Was in town to take care of some business and I was told about Abe’s. I love a good deli so the choice was made. Hot pastrami on rye with a knish on the side and a beautiful crunchy pickle. The drink was ice tea. I have to admit I could’ve spent the entire day at Abe’s just trying everything they offered. The establishment though small is well maintained, virtually spotless. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Watching some of the obvious familiars come and go, it is apparent Abe’s has quite the following. Prices are to be expected for good food which, at Abe’s, there is an abundance of. I took a trip back in time visiting this establishment and enjoyed it greatly. A fine deli with fine food without a trip to NYC. I don’t know when I’ll be back but I highly recommend it. Thanks Abe’s! It’s all good!

Everything bagels only had sesame seeds and caraway seeds? Where’s the rest of the EVERYTHING? I said no thanks… Salads looked great but it was breakfast time… Big disappointment! Was hoping for a really good EVERYTHING Bagel…

Great food. Boyfriend said it was the best pastrami sandwich he ever had. Even got one the next day before we drove back to Michigan so he could have it for lunch. The potato pancakes were yummy too, but definitely not the shredded ones I’m use to(it was like a crispy knish). Would definitely order it again.

I’m fairly shocked at the positive reviews for this place. I’m fairly educated about this type of food and here’s what we experienced. 1) Pastrami and Corn Beef meats were truly subpar, lacking in flavor and very low grade. Barely any better than what you’d get in a supermarket. 2) The Rye bread is FAKE. It’s like a white bread/rye bread hybrid, fluffy and light. It’s NOTHING like traditional rye bread. 3) The Matzah ball soup was brown and odd tasting. Sent it back. 4) My son ordered a salami sandwich and the meat was pale and cheap. The only thing good were the pickles and fries. Either the reviews here are FAKE or PA residents never had proper Kosher deli food. Go visit Pastrama King or Katzes and you’ll see what this food is supposed to be. Robert

Always consistent… Such great choices from Quinoa burgers to Novilox(sp) omelettes. 25 years + of consistency! Electric City Roasting coffee would make it perfect! Charge more for better coffee! Best servers downtown!

Food is good but man do you pay for it. I got a tuna pita and it was the same size as my $ 8.45 receipt. This came with no and no drink. Just the tiny tuna pita.

After reading many reviews we were so hopeful. Drove almost an hour to get here from Poconos. Reviewers must never have been to real Kosher delis. This is like a coffee shop that happens to have corned beef. Knish was awful and small. Sandwiches were slim. No pickles and saurkraut on tables. We were so disappointed. 2.5 hours to Katz’s in NYC. but worth the ride.

I ate at Abe’s for the first time today. It was so great to find this authentic Kosher deli in Scranton! I went with my boyfriend and we left with our bellies fully satisfied. We started with the potato pancakes since neither of us have had them before. They were served with a side of sour cream and applesauce. The pancakes were absolutely DELICIOUS! They were light and fluffy and fried to a perfect crispness. The outside was brown and crisp while the inside was soft and fluffy. I preferred eating them with the sour cream compared to the applesauce. However, I did enjoy both. Thumbs up for the pancakes! Next I ate the turkey pastrami Reuben. Oh boy — straight off the of grill, again, with perfect crispness. I would have preferred a little bit less sauerkraut, but then again, I’ve never been a huge fan of sauerkraut. All in all, a delicious sandwich. My boyfriend had the beef brisket sandwich combo that came with coleslaw. He got BBQ sauce on the side for $ 1 extra. The brisket, again, was succulent and tasty. I did prefer the turkey pastrami, though. The coleslaw was served with an orange sauce on top — amazing! The whole meal cost us ~$ 27(pancakes, Reuben, and sandwich combo). We will DEFINITELY be going back! Just FYI, the deli is very true to their kosher. Our potato cakes were served before our sandwiches due to the sour cream. Great job sticking to their values! The only reason I give 4⁄5 stars is because I wish the portion sizes were a little more generous. Other than that, absolutely no complaints. I can’t wait to go back and try more sandwiches!

Memorable stop on our way north through Scranton at Abe’s for a quick lunch. From the friendly service to the perfect pastrami to the just-one-more bite potato salad, this deli was the real Maccabee! Even the bagels were extraordinarily good — lighter than most with the perfect crunch. I gladly go many miles out of my way to stop at Abe’s again.

Great sandwiches a little pricey and hours suck. Wish they were open a little later. I love pickles and they are the best !

Imagine the perfect Reuben: layers on top of layers of warm, thick cut, and crispy pastrami, a pile of sauerkraut with just the right amount of bite, and a creamy drizzle of dressing to top it off. All of this sandwiched between two pieces of warm, flaky, and buttery bread. The sandwich ignites your taste buds as its flavors melt together in your mouth. The perfect sensation. This is the Reuben that Abe’s offers. A generous helping of warm, fresh pastrami that is sure to satisfy. Come for the phenomenal food and leave without a dent in your wallet. A great choice for a quick bite or something more. Skip the matzo ball soup and finish off with a sweet rice pudding instead :)

Tried again… same story. Good food. Waitress that never returns or brings check. Had to get our own yet again.

One of the best corned beef sandwiches I have ever had. The meat was lean, tender and warm. Served on rye with slaw and russian, what a great sandwich. The guy who served us(could have been Abe himself) was very nice and very attentive. Our sandwiches were ready quickly and served with really nice pickles. Great spot near the university. If we are ever back in the area, this will be a must stop!

Fantastic deli. I’m so glad I found this place The lox bagel sandwich was super delicious. Better than the $ 20 one I had in Manhattan. Strict to the kosher rules which is great. The staff was more than happy to make up a lunch box for us while we were traveling on the road. Fast, courteous, super high-quality, and an amazing value.

Quintessential Jewish deli with great fresh food and friendly service. You order take out at counter or sit down for service. Lots to choose from, great specials and always happy to accommodate customers request– provided it’s kosher. Lunch can get pricey with xtras but eggs and toast on fly early am is like $ 3.

THISIS A SIT-DOWNRESTAURANT — but you can also get a quick lunch to-go as well. Our waitress was really nice and took great care of us. My brother got the chef’s special and really liked his meatballs with mashed potatoes, so I would definitely check the specials board. My parents got the lunch special: my mom got a 4oz egg salad sandwich on wheat with the vegetable pestini(sp?) soup and my dad got the 4oz smoked turkey breast on wheat and a chicken noodle soup(not recommended). The lunch special also comes with refillable coffee or tea! I got the 6oz turkey of rye and I was VERY happy with the amount of meat — all for only ~$ 8.50 We stopped by here as a halfway rest stop from NYC to Niagara Falls!

Abe’s is really great — it fees like it belongs in downtown Manhattan but it’s right here in Scranton. The corned beef Reuben is awesome — and I’m a bit of a Reuben connoisseur. They make all of their stuff in house, and when they say Kosher they mean Kosher. I stopped by during pass over and instead of bread for the Reuben they used potato pancakes. It was really nice to be a part of their tradition, and it made me like Abe’s even more to know that they were so diligent in their Kosher heritage.

Abe’s is a little Jewish Deli tucked into a little corner in downtown Scranton. The waitress was so welcoming, kind, and accomodating. It was a Sunday afternoon and they were observing passover. No leavening agents could be served. No problem! Matzo was served at the tables. The Pastrami Reuben(get the 6oz. vs. the 4 oz., you’ll thank me later) was served on a potato pancake since bread could not be served during passover. I can honestly say, I preferred it! It was unreal! The potato pancakes were so different from any other that I’ve had with such a crunchy shell and amazing oniony flavor. There was creaminess from the russian dressing, crunchiness from the sauerkraut, great flavor from the pastrami, and the potato pancake really made it shine! We also ordered the matzo meal pancakes. They are not your typical pancake. They had wonderfully crispy edges and a sweetness to them that almost made them taste like funnel cake. We shared an order between 3 people because it is a large serving and none of us like sweet breakfasts but it was a delicious supplement to our savory meal. Abe’s is also super gluten-free friendly. My sister-in-law has celiac and they didn’t have any gluten-free matzo or potato pancakes so they improvised and created a «bun» with slices of potato filling(I forget what’s it’s typically used for) that they grilled up so she could enjoy the sandwich as well. Normally they have gluten-free bread but it could not served during passover. Darn leavening agents! The coffee is your regular run-of-the-mill coffee, but the food and atmosphere more than make up for it. Also, they cannot serve dairy and meat together so you get cream with your coffee while you wait for your food, then they take it and bring a fresh one with non-dairy creamer when you get your meal(assuming that you’ve ordered meat). Abe and every single person working there was above your average friendly. They really made an effort to make you feel like a long time family friend and went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we were pleased with our meal. If you’re ever in the area and want delicious Jewish Deli style food, this is your place! It is also very easy on the wallet.

It’s a real deli! Everything’s made in-house and with love like a real real deli. Had the matzo ball soup and the brisket sandwich– couldn’t have asked for anything better… Good, simple, food made with love.
