Cork House Winery

This sweet little spot is packed with tons of unique personality and more important full of great wine !!!
This is the place to come and have a great private event, as I understand they don’t have open hours to the public.
I’m a fan of the décor, really rustic, clean and with a touch of hip style, you’ll find charming little details trough the place, from wine barrels hanging from the ceiling to recycled doors and military chests for a bar :)
The offer wine, beer and o’devours, one of my favorite wines was the Corkhouse, a really good mix of grapes, giving a smooth yet bodied wine !!!
I’ll leave it up to you and find your fave, from The Warrior, Corkhouse, Cork for a Cause, oh which reminds me this a really cool deal they have, they will actually donate $$ per bottle, to the cause you’re doing it’s a win win situation here :)
Keep an eye to see if they are open for tastings as they do them sometimes over the weekend.

Love this place. Love the atmosphere, love the set-​up. Wines are pretty good, but the mood does it for me. This was on a weekday night though, so who knows if it gets redic on Friday/​Saturday night.
Don’t change a thing guys.

Great location, nice interior, a smidgen of elitist wine attitude over a friendly demeanor. Local wines & information. Cute little bowls of grapes.
I’m allergic to sulfites, and advised them of this. I was there for the experience & the behest of the person I was accompanying.
He advised me the white had no sulfites, and got me a taste of the O’Shea Scarborough. I liked it so much I then got a glass. My friend and another party got toasted and the lions share of the chatty attention. Unsure why. I looked around at the barrels, lighting and stainless surfaces while occasionally attempting to interject.
Suddenly, 2 sips in, I felt the breathing compression and flush of hives… I grabbed the bottle for a read. Yup. Sulfite-​o-​rama.
When I advised him, he let me go retrieve a free bottled water from his fridge and seemed genuinely concerned. He offered me beer or vodka to bring me down from my anaphalactic startup. Very kind.
I love the idea of the «Cork for a Cause», with $ 3 a bottle going toward a different non-​profit every month. Hope that is a success for them. I can envision this location for a small party along the big social center table, and live acoustic artists would be stellar.
I will suggest this to my winey acquaintances and or go back for a beer.

What an adorable space! I had noticed this spot a couple months ago and had been waiting with much anticipation for their grand opening. A good friend of mind shot me a text to remind me that they’re open now and I popped in that same night for a bottle of wine with some friends.
The interior is clean and cute and reminds of being in a wine cellar. It’s a little dark, there are barrels everywhere, the floors are concrete and the main focus isn’t the furniture or the décor — it’s the WINE!
The variety of wines available was great and my friends and I selected a nice red to sit down with and sip on while we listened to a live performer. I’d love to spend more time here on my next visit — such a great addition to the neighborhood.

An oh-​so-​lovely addition to the wineland of Capitol Hill…
What better way to spend a ladies’ night with a fellow dark, serious adventurer than to taste some equally robust, complex, and dark red wines? Having passed by Cork House multiple times, wondering when I might be able to discover exactly what was inside, I was thrilled to head in tonight and find a tasting bar covered with about ten bottles of wine. Complete with lengthy tasting notes, and two possible sets of tastings (the Cork House house wines, or the O’Shea/Scarborough wines, or both), not to mention wonderfully friendly folks on both sides of the counter, I was in HEAVEN.
We opted for the house tasting ($ 5, refunded with a bottle purchase) of five Cork House wines. And… lovely. These are a variety of Bordeaux blends from various Washington AVAs, most about three or four years old. I took home the Cork House 2006, primarily Merlot but with a heavy and enticing dose of Petit Verdot, one of my favorite varietals. Not that it was an easy choice, and I can’t wait to go back and try the ten or so O’Shea/Scarborough labels.
The space itself is made for sipping at the bar, table or counter. Only their wines are on offer, but you can taste or buy by the glass or bottle. No food currently, but I overheard a mention of «it’s okay to order and bring in something from outside» although I didn’t notice anyone eating anything in there. But with so many restaurants right outside, and with their hours running in the evening Thursday-​Saturday, you should have no problem making this a pre– or post-​dinner stop. Linger, sip, discuss, and enjoy… I will!

Popped in to check out the newest addition to my neighborhood last night: our very one winery! My friend and I decided to split a tasting since we had already had some wine with dinner and wanted to get a good idea about what this winery was offering.
Travis Scarborough of O’Shea Scarborough Winery poured our samples himself and told us a bit about the wines. The first pour was a Riesling which neither of us liked but we don’t have a palate for rieslings anyway. I believe that the second pour was a chardonnay. Again not a fan of chards but Cork House’s chardonnay does not taste like a typical chard, so I was actually liked it. Moved on to a few reds… really enjoyed the Main Event and their 100% cab The Rebel (apparently which Walla Walla winery they source the grapes from for this delicious cab is top secret but based on the complexity and taste it’s definitely one of the heavy hitters of WW wines).
The space is simple with the tasting/​ordering bar situated to the right when you walk in and a long communal table in the middle of the floor, while the perimeter has a built in counter type area with some chairs. People were ordering wines by the glass or just purchasing a bottle and sitting down and hanging out with friends. They had live music for the evening which was a great touch.
Travis is very knowledgeable about his wines and Cork House is a great addition to the Hill. Currently they are open Thurs-​Saturday and are also available for private events. Head over and get your wine on!
