:) Foundation Athletics is a facility that runs CrossFit SLU and Guardian Krav Maga. Super awesome, fun, legit combo if you ask me. Great team of folks who run it and really awesome community!

I’ve been friends with the co-owner Andrew for quite a while and I watched from afar while he opened up the Capitol Hill location and was really stoked to hear he opened up another location in South Lake Union because of the wait list at CapHill. I just finished my On-Ramp month at the new box and it was probably the best decision I’ve ever made for my own health. The fact that I have been sedentary for the past seven or so years didn’t matter as I was introduced to the fundamentals of CrossFit and learned about the adaptability and scalability of all the workouts that we learned. Andrew has assembled an awesome group of trainers around him that all take the time to make sure we learn the skills needed to succeed in the gym and complete the workouts without injuring ourselves. The fear of being a noob and slowing the classes down went away when I realized that we were all noobs in the class and the whole point of it was to get us acclimated to the atmosphere. Within the first week of my On-Ramp class, my attitude walking through the door went from«I am gonna die» to «this won’t suck THAT much.» Nothing will be easy when you get in there to learn, and that’s the way it should be. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be a «work“out. I checked my ego in at the door and I’ve been having so much fun working out here. If you can get into the Foundations/On-Ramp program when it’s available, DOIT. It might be priced higher than the On-Ramp programs at other gyms, but I don’t think the trainers at other gyms would go so far in-depth to the methodologies of CrossFit like the team here at Foundation Athletics. This is definitely a case of «you get what you pay for.» I live within a five-minute walk of another CrossFit affiliate up north in Kenmore, but I choose to drive down south to the City because of the atmosphere, the knowledgeable staff, and the camaraderie of the other athletes. Worth the drive every time.

Foundation Athletics is the BEST gym I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Here is why: It’s fun, it’s adaptable to your ability; yet challenging, it’s ever changing and ITWORKS. From day one you’re coached to develop good habits, perfect your form and work as a group. You’ll see folks walking around wearing shirts that say, «It hurts so good.» and they’re not lying. It quickly becomes addicting to show up for class because you know you’re going to be putting in work. You’ll be sore each time, but you’ll never regret the hard work you’re doing. If you’re looking for a routine that doesn’t get boring, yields results for a fitter, stronger you, then sign up for their Ramping Up program. You’ll meet new people, each of them at a different skill level and from all sorts of walks of life. Each of you will go through the program and continue to build skill, muscle, confidence, do I really need to go on to convince you? If that doesn’t work, do yourself and watch these videos from the gym and it’s sister gym Foundation Crossfit on Capitol Hill(a gym that is so popular there is a 2 – 5 month waiting list to join it!) Start here: Don’t be intimidated by that if you think you’ll never be able to do anything they just did… it takes time and dedication. Next: This is the actual space and those are the actual Crossfit Instructors. 10k square feet, tons of fun and several experienced teachers. Do yourself a favor, email them and sign up for the orientation. You’re welcome.(See ya in class!)
