Metropolitan Insurance continues to find ways to not pay out on a life insurance policy. When my mom passed, they would not let me change the beneficiary to the trust my dad set up because I was not my dad(who was no longer mentally competent to do so.) They denied my ability to do anything because the power of attorney I had was not«the right» power of attorney. The power of attorney I had was the all encompassing one. The latest is that all five siblings were sent a letter by Metropolitan to submit as one of the beneficiaries since Metropolitan denied payment to the trust. That was fine, I told all my siblings to send their application back and just get payment directly from Metropolitan. I knew, however, it could not be that easy, and here is the latest. I just received a letter stating that Metropolitan received a letter from«another claimant»(duh, they asked all five siblings to submit a claim!), they indicate they«reviewed the matter thoroughly» and have denied this mystery claiments claim, but there is now a 60 day appeal period to respond to the denial. In the meantime, this is once again in limbo. I wish this was only a matter of stupid people running the company, but it is clear they are thieves who do whatever they can to hold on to people’s money and not pay until they have used every dishonest tactic to delay payment. Unfortunately this is not enough money to hire an attorney to sue their sorry butts off, so all I can do is warn people, do not do business with this company!

Metlife has put me through 6 months of red-tape and paperwork hell that is never ending in order to issue a piddley $ 2,000 life insurance claim from my father’s death. I still have not been issued payment and continue to receive notifcation of more and more paperwork(which often requires the time and expense of hiring a notary). I seriously believe this company makes it so difficult just hoping people will not complete the process. I have sent them more paperwork in the last six months than they could ever need. I have much more easily secured placing both of vehicles in my name, recd the money from his 3 bank accounts, his entire 401k retirment has long been transferred over to me and my sister and it looks like his house will titled in deed in our names shortly. So there are almost $ 600,000 in assets that have been transferred to me and my sister, yet metlife still hasn’t issued the $ 2,000 they owe us and continue to ask for more paperwork. It’s just become a principle thing now, we are entitled to it, we want it. I make more than this in a two week period so it’s not a matter of need, it’s a matter of wanting what is legally entitled to us.
