A Perfect Fit

Pauline is wonderful to talk to and does great work! I’ve brought a few pairs of pants here and everything came out just as promised.

Pauline is the fairy god mother. She does amazing work, is accommodating, and is very helpful! I would definitely recommend a perfect fit time and time again.

My boyfriend walked his sister down the aisle the other day and her one wish was that he wear his dress blues. The problem was that they didn’t exactly fit anymore. He sort of dropped the ball and waited a little long to get to a tailor and we were worried that we weren’t going to be able to get them done in time, but Pauline worked her magic and got them done in a rush! Not only did she save the day, but she did it with an infectiously good attitude and the sweetest smile. She is seriously one of the nicest people we have ever met (not to mention a great tailor!)

I trust Pauline completely with any tailoring needs I have. Pauline is very friendly to work with and a true professional. I took in a dress I had bought for my son’s wedding. It was way too big, but being a big girl I was thrilled to find it and thought surely Pauline could make it work. She honestly told me it would be very expensive because she was basically re-​making the dress to bring it in everywhere it needed to be altered. I appreciated and respected her honesty; ended up returning the dress and found the perfect dress with a little more shopping. She has hemmed pants for both me and my husband, altered a négligée for my honeymoon that was too big, and shortened sleeves on suit jackets while still retaining the details (i.e., the buttons on the cuffs). We’ve moved to Black Diamond, but I will drive into Seattle to have Pauline handle any alterations I may need.

Lovely experience. Pauline is nice, prompt and accommodating. Bonus: she knows who Ganesha is and loved my elephant silk pants as much as I do.

When it comes to service Pauline knows how to do it. She cares about the quality of her work and will give you an honest assessment about any item you bring to her for tailoring. If you want your clothes to look good this is the place to take them.

What a wonderful place! I needed three pants hemmed and I have now found the place I will always go back to. Great service and a great price for basic men’s tailoring. Pauline is such a wonderful person to do business with. The first time there I didn’t realize you needed an appointment, but I was lucky enough to catch her when she was free. Do yourself a favor and call ahead. Makes sense so you have your time with her and she can give you her full attention (which is the way it should be).

My mother recommended Pauline’s shop to me and I’m so glad she did. Two weeks ago I went in for my first fitting for my wedding dress. It needed minimal alterations which was nice. Pauline was so friendly and knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. I also asked if she could make a belt out of my wedding dress sash and hide the buttons.
Today I went in for my second fitting and everything was perfect! She had been worried about making the belt and the possibility of it not working with the fabric but even that turned out lovely. I thought the price was reasonable for a wedding dress and it was done in exactly two weeks. My dress was made of intricate lace patterns and she did fabulous on the upper bodice alterations. I would highly recommend Pauline.

Even though I got nothing tailored, this is as good as it gets for a tailor shop for me. I brought in a Tuxedo that is 10 years old and too big. Pauline was honest and told me nothing could be done to fix the problem (can’t alter shoulder width). I feel some places could lie and say: «oh, yes, we’ll do this and that it… getting it looking better, it will be an improvement» but Pauline realized it was hopeless said so honestly.

I can not begin to express how wonderful Pauline is! My wedding dress needed quite a bit hemmed as I am a little on the short side as well as a bustle. Her turn around time is exceptional. And she made me and my gown feel SOOO special. A lady wants nothing more than this kind of TLC and attention. Her work is made my dress even more beautiful and I can not wait to wear my dress. She gave advice and how-to’s that were very much appreciated as I am not one who wears gowns on a regular basis. I also look forward to taking some additional pieces in. If you need alterations — Pauline is the lady for you!!!

Alterations were just fine, but this place is exponentially more expensive than other places. If you have a wedding dress or another special occasion it may be worth it — if you need simple hemming or other day to day alterations, shop around first!

Oh, Pauline. She has practically saved my life. I called her TODAY around 10:30am, panicking, because I needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed by TOMORROW for an evening wedding and photos. For some reason, stores think that all plus size women are tall Amazonian women or something, as this dress was a good 5 inches dragging the ground on my 5’4″ frame. It was a dress that I had just received Tuesday in the mail than the one Bride-​to-​be and I were trying to order (which fell through at the last minute). Pauline got me in at NOON for a fitting, I had my toddler son with me whom she adorably entertained while I dressed, and we had a sparkling conversation. Did I mention I could listen to her melodious, happy Irish lilt all day? I felt like I’d known her for much longer than 20 minutes. What a complete sweetheart she is! She had the dress FINISHED and STEAMED by 5pm! Like I said. She has saved my life, and the dress looks FANTASTIC. Honestly, it is a better, more secure hem than what it arrived with. Just wonderful! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Pauline! You are a gem!
I have two tips for anyone needing a rush order: be prepared to pay cash or check, or dart across four lanes of traffic to an ATM. Be prepared to pay much more for SUPER quick results along with the expert work ($ 70 for my emergency). Her time is valuable!

My husband got his wedding suit altered by Polly for our wedding and she did a great job! She had the best recommendations on alterations and seemed to know just how much to alter the suit so it gave him a great fit. She also has a great sense of humor and it was a lot of fun talking to her.

I purchased my custom-​made vintage style wedding dress from a shop on Etsy, and it was nearly perfect! But nearly perfect meant it wasn’t quite «THE dress» yet as all they had to work on was my measurements — never got a fitting before it shipped. I’d only spent around $ 300 on the dress altogether, but knew with a bit of alteration work, it’d be just right.
So I visited Pauline, and was surprised to learn how much actually needed to be done to get it right. Upon the first fitting, she explained that the dress would basically need to be deconstructed and adjusted to fit the way I wanted it to (it was rather loose, and I wanted a tighter, more traditional fit up top). I was bit more surprised to hear the cost of the alteration (near $ 270), but learned from others that the work they did was pretty tough and was absolutely justifiable (resetting the zipper, shortened the bodice, working on the inner layer and the lace overlay, etc.)
So the final fitting came, and Pauline had turned this into THE dress I was always hoping it would be! It fit perfectly in all the right spots and was truly tailored to me — it was wonderful!
So all-​in-​all, my already inexpensive dress coupled with master alterations was still less than the average wedding dress. It wouldn’t be nearly as much for a dress that needs less drastic alterations made to it.
Above price, what mattered most to me was feeling comfortable with Pauline and trusting her work. She was an absolute joy to work with. It really felt like I was working with a long lost family member, she was just so sweet.
If your wedding dress needs some TLC to fit you exactly the way you want it, I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
IMPORTANT NOTE: as of 9÷5÷12, the shop is no longer doing normal everyday alterations, but has taken it more to appointment-​only bridal and other related fittings.

Pauline has saved my ass. seriously.
A month before my wedding, I find that my fiancé’s suit fit TERRIBLY. like, the WORST fitting suit I had ever seen. In a panic, I left a frantic voice message on her phone an hour after they closed, and to my surprise, she picked up! She was so touched by my state of panic and truly wanted to help me. She fit us into her busy schedule and turned the worse suit I had ever seen to an awesome suit, good enough for our wedding. She totally calmed me down with her professionalism, her sense of style, and her expert tailoring. Really truly she knows what she is doing, and she knows how to make clothes LOOK GOOD. She is a perfectionist, and tailored the vest twice in order to get ’ a perfect fit’
She is a lovely person to boot! I would love to live in Pauline’s world, and I briefly fantasized about working in her shop, she is that lovely to be around.
Yes, the tailoring is a bit expensive, but it’s an honest job well done, and if you want piece of mind? it’s totally priceless.

I called to request alterations on a bridesmaid dress for this summer. I left a very detailed phone message and NEVER heard back from anyone. Very unprofessional way to run a business.

A perfect experience with perfect results. Pauline has talent to spare and is a keen observer. It was well worth the trip across town to have Pauline work through my back log of alterations. She weighed in with clear honest opinions for when an item wasn’t worth the effort and was willing to go the extra mile for the pieces that I cared about. A four star rating only because this web site’s algorithms are suspicious of five star ratings.

How did she know?
I took a pair of high waist sailor pants in to get them taken in and have a cuff added to the bottom. Pauline, who was very friendly, had me put them on so she could pin them appropriately. I stood on the raised platform surrounded my mirrors and was slightly uncomfortable with the image I saw. She came into the room and started pinning them in and raising the hem. Then she stood, examined my posture and told me very gently, «Kelly, you need to breathe… sometimes as adults, we forget to breathe.» I looked down into her twinkling kind eyes and it was if she saw all of the sadness I had been feeling recently. I took a few deep breaths and Pauline proceeded to tell me how we forget to breathe properly. Her advice came at a perfect time in my life. And I took her advice. Her kind demeanor was perfection. This woman can see and sense what her customers are going through. Gentle, caring, and an amazing seamstress. After she was done pinning, I left the store feeling relaxed, cared for and amazed by Pauline’s grace.
I returned a week later to pick up the pants and the work she did was perfection. She even had them steamed. She is a perfectionist when it comes to the clothes. By far, the best seamstress I have ever been to. The price was completely worth it and actually cheaper than other tailors I have been to who don’t take the time to really be detailed. Pauline takes the time to really make sure your garment is perfect and you leave feeling like you had an interaction with someone truly special.

I’ve spent the last year dropping lots of pounds and as a result, clothing myself has become a new and exiting challenge! I got rid of lots of stuff, but decided to take a few things to be altered since I loved them so much in my chubbier state and I’m so glad I took them here! The whole experience was great.
Lots of undivided attention was given to how I wanted to skirts to fit and the end result left me very pleased. Despite the fact that lots of inches were taken in (go me!!) I couldn’t find how she’d done it. The work was beautiful and I love my «new» clothes!

As any fashionably minded person would know, finding a tailor beyond the level of ‘good’ is like finding a Chanel jacket underneath all the Goodwill heap of crap.

Most people don’t understand how much work it takes to tailor clothing AND to make look as if nothing was ever altered! I’ve taken 4 shirts here and left each time happily. Communication people! Always let whomever is adjusting the garment know how you like it.
I also happen to adore the owner! I could listen to this petite woman’s Irish-​accent and stories all day. Its oddly soothing.
Be prepared to shell out some $$. If you want quality you gotta pay for it. This place is always busy, but I never have had to wait a long period of time to receive my items.
