Caldwell’s stands apart not only for its well-​curated selection of merchandise, but also as one of the oldest businesses in the U Village and one of the last independent businesses as well. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful, and works hard to make sure that whatever special something I am looking for is found. It’s a great place to wander and see beautiful hand-​made objects from around the world. I aways seem to learn something new here! Definitely worth the visit. It’s refreshing to be in a store that is truly one-​of-​a-​kind in a sea of reproduced luxury items you could get in any of the 50 States.

Caldwells is always my first stop for clothing and gifts. I know I can always find that unique piece of clothing, accessory or thoughtful gift that sets me apart in a retail sea of sameness found at other stores. The staff is very knowledgable, friendly and eager to help. In the past they have even taken a special order for me when the piece I wanted isn’t in stock or let me take things on approval to make sure it’s just right. I love Caldwells.

I don’t know if this review is really fair, but my mom loves this place. Every time she visits us in Seattle we take a trip to U Village and she ends up buying some new purse/​bag from this shop.
It’s got a good selection of Asian-​inspired bric-​à-​brac, which isn’t to my taste but does appear nicely made. There are cards and some small gift items in the front and then a bunch of clothing — all of which is aimed at the middle-​aged woman demographic — far removed from me but probably underserved in general.
They seem to be staying in business just fine, which in today’s economic climate is no small feat. So A-​OK it is.

I have only had good experiences at this store over the years. They carry other shops don’t, or at least not for months to years later. I always ask about the return policy at small stores because they are usually much more strict than chains as their volume and profit margn are so much smaller. This store has great clothes, handbags, jewelry and home gift items. It isn’t inexpensive, but the quality of all the things I’ve bought there over the yeas (pants, blouses, jacket, jewelry, purse, silk flowers) has been excellent, and people frequently comment on them because they are both striking and unique.
