make a reservation, they make is so damn easy on there website, we got there early and they seated us before our reservation. I am thinking that these lame a-hole that complain didn’t have a reservation, wait then, you will everwhere else. I am surely going back to love and cherish this place.

What an unassuming delicious cute little place June is! It looks like they haven’t updated the menu on the website. If you see an octopus appetizer when you go, you *MUST* order it. The octopus was super tender, favourful and completely soaked in roasted garlic and olive oil. I wish they’d serve that in a huge bowl as an entrée. It was so simple yet extremely tasty. My boyfriend and I also ordered pappardelle with foraged mushrooms and yolk and suckling pig and sweet potato gnocchi. The pappardelle was chewy and rich thanks to an egg yolk. I would have loved to see more mushrooms in the sauce. I am not a huge fan of suckling pig(or pork in general), but I loved how sweet and chewy the gnocchi was. The dish came with some nicely cooked and halved Brussels sprouts. My boyfriend wouldn’t eat Brussels sprouts, and he actually enjoyed them! June is a pretty small place, and it could get busy pretty quickly. We were seated close to the entrance, so it was a bit cold. Nonetheless, the service was fantastic, and I can’t wait to go back!

We came here on a Friday evening and were able to get seated without a wait. The restaurant is actually bigger than it seems from the outside, with a bank of tables hidden from street view. As we were seated, we were amused when a man came up to the restaurant and attempted to open the door possessing a fake ornamental old-fashioned doorknob. Of course, the knob didn’t work, and he stood there until a couple exited the restaurant, and then he entered. All our dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Service was good. I especially liked their attention to detail, making sure we had the proper eating utensils for each course. I started out with the carrot soup with a coriander topping. The creamy topping was especially tasty. Hard to believe that coriander seeds come from the same plant as cilantro. JP began with the squash tempura. Also excellent. For drinks, I opted for the Crater Lake Root Beer(made with cane sugar and bottled in Portland) and JP downed several glasses of(GL Lauriberts Rhone) red wine at $ 8 per pour. Loved the root beer! For entrees, JP got the stuffed rabbit leg and I ordered the steak bavette. The rabbit leg had a very interesting presentation, with different parts of the rabbit, including its ribs and the liver, arranged on the plate. The plate also came with spinach over a cream sauce. That cream sauce was fabulous! The rabbit was excellent as well, extremely tender. The flavor of the rabbit might remind some diners of turkey. I’m not a big liver fan, but the rabbit liver was not bad at all. My steak bavette was served very very rare. It tasted good, but I especially liked the mushrooms that came with the dish. We wrapped up our meal by splitting a bread pudding for dessert. It was perfect, with a great fusion of flavors, including chocolate. Lastly, the interior design and décor was extremely pleasing — very modern.

My Seattle Restaurant Week Debut… And my very first venture out to this neighborhood, even though I live 5 minutes away on First Hill. I don’t even know what neighborhood this is. It’s quaint, with cute little shops. Anwyay, I’m just gonna get right to the food: There were 3 of us, we all ordered different things and shared semi-family style. Most of the items were simply average. The Geoduck salad was definitely a highlight. None of the main entrées was anything to write home(or Unilocal) about. The Honey-cured Pork Loin Chop was the best of the 3 we tried. It was definitely the best portion! And the bed of mashed potatoes the pig meat laid on was a delicious surprise. It went really well with each bite of the sweet pork chop. Pappardelle(think Italian Chow Fun: wide noodle) with Beef Tongue Sugo was passable. My friend commented that the sauce tasted like it came from a can. Pretty bland. She had to ask for some hot sauce to give it more flavor. As it always does unfailingly, Sriracha came to the rescue. And depending on your preference for beef tounge taste, this was on the mellow, smooth side. But I like mine strong-flavored and gamy. Salmon with Carrot Jus was a weak contender. Now let’s talk about the desserts: The first looked like a flan… then I took a spoonful of it. Good LORD! What is this Chevre Crème Caramel!?? I knew I liked Chevre, and I suppose I could hang with Crème and Caramel. But the 3 together is like the best ménage-a-trois you can ever imagine(involving goats, sugar and milk). It does things to your tongue. The texture was soft enough to melt in your mouth(as it melts your face at the same time), but still had that grittiness and body of chevre. The caramel had an exceptionally strong burnt smoky taste which might turn off some people, but for me this was the winning component in the formula. I’ll be coming back for this! Especially since I have a free dessert coupon they gave me for making a reservation. The other 2 desserts were above average as well: Chocolate Pots de Crème and Bread Pudding — but after tasting that Chevre Caramel, my mind was already blown. 1FULL star just for this heavenly morsel. Also tried the Gin cocktail with Luxardo and Orange bitters, which was yummy. Dry, spicy and really highlighted the floral notes. Décor was alright, but I do like the yellow entrance door.

Honest ingredients, thoughtful preparation. Tucked away in the neighborhood that Seattle has forgotten, Madrona, June is the new«little restaurant that could.» Owned by the Chef/Owner of Queen Anne Portage, June’s food menu is a fusion of Asian, French, and American. Taking over the same location of the dearly departed Cremant(**tear**)… June takes over where Cremant left of. The menu is quite the adventure of tastes and pleasures. Happy Hour. Um… get here quick before these prices end, because frankly my dear June, you are being taken advantage of. I had the $ 5…yeah you heard me FIVEDOLLAR beef tongue sandwich. Now before you run off, let me tell you. Don’t be afraid. If you over think the name, you will be missing out on one of Seattle’s best dishes. Think about your first experience with pork belly, because beef tongue is now that far off. Beef Tongue is rich, melty, tender, smoky… almost like a indulgent hanger or skirt steak, only better. Other notable bites: seared albacore. Fresh sashimi style, barely kissed by the flame of the fire, served over a bed of cucumber and green beans with a slightly sweet, slightly tangy blackberry-chili sauce. My goodness! Fun preparation that incorporates the great summer bounty found in the Pacific Northwest. June is taking advantage of the recession and utilizing lesser-known, inexpensive cuts of meat which allows to offer their main dishes at cheap-cheap prices, so you don’t feel like you are having a grand night out. Lamb neck over pasta which looked out of this world delicious, geoduck, and rabbit. As well as more familiar plates including salmon, halibut, beef burger, chicken… etc etc. Prices for main entrée’s range from $ 17-$ 22. The ambiance is a little stale, kind of industrial, not very«homey». Very raw concrete floors and walls as if they decorated the restaurant first and forgot to finish the rest of the building. The décor is enriched by a fun shabby chic décor, the back is a very intimate setting with comfortable booths. Make reservations because there is limited seating. Great service, not too in your face. Not overly stuffy, feels like you are coming into an old friend’s house… an old friend who happens to be a dynamite chef.

The neighborhood gods are smiling upon us right now for allowing such an establishment to make its way to Madrona! I should sacrifice some kinda animal on the altar of their tasty mercy. Hmm, what should it be? Something with lotsa organs you can eat. We returned to june after a very successful brunch here a week or two ago and were blown away by a blast of SOMUCHFOODAWESOMEINOURMOUTHS. Also, I will admit to a man crush on our waiter, Justin, for his excellent service and for his obsession with Fernet, an herby liquor. Fernet is the DESTROYEROFPALATES and WRECKEROFMEN and also quite tasty, if, as I do, you enjoy your alcohol tasting like snake oil from the old west. I like it! Oh, and Justin had fancy pants and shoes, which was cool and he took our inquiry into his pants with grace and poise. So, enough with the school girl blathering, on to the food! Set the stage: Bacon and egg(salmon roe) stuffed morels, tempura battered and fried. SHUTYOURFACE, this was really good! The salmon roe added a wonderful, brine-y saltiness, while bacon added, well, bacon. These were like super upscale jalapeño poppers. Start ‘er off: Oysters on the half shell. Like butter. But literally, like butter of the sea. Justin, our waiter, explained that these oysters were very special and buttery, without much saltiness/brine. He was right, it was like God had cultured these bad boys in Butter Cove off the coast of Butterton. Beets w/Parmesan, hazelnuts and stuff. A crisp salad and counterpoint to the fried morels. Goooood. Main course: Steak bevette over beef tongue and bean fricassee. Mmm, beef on tongue action is unexpectedly good. The steak was very flavorful(cut from the skirt) and the bean-tongue was rich, beefy, and smokey. Rabbit. THEYDISEMBOWELEDTHUMPERANDMADEHIMSUPERTASTY. We ate the whole freaking rabbit, innards and all. My wife got this course and it was like my whole philosophy of eating smashed into one dish… then artfully arranged. Parts included: liver, kidney, loin, legs, rack of ribs. The best part were the little frenched bunny ribs. So cute AND tasty. Check out the pics. To the end: I overheard someone(owner?) talking to another patron about their housemade ketchup, so for my desert, I ordered the ketchup and jojo fries. The ketchup was BEETS. No tomatoes, just beets!!! SOGOOD. Apparently, they adjust the ketchup by season and have previously served strawberry ketchup. STRAWBERRYKETCHUP. Lastly, the cocktail menu was creative, unpretentious, and varied. Also, Justin(in his passionate exposition of Fernet) mixed up my order and comped me the free extra drink. Very cool since I was itching to try both anyway. Go. Now. Nobody had to wait for tables and service was excellent.

Yum! ok bumped up to a full five stars now that I’ve had a chance to try dinner. You gotta love a place that not only makes its own ketchup, but makes a different kind of ketchup depending on what is in season. SEASONALKETCHUP! AWESOME!!! Right now they have beet ketchup. Apparently previously they had strawberry ketchup. They will have fresh tomato ketchup(when tomatoes ripen and are in season). And if you think beet or strawberry ketchup sounds weird, I think you need to try this anyway. It’s tasty stuff! It’s served with jojo potatoes with the burger(but since neither of us ordered the burger, we got a side of jojos just to try the ketchup). Honestly, it was such a lovely evening(so unexpectedly wonderful for a Monday night). We started with fried morels stuffed with salmon egg and bacon, these were incredibly rich bites of flavor. Highly recommend these :) For dinner I had the stuffed rabbit leg. A bit of a misnomer in that you get way more than a stuffed rabbit leg. You also get rabbit loin, rabbit ribs, and kidney and liver — all with a tasty jus and asparagus purée. It’s a little like nose to tail eating! Great! Plus, it was kinda cool how each piece of the rabbit tasted different. A very tasty and different dish. I did snag a nibble of the hubby’s side of beef tongue fricasse(this was so flavorful! I could eat this as a whole dish I think). If I ate beef on a normal basis, I would totally order hubby’s dish(the steak bavette) just to get this accoutrement. We finished off the evening with some housemade chocolate and banana ice cream. I loved that it had a fun surprise of embedded chocolate sprinkles! If you’re on a date night and you want to get cozy, you might request a booth toward the back of the restaurant(past the bar). There is a small section with a bunch of two-person booths that looks super intimate. Otherwise, I really like the open atmosphere of the tables in the main part of the restaurant. And let me say that it was really great to see Madrona residents up in here this evening. Yay for neighborhood restaurants!
