I have met Michael Fairley at postcard/photo/ephemera shows and his offerings are nothing short of stupendous, as is his knowledge of and enthusiasm for history and the historical artifacts he offers.

Wonderful collection of paper ephemera. After I told the owner of my primary interest, he steered me to the appropriate bins, piles, and binders quickly. Lots of material, some of it extremely rare, much of it fascinating. Take your time and you won’t be sorry.

Like the other reviewer said, they don’t have your usual antiques — it’s more postcards, stereoviews, that kind of thing. If that’s the kind of thing you’re looking for there’s lots of interesting stuff down there. I think I could have spent a couple days and still not seen everything.

This is a very good place for antique paper goods like photos, posters, calendars and postcards. You’re not going to find a lot of antique furniture or jewelry here, but if you’re looking for a picture of a guy from the 50’s in a skimpy bathing suit holding his cat or of a photo of an old casket, this is your place. Plenty of frowny Victorian portraits too(I love those!) I agree with everybody that the back room with the nude male photos all over the walls is kind of odd, so steer clear of that if its not what you’re looking for.

We enjoy this antique shop. It’s tucked down some dark stairs in Pioneer Square and a fun place to explore. It’s always packed with quality vintage photographs and ephemera. A fun place to dig around. On our last vist we wandered around the shop looking around but we must admit it kind of wierded us out when the owner followed us into the back section that had mostly naked male photo’s and posters. Whoa nellie. down boy.

Fairlook is not necessarily worth a look, unless your into the ‘Bear Sub-culture.’ I guess that’s an overtatement. they have some great antique photos and old war posters as well. The store is a bit cluttered, but if you have the time and the interest you might just find something special. Cheers!
