We stopped by this place for a quick lunch based on reviews. Don’t go! We ordered chips and gauc. The chips were old, stale and chewy. The gauc was primarily onions and they only gave us 2 tbsp of it. Then I had the carne asada taco which was tough and dry. The al

I ordered a carne asada burrito. It was delicious. Most taco shops just shove some rice and beans in there. This had quite a few different ingredients in it that I don’t taste in other burritos. It’s a hole-​in-​the-​wall restaurant with very little parking available, but you can park somewhere on the street within a few blocks. I wouldn’t say it is the best I have had, but one of the best in Monterey County.

The tacos here are great! Slow cooked meats, spicy and simply dressed. Love the barbacoa tacos. The tacos are $ 2.50 each which is very affordable, 3 filled me up. So far in the top 5 best tacos on the peninsula.

Awesome local business with great food and service! Definitely recommend the nachos and fish tacos.

Delicious hidden spot! Came here in a Thursday night. It was empty so that wasn’t a first good sign but the guy behind the counter was sweet and welcoming. We ordered tacos, sopes and a burrito. This was the best Mexican food I ever tasted, and that’s hard to believe coming from
Someone who comes from the Bay Area where you can find good Mexican food every where. The tortillas are hand made, the meat was so fresh and delicious! Loved it! Recommend it for sure. Def coming back for more.

Amazing food. We had the tacos de carne asada. The handmade tortilla is soft and thick. Everything is cooked fresh from start to finish by the sole owner /​cook. You have a private chef essentially. I can barley get my Brazilian gf to eat Mexican food, but this place had her convinced.

Owner is SUPER nice and friendly and will make your food custom if you ask :) will definitely be back.

The asaka taco is fabulous. The best taco I had ever. Because the beef was just cooked.

I’m a bit of a taco snob and San Diego and Chula Vista still have the best, but this place is doing alright. Easily best tacos on the peninsula: petite, simple, and spicy. You eat three or four of these bad boys and you leave satisfied. They are like $ 2.50 a copy, which is worth it when you compare quality to Taco Bell.
The shop is super quaint and the young daughter was very helpful in seemed to enjoy helping out around the restaurant, which was cool to see a family owned and operated business (it’s an endangered species in our economy right now). We will definitely return here for more grub, will want to try their California burrito next!

Maybe. But I sure couldn’t shake them off my mind after dining here a late Sunday afternoon. There was something about the food here and the fact that everything was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo­oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo­oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo­oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo plain and a reminder it is always about the taste, about the food, and DEFINITELY about how the food changes YOU as a foodie — or whatever you call yourself. Perhaps, an enthusiastic diner would be far more sufficient.
You see, I came here unprepared. It was my precious lady who had cravings and decided on this place. I, of course, will never challenge her when these cravings hit and would follow along like a typical minion.
It was, however, one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a long time.
NOT only are the corn tortillas made fresh from scratch but the salsa bar screams freshness as you scoop up their goodness to further accent your meal. They are also one of few places that I know who *HAVE* goat stew — one of my all time favorites that fixes even the worst of days, which also happens to bump them up from 4 to 5 stars. Dump chopped onions and cilantro from the bar and hit it with lime and you are taken to another dimension. You’ll probably forget that you’re sitting in the middle of Seaside on a hot afternoon. You’ll probably even forget that you were having a bad day.
I’ll be back and I hope any who reads this who appreciate no frills, no BS good food will take the time to patronize this cute little place in Seaside. It will be worth your time and the pennies you end up spending.

Great food and all is fresh and homemade with love. Great chips and homemade salsas… I’m coming back for breakfast!

So far the best tacos I have had here. I am a taco snob… I like border tacos and miss home a lot when it comes to Mexican food. Granted I come from AZ, very close to the border, so I gravitate to the Sonoran style of food. I like homemade tortillas and fresh off the grill flavors. This little place had both.
I went with 2 carne asada and 2 pork carnitas. I couldn’t finish all four, but not for lack of trying. Simple and pure. Tortilla, meat, onions and cilantro. They have a small salsa bar to put lime and your flavor of salsa. So good!
Not fancy and not big, but if you want food and don’t care about the ambiance the. You are going to love it.

Was craving carne asada fries & they were soooooooo good! Tasty, filling & cheap. Next to try will be the nachos!

With all the reviews, we had to visit Tacos California Grill.
Out of the large menu, I selected Birria de Chivo (Goat meat stew), also I ordered a side of rice for $ 1.50
While we waited some of us, received a good sized basket of tortilla chips. Nearby is a counter with 3 kinds of salsa, including a very good salsa verde. There were marinated carrot’s, dried chiles, minced onions and minced cilantro.
After 15 minutes, I was summoned to pickup my food.
It’s a medium bowl, with a side of 3 home made corn torilla’s: while it was flavorful, there was not much meat. $ 9.95
In our big group of ten, everyone seemed to like their food.

There’s a juke box loaded with Mexican hits: for only a quarter, you can get some musica. i chose some Vicente Fernandez.

The gentleman working was very kind.
His memory was not very good for working in the food service industry though… I ordered 3 carne asada tacos. My bf ordered 4 carne asada tacos no onions and a jarritos drink.
When we got our order mine was right, but my boyfriends tacos were just meat, no cilantro or jarritos drink.
We ended up having to go back and get it. (It was a to go order and we didn’t check until we left)
The food didn’t come with chips but the guy gave us some anyway free of charge.
The tacos were pretty good though! Authentic Mexican food.

This place is small so I got my food to-​go. I got two chicken tacos and they were delicious. I think it’s $ 2 per taco so very affordable. Will definitely recommend it if you are in the area and need to grab something quick and on the go!

What happened Unilocalers? I visited Tacos CA Grill for the first time on a slow Friday early evening for dinner. The restaurant was fairly empty so we didn’t anticipate a wait with our party of five. I selected this dining option based soley on the good reviews and I was really disappointed and surprised, as Unilocal reviews are usually consistent.
The salsa bar was nearly empty so we didn’t experience the various options. After we ordered, we waited for a small basket of chips for five adults and waited for the serving cups, chips were refilled soon. Most of the salsas were gone with the exception of one which was okay, just spicy and smooth. Based on recommendations, two of us ordered the carnitas tacos which came on a small (but flavorful) tortilla with meat only. I expected the usual accompaniments such as salsa, cilantro but we didn’t get these so flavor was dry and needed something. The fish tacos were okay and better than the carnitas. They did have additional toppings of cabbage, some salsa and crème fresca on the fish tacos. The restaurant was out tamales and didn’t have guacamole on the menu.
The side dish of beans were flavorful but served lukewarm. One guest had the chili verde and it was the best of all the items we ordered. I am not sure if we came on a night when they were limited to the one chef, and maybe that is why it didn’t live up to the other reviews.
On a good note, the service was relatively fast and the prices a great value. It was clean and definitely authentic in décor. Hopefully this was just an off night and we will try again another time and see if it is better.

Quant little taco place off the freeway! Traveling thru and looked on Unilocal and this place came up. Easy to find, great food, sweet service! The California Burrito was fantastic. All 5 tacos were great! Rice & Beans were fresh and yummy and the salsa bar had something for everyone!
Will definitely be back.
