Only 3 stars due to service not food which was really good. The steaks melted in your mouth, however Service was not that great. If we happened to be in the area again we would stop in and hope for better service. The place has a nice feel but is somehow a hodgepodge with dated chairs, it was weird, but we put it out of our minds as the food was good.

Went there to get away from all the chain restaurants in NEPA and made a huge mistake. This place disgraces the name of the Luger family. Service is beyond slow. Took over 15 before even taking our drink order. When we finally get a server, we decided to order the bacon slab, which was good; French onion soup which was also good to start. Then we made the mistake of ordering steaks from a steakhouse named in honor of the world famous Peter Luger steakhouse house in NYC. Two people ordered filet mignon, one ordered the rib steak and lastly a spaghetti and meatballs. It took an hour and a half from the bacon and soups till the main dishes arrived and they were TERRIBLE! Steaks were overcooked and had zero flavor. No wonder they put the world famous sauce on the table… its needed because these expensive cuts of meat had no flavor on their own. Even the spaghetti and meatballs were awful. The spaghetti was advertised as «al-dente», but it was more like out of the box and in the water for 2 minutes… heck the starchy taste hadn’t even cooked out. Needless to say, this meal was one of the worse i have ever had. To their credit, one of the servers, who wasn’t even ours noticed our displeasure and took the time to ask what was wrong and gracefully they took the 3 awful steaks of the bill. That was nice of them but the excuse and apology were also awful…“Every great homerun hitters strike out sometimes.” Not sure that’s what I wanted to hear after ordering over $ 150 meal in Scranton. Save your money, go to a chain steak place, the meat will taste better and cost half as much… Carl Von Luger you struck out!

House salad was very good. Crispy and had blue cheese crumbles. Pasta for linguine with clam sauce was very hard. Could have used a few more minutes to become al dente. the biggest disappointment was the Pecan Pie. It wasn’t a pie at all. Almost like a torte. Lots of crust. A very slight filling, more like as if it was thin like jelly and just a few pecans. For the money it wasn’t a special dinner. they do have good steaks, but you pay $$$ for them.

Everything was great! We had a big party and order tons of appetizer and entrees. Probably had a taste of a little of everything. My salmon was delicious. From drinks to wine to apps, entrees and macchiato’s I didn’t know Scranton had such a good find! The only downfall was the dessert.

We came to this steak house after finishing our competition at the Hilton nearby. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered various items, namely the porterhouse for 4. I’m not sure why it took so long to come out(30 – 40 minutes?), as we were only one of three tables seated at around 4PM. However, it was cooked as requested, medium rare. The texture was excellent, and the steak didn’t require excessive chewing. The crust on it was seasoned and charred well; the pieces near the edges of the porterhouse were cooked more thoroughly, but that is to be expected when cooking such a large piece of meat. The sides that came with the steak were tasty as well; this included the frites, mashed potato, creamed spinach, and mushrooms/onions. We also had the scallops; a bit pricey for 3 large scallops but they were executed magnificently. The sear was spot on, and the texture was not rubbery at all; the biggest sign that seafood has been cooked properly. Would we come here again? For sure.

A large group of us went to this restaurant on a Friday night. The place was packed. The service was good(a little slow because of the number of people, but still nice and knowledgeable); they were attentive and when we had to send one drink back, they immediately made us a new one. We ordered a side of bacon for the table, several wedge salads, coconut shrimp, entrees and sides, and dessert. For my entrée I had the 8oz filet, which was cooked perfectly. The side of bearnaise was on point. I had a side of mushrooms and creamed spinach, which were both good as well. The desserts were all incredible — my favorite was the chocolate mousse cake. It’s a pricey restaurant, so it’s probably best saved for special occasions. I had a great experience there though and would love to come back.

I have to say you always worry when you don’t know a restaurant personally. We went last night for our anniversary. I called ahead and reserved a table. I spoke with the EXTREMELY nice hostess and told her I would be having flowers delivered if she could take care of them till we got there. Once we arrived I was impressed how beautiful it was inside. The menu has a ton of selections from steak, seafood, veal, chicken and even a Vegetarian side. Martini’s are Strong and on point. Appetizers are simply amazing. Our main course(steak) was top notch. The staff is what hit the home run for me! Each and everyone of the waitresses and waiters were the friendliest I have ever dealt with. I have eaten at restaurants all over. I have to honestly say this was the best steak and seafood house I have ever eaten at. If you haven’t been here GO! When you do I recommend the soup sampler and pretty much any other item on the menu! Buy a bottle of steak sauce you will want more!

This was our second trip to Von Lugers. The first time was disappointing, but we wanted to give it a second chance, sometimes it might just be a bad night. Anyway, the food was well below what we expected, and very expensive. The service was ok, but the hostess was exceptionally rude. Not sure why. The place wasn’t crowded and we were pleasant to her. It’s very hard to enjoy your evening when it starts out with having to deal with a classless hostess. That was our last trip to Von Luger’s. We’ve had much better steaks at Lonestar and Texas Roadhouse. A lot less expensive and a lot friendlier.

Rude staff, hit or miss food and lackluster ambiance. I was dining every 2 weeks or more bc there are so few options downtown. The service got so bad that i couldn’t take it anymore. They’re also clearly playing off the name«Lugers». The only thing similar to Peter Luger in Brooklyn(the real Luger’s) is the uniform that the staff wears.

The steak is always done to perfection and the service is always sufficient and polite. I’ve run through a lot of the appetizers including calamari, coconut shrimp, shrimp cocktail, and sesame tuna. It’s all very good(especially the sesame tuna). The desserts? Don’t get me started. The reason Von Luger’s gets 4 stars is because it’s exactly what you’d expect for the price. Nothing less, but certainly nothing more. Nothing that exceeds your expectations. Carmen’s is stiff competition.

Never even ordered. We stopped in for brunch and sat at our table for 15 minutes with no server to bring us even water or coffee. We were sat in the front room and the two servers working that room asked another table, three, yes, three times how they were doing without even as much as a word to us. One of the servers even started cleaning an adjacent and empty table. Apparently, they weren’t interested in our patronage. We left and as we got up, another table next to us also mentioned they had waited an unusually long time. This is the second lackluster experience I have had here, won’t be returning. You have a long way to go to even keep up with the most mediocre restaurant choices in NYC. Don’t advertise yourself as a comparable restaurant. Shameful even by Scranton standards.

The oysters are fantastic! In my opinion, the freshest in the area. I got the open faced turkey for my lunch, it was just ok. My husband got the steak sandwich with horseradish sauce which was excellent. Service was fantastic, very friendly! Love the retro décor!

I was really impressed with this place. I’m in town for work and this is the first place I ate in when I arrived. I’m hoping that what I choose tomorrow won’t disappoint… Lol I had the filet mignon and this was one of the very few times that I didn’t need A1 sauce. The sautéed string beans and garlic mashed potatoes were amazing also. The service was great and they got me out quickly so that I could make it back to work on time. If I return to work here in the future, I will definitely have dinner here again.

This was the second time we tried this place and were disappointed. First of all the the host was rude walking us in. He silently motioned us to follow him without a word. We are seated and There are 4 other tables in the dining room, one was getting ready to leave. There was a red lipstick mark on my menu. I guess there were running out of menus and had to give me the gross dirty one. The bigs tables of 8 and 4 got a lot of attention from the wait staff. The two servers walked in 4 or 5 times and asked them if everything was ok and if they needed anything. We made eye contact with the servers but none of them came to our table to even take our drink orders. After 15 – 20 minutes of being ignored by the servers we got up to leave. The woman at the table next to us(an older couple) sees us leaving and says: I totally understand, we’ve been waiting for a long time and no one acknowledges us. That’s it for us. Never going back. Food is not that great anyway.

Wow!!! I had an amazing meal last night. It’s in an older building in downtown Scranton which means you are more than likely going to need to park on the street. Being that it was a Tuesday and after 6PM, parking was free. The waiter, Brian, quickly greeted us and took our drink orders. I had the pineapple upsidedown cake martini and it was delicious! My appetizer was the steamed clams which was cooked in white wine. Yummmy! The star of the meal was definitely my 8 oz Filet Mignon… which was hands down, the best piece of steak I’ve ever had. That’s what wet dreams are made of… haha jk. I would definitely return to try a few other items on their menu…

Right from the second we walked in until we left we had an amazing experience at this establishment. The food was delicious(the 8 oz filet mignon melted in my mouth), the carrot ginger soup was light and very good, we shared the bacon appetizer as well as the sushi grade sesame crusted tuna. My friends shared the salmon and raved about its freshness and taste. I don’t want to overshadow the main courses, but the star of the night was the chocolate peanut butter pie… I wish I had time to take a photo but we loved it so much, we just couldn’t wait. All desserts are made in house, the proprietor came around and chatted with us a bit and told us about the place. On Friday nights they have live music in the place, and so the atmosphere I’m sure is lovely. This place is not to be missed for seafood/steak lovers. One of the finer gems in Scranton, PA. Enjoy a meal here and then walk to the Cultural center to catch a Broadway show. That sounds like an amazing evening to me!
