I was here for the Bemis Spring 2013 Art show — and I found myself traversing a building with a great character. The wooden floors, while showing their age, have a sense of history and charisma with this building. The walls were white, perfect for controlling contrast of what is being displayed on the walls, with the over head lighting array. The walls were adorn with various painting, photographs, and even glass arts. I found rice paper paintings to be impressive, translucent paper, which I think would be great on floor-to-ceiling windows. What was more surprising is when I found open rooms — which lead into the residential units of the artists. Large lofts with view of Seattle, large windows, and some lofts have a secondary level for a bed. In these lofts where the artists’ themselves, it was good to meet them in person and speak about them with their art, and be inspired by them. Should I decide go full steam ahead and perform my career change into the creative arts, and I need a place to work, I will strongly consider working and displaying my art here.

What a FANTASTIC space! First off, this building is actually a residential live/work/create space for some of Seattle’s most creative artists. But more than just artist’s lofts, Bemis opens up a few times a year to host incredible art events for locals. With tall, long, wide, white walls, the building looks more like a museum than an apartment building! And inside each loft there’s someone making a living off of their crafts. Whether it’s painting, sculpting or photography, it’s so fun to come to the open house events, meet the artists, see their works and meet other creative people. In a dream world I’d be more creative and rent a unit here! Can’t wait for the next event!
