Deeply sad to report that Cinema Books is closing and they are in the midst of a 50% off everything closeout sale. The store itself is a hidden gem in the retail jungle of Seattle and the store’s inventory contains many a hidden gem itself. Stephanie Ogle, the proprietor, has the lethal combination of an incredibly gracious customer service instinct paired with a deep and wide knowledge of film. You must talk to her for some recommendations. Otherwise, there is such a quantity of books here that you are definitely going to miss something cool. Having a retail experience curated by an informed and good humored person is seemingly rare bordering on imaginary these days with scale economized chain stores. So go, before it’s too late. Buy some movie books from Stephanie and help Cinema Books ride off into the sunset on a high note!

This place is a gem, and Seattle is lucky to have it, because these kind of wonderful bookstores have vanished in most cities. This store opened in 1977, and — miraculously, in the era of Amazon — is still here. The owner is lovely and a font of knowledge. I would urge anyone with an interest in film to check out this fantastic bookstore.

Are you a film lover in Seattle? You owe to yourself to stop in and check out this bookstore. It’s a great little place to spend some time. They don’t do internet orders but you can email them with any questions about stock. They can also order titles for you and are rather helpful. Take care though, it’s not hard to end up with an armful of titles that you never knew existed.

I love this place. It is just packed of books about movies. She has ton of things to buy that I thought you could only get online till now. I usually buy a calendar there every year too, because she is the only person I know that sells it except the internet. The lady is so nice and she deserves to get more business then she does.

I took a film class once. Inevitably, during a lecture I got bored and wondered what the inside of the professor’s house looked like. In between discussions about framing and jump cuts I imagined his bed was a coffin used in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and some rooms of his place were painted like a Wong Kar Wai set. I was also pretty sure he had some ridiculous reading room chock full of film criticism books, namely the ones where he xeroxed all the damn articles we had to read. This store looks exactly like what I imagined that room looked like. There are just wall to wall books on film. The arrangement is a little dicey(it looks like everything was just stuffed in wherever there was room) but the content can’t be beat. Every genre and national cinema is represented in the stacks of this bookstore. I say«stacks» because it almost feels like some specialized library you should’ve had available to you in school. Additionally, the woman who works there is sapient about the material and proffered other Fassbinder books in addition to the one I was buying. The one knock: you’re going to pay full cover price. Yeah, in this day and age of used books, hand-me-downs, trade-ins and the internet, it’s hard to believe that the book you’re about to buy is about $ 30 but heck with this much selection…

Ah! A store that either has it, can get it, or can tell me why I can’t find it! This store is little, but packed with books, photos, plays and everythings else that has to do with the movies. Ah, movies! The great American art form! Stephanie the owner knows everything about movies and can locate anything in stock among her stacks of cool stuff. Try her, I dare ya! The store has both new and vintage items, and if she doesn’t have it, she can be on the look out for it for you.
