Fish quality very good. Fries very good. They have their own packaged mayo. I’m not a huge fan of the fish breading texture, but it was still good.

On a rainy cool Seattle day, what else to search for visiting this city but some warm clam chowder and a nice water view. We scored on both when we dined at Ivar’s on the pier. The clams are a must! I had the fried clam and shrimp basket(I think I made this a thing on the menu, and the waiter was very accommodating), the crab cakes(oh my!!!), and of course the clam chowders. We watched an Otter play on the dock and seagulls from our table. After dinner we walked along the pier even in the cook misty air, it was a lovely evening. I left off one star, simply because of the pricing. It seems a city at port would not have to charge as much for seafood, but that is my humble opinion.

Now that the remodel job has been done they switched to cheap bread. No more nice french sourdough rolls. The new bread I did not even eat. Bad news. Many other places to eat now in Seattle have the same type of dull rye/white bread, probably from the same bakery.

Ivars has long been the go to spot for some boss fish ‘n chips! The same still holds today. Definitely a more touristy type spot, but they really never fail at the F/C game! The salmon and chips are great, the halibut and chips delish, and the clam and chips a delight. All come atop a golden pillow top of fries which are best sampled and then fed the myriad of seagulls outside along the waterfront. After the fried goodness, there is little better than tossing fries and vittles to the seagulls — it’ll make you feel like a rockstar as they have a very high opinion of you if you come bearing the carbs! The place commands a bit of a premium, to the tune of $ 10 – 13 per meal, but for the quality, it’s worth it!

The clam chowder was awesome. I reccomend the smoked salmon or the seafood chowder, both were incredibly fresh and full of flavor.

Really enjoyed grabbing a bite before taking a ferry. Very affordable. Loved the salmon chowder bread bowl; delicious chowder and nice soft sour dough bread bowl. We enjoyed eating so close to the water. There are options for either enclosed seating if you want to avoid the sea gulls, or open/uncovered seating if you want to feed them. The cashiers were so kind; one of them saw my hands were very full with my 8-month-old baby and stroller and food and came right out to help me to my seat. There are not any gluten-free dairy-free entrees(all fish is breaded).

Tried the Alaskan Cod meal which comes with three pieces of fish, your choice of chowder(red, salmon, or white), fries, and a drink. I went with the classic white chowder which did not disappoint! The fish and fries were fried to what I thought had the perfect crunch, and the fries taste even better dipped in the chowder. Yum! Nice hot meal on a cold and windy day!

4 stars is true to this place. It’s a great spot to grab a quick fish and chips or clam chowder. It’s good but not the best. It’s seems like it’s a tradition here and all the locals point it out. Fish is mediocre. The fries were really good though. Portion. Was a pretty good size. Try this place once maybe for the tradition. But I’ve had better fish in chips before.

We ate here on a weekend for lunch. They had a special for fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder and a drink. I think it was $ 13, totally worth it. Everything we ate was hot and fresh, it came out fast, and was seasoned well. We got a little shrimp cocktail too, it had cocktail sauce and celery at the bottom. We loved feeding our leftover French fries to the seagulls. Overall, we really liked Ivars, we would come back!

Decent spot to pick up a quick bite. Had the 3-piece cod which came out pretty quick. The breaded fish and fries were both well fried and overall I was satisfied. Ivar’s has been frying fish for a long time and as an established neighborhood favorite, they’ve been doing it well. Not the best fish and chips I’ve had by any means, but they hit the spot.

We ordered the following: Chowder taster(3 chowders) Cesar salad Fish and chips Husband can’t wait to return to get the Salmon! There’s a smoked salmon chowder that tastes absolutely Devine! Salad was good… Loved the croutons The seafood chowder was delish! I wished I had a 2nd stomach and I would have ordered another bowl of it! The fried cod was great, a light breading and not too greasy or thick… And the fries were just right, my son loved them and ate quite a few… We will be back for salmon and crab legs and of course the chowders!!! It was a perfect cold afternoon meal!!! Now the service! ABOVEANDBEYOND friendly, we talked to like 5 different servers, I think a manager and bar tender? Ali(I think manager) came and talked to us for a bit, and then returned with a gift card and her business card! Super sweet girl! Someone I could see being friends with!!! Another guy came out with extra bread when he saw my son and I feeding the sea gulls and was so cool! He was trying to get the birds to come close so my son could see!!! All around had the best time here! Bring the family! Stay for a while and feed the birds and talk to your servers! They are people too and have great stories to tell!!! We will probably make this our spot!!!

Gave me serious food poisoning! I was looking forward to fresh fish at this nice location right at the pier. A few hours after my visit I started to feel the impact of bad food poisoning. My wife and I shared the same meals except for Ivars, fish also tasted kind of funny, still trying to recover. Avoid this place if you like to enjoy your vacation!

Lots of fish, fried fish, chowder. It’s good hearty food(avoid if on a diet.). It’s been here forever. My favorite way to enjoy it is to go to the take away window and eat either on a pier or on the ferry. Restaurants don’t last this long if the food is bad. Here the food is actually good especially for such a tourist area.

This is a touristy part of town but Ivar’s is an established Seattle eatery serving workers, drunks, those with munchies, and tourists alike. It’s not the healthiest food out there, but if you’re going to eat deep fried fish, at least it should be fresh and tasty and theirs is very good. At the moment, the construction in the area is ruining the ambiance, but you still have the seagulls eye balling you as you eat so you either like it or hate it. I liked it actually.

Came with a group of 8 and we sat in the bar area and ordered from the happy hour menu. Getting seated was super fast and easy. Walked right in and there was a table for 8 waiting for us. The view is amazing! Sitting over the water and watching the boats cruise by made me feel good and relaxed. I ordered a cup of chowder and it was soooooooooo good! I wanted more, but I had also ordered the fish and chips which were super tasty. You can tell that the fish they use was fresh and juicy – very flavorful. For drinks, I stuck with my vodka sodas extra lime and didn’t try anything else. We always had water at the table, which is really important to me. The service was really good. Our waiter worked there for 5 years and was very fast and friendly. Everyone ordered the same exact thing I did, and they loved it just as much as I did. Looks like they are under construction from the outside, but you can’t tell once your inside. I would defiantly go back and this time order the chowder bowl!

You can’t go to the Pacific Northwest and not get fish and chips! We stopped here after hopping off the ferry from Bainbridge. I was told it was good but a toursit spot. Either way, they had good food. They have a variety of fish you can choose from for your fish and chips. I got slamon – which was pretty tasty. I also got clam chowder – also tasty. I’d go back, but I wouldn’t be opposed to finding other fish and chips places either.

Deep fried foods and Ivar’s clam Chowder! What else could beat the Seattle experience! Service was quick and painless and super affordable. They even hired seagulls to hop around the Ivar’s sign. JK! Soup came out hot and tasty! Ivar’s beats out New England calm chowder by many many miles! Drop by for a quick bite to eat and get going on your day!

Ivar’s chowder is wonderful! We stopped by for a quick cup to eat and it was absolutely delicious. My fiancé has been to Seattle more times than I and has gone on and on about how awesome Ivar’s is and I will admit, I was a bit curious and skeptical about it because it’s just chowder. How good could something named chowder be? Pretty damn good! They have a covered area to sit in along with tables near the water. We were at the tables near the water and it was horrible since there were some scraggly looking birds there wanting our food along with unruly kids feeding said scraggly birds. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was a little cooler – nothing like hot soup on a cold day!

The ambiance is horrendous between the construction and the squawking seagulls, but the seafood is fresh and tasted pretty good — however I’d only highly recommend the chowder.

I love the waterfront views of this place and the seasonal cucumber beer that I had was mighty refreshing after a sunny day with the kids downtown. Even the food that was served from the kids menu was delish! The décor is nice, the wait staff is attentive and the facilities are cleanly. The experience wasn’t anything special, so I will need to come back again to get more of a solid feel about whether I’m a fan or not. Overall, it was good however it can be pricey if you are feeding a family.
