Buyer beware — paid $ 15 each for three tickets to see an advertised comedian. His set was about 20 min — AFTER enduring multiple atrocious karaōke performances! Tragic evening!!!

Came here for a show a few weekends ago for the first time. We almost missed it because wait for it… it’s located inside a Mexican restaurant! Yup! It’s located inside Papi Chulo’s. Anyway, we arrived right at 8PM, the time in which the show started. We waited outside for awhile for someone to seat us — the doors were shut and a poster on the door said to wait for someone to seat us. So we did. A waitress came out and said the show was completely full. We told her that we had pre-purchased tickets online. She then stated that it was again, completely full and there were no seats left. Umm. ok? I was kinda bummed about how she responded because she didn’t really take any initiative or find a way to assist us — so she left us hanging and went back inside to grab someone. She grabbed this dude, Jimmy. Didn’t know who he was or what he could do but he was nice and asked if we could return for the 10PM showing. I was already over it since we were kinda shooting for the 8PM show but we figured it would be fine. He also said that they could refund some of our money for the inconvenience. The 10PM show rolls around and we see Jimmy and he tells us to meet with Brian. Didn’t know who he was either, but he apologized for the mix up and hooked us up. We were also able to sit wherever we wanted. The venue is intimate(not very large) and it was Salsa Night at Papi Chulo’s so every time the door opened, salsa music permeated through the venue, LOL! The show was super funny and it was even funnier when we found out that Brian was the owner, host and a comedian and Jimmy was also the comedian that opened up for the main act. So both the dudes we talked to before the show, were part of the show. I’m giving this place 5-stars for the hospitality and awesome service from Brian!

It’s a little odd that this place is actually inside a restaurant. Not exactly the«norm» for a comedy club. That said… it was an absolute blast! All the comics there were hilarious! We went to the late show which lasted just about two hours. Overall a great time!

What a great find! We laughed from the time we got there because we walked into a Town & Country hotel thinking the venue was in there only to find that we needed to go into Papi Chulos to get to it. Brian greeted us right when we walked in and was super friendly, and once the stand up began we started laughing and didn’t stop until it was over. My face hurts.

Had a great time there last night. All the comedians were funny. There was a heckler that needed to shut up so some of the comedians could finish their jokes. The only thing I’d say they need is a bouncer of some sort to shut the hecklers up. Overall a great experience and I will be back. There’s no sign outside for the comedians but I think they deserve one.

This was our first time here, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. But the show was really funny. We had a blast. The guys and gal did some really great improv sketches based on my activities for that day. They kept us involved and part of the show. I’ll definitely go back. Maybe I’ll try one of their other locations next time.

First we have a football player out of the closet and now I’m forced to listen to a gay comedian for his miserable 15 minute set? The only time people laughed was when I heckled the dude midway through. I mean, the guy had his little notes sitting on the chair next to him — that is not a professional, that is somebody who should be practicing in front of his mirror at home or working on his routine at amateur night. Besides him, they had a host who was funny, another warmup comic who was straight and told more gay jokes than the gay guy(not funny) and another guy from New York who was really good. Finally we had the headliner, who had just come from a big gig in Flagstaff the night before. Hey, once you play Flagstaff you have made it in the business right? Whatever, this dude was pretty comical at times and was worth the free tickets I had secured and to my joy he was ripping off some serious offensive gay jokes and even told some annoying loud women in the front to Shut the F$%ck up. The room is tiny and the service can be slow, but comedy clubs are always good for date night., The two-drink minimum was waved for me when waitress dumped three full glasses of ice water in my vicinity, but it does normally apply. If you charge $ 15, then make it a one-drink minimum or just charge $ 10 with two drinks. Either way we did laugh alot, and the host said he was going to get better comedians in the future, but I’m not sure I believe him. Lots of competition in this area.

Great local venue, I went last night to support a friend and loved the lineup, energy, and cocktails. It was a lot of fun and I will definitely be going back. I give it 5 stars because of the effort they are putting in here to make it great. The food is about 3 stars(from the restaurant), in fairness.

I slap my hand for the fact that I live so close and yet have just now discovered this comedy stop. During the holidays, my husband and I decided to give the Speakeasy Comedy Lounge a try. We had no idea what we were walking into but what did we have to lose? Maybe a laugh or two, but that would be it. Luckily, no laughs were lost during our visit and in fact, we ended up laughing a lot! The Speakeasy Comedy Lounge is located in an area connected to Papi Chulo’s. It’s divey comedy and I mean divey. Let me divulge. We showed up and realized that the show might be sold out, but instead of turning us away, the friendly staff member asked us to hold on for a minute while he set up another table… and he literally did just that! He pulled out a card table, plopped it in an open area(kind of) of the room and threw on a white tablecloth(who cares if all the other tablecloths on other tables were black!) He then seated us and just like that we were enjoyed a comedy show. I thought his actions really spoke highly of their customer service and I could tell that they really want to make their customers happy. Throughout the show, guests were able to order food from Papi Chulos. We didn’t order any food during our visit but it’s nice to know it’s an option. There is also a two drink minimum. The owner got up to welcome us to the show and was friendly, funny and fast. From there, we saw four comedians perform over the course of the two hour show. The majority of comics were really funny, minus one but we won’t talk about him. I genuinely laughed throughout the performances and left in a happy mood and eager to return! In summary, this is a fun option for a night out in Old Town and definitely off the beaten path. They also offer a deal for the connecting hotel for those who attended the comedy show. It was $ 49 a night when we attended the show and they also offered happy hour pricing for Papi Chulos after the show.

This is a great little local comedy club. There are no signs for the comedy club out front so you kind of have to know where you are going. It is inside the Papa Chulo’s mexican restaurant and slightly in the back. The host/owner is actually pretty funny and does his jokes in between acts. If you have ever been to a comedy show you will know that sometimes you get a new comic in the beginning who is either very new or just not very good. Don’t fear, with the host and the variety of people you see at each show, you will not leave disappointed. I would recommend coming about a half hour to even and hour before the show. Get your seats and order dinner at your seats. You are allowed to eat in there and drink until the show starts. They even have a special with the hotel next door so that you can buy tickets to the show, drink and then not worry about driving home. It’s a great way to let folks really let them selves have some fun.

I was recently invited here by a friend who occasionally does stand-up at this location. I was visiting from out of town and she thought we’d like to check it out. The venue itself is nice enough. I’ve been in comedy clubs that were not a nicely laid out or kept up… this place wasn’t dingy and sketchy as far as I could see. It was nice having it attached to the restaurant as well(way more menu options — bacon wrapped shrimps were awesome in a decadent unhealthy way)) but it also meant if you needed to use a washroom you had to walk all the way through the restaurant to get to them. Also, when I arrived it was hard to tell where the club part was at first. The line up was mixed… that is the case with most local shows anywhere you go. We all have different senses of humour, right? And even comics have their good and bad nights. Most were good, only one was painful and a couple were standouts. Service was great in the beginning but my server seemed to lose interet half way through. Which is too bad because I probably would have had more to drink if she had just asked. Oh well. I’m kind of between a three and a four for this one. Perhaps I’ll check it out again whenever I’m back in town.

Made for a good date night. My wife bought the living social deal and we went in for an early show on Saturday. 2 meals + dessert and a show for less than $ 40 with the living social deal isn’t a bad deal. I think some people must have got their comedy clubs wrong when reviewing this one because there is no 2 drink minimum at least that we were told about and we didn’t order 2 drinks. There is another Comedy club that has some bigger named acts nearby and they have a 2 drink minimum crappy food but better comics. This place had no drink minimum pretty decent food and some more amateur/local talent. The first couple weren’t that funny, but the owner was good, the DJ was hilarious too with his act and by the final 2 or 3 comics there was quiet a few laughs to be had. We enjoyed ourselves and would come back.

Speakeasy is okay. I know it’s a speakeasy, but it’s located inside the mexican restaurant. The waitresses were okay, but a soda water was $ 4. The line up I saw was fine, but it wasn’t anything special. I would visit again depending on who was playing.

Still loving this place. Brian and Bobby run a great room and the comics are almost always fantastic. Let’s face it, not everyone laughs at everything, and not every comic appeals to every audience member. Thankfully this place is more hit than miss. I had a custom pineapple margarita which was excellent and the food from Papi Chulo’s is good — the chicken fajitas were great. The comics Friday night were ALL funny(in my humble opinion) and a huge shout out to club producer Brian Mullan for being the hardest working host I’ve ever seen — Period. My ONLY beef is with the servers. This past visit the server was pleasant enough but it seemed like maybe she was overwhelmed with the number of customers. In any event, I will keep returning(this coming Saturday night, in fact). Thanks for another great night, Speakeasy!

The comedians are funny and atmosphere is great! Food is good and great $ 5.00 Speakeasy Comedy specials but the service is crappy. They take your order and you never see them again. My husband and I have been there 4 times now and we always have a good time!

Friend and I ordered a groupon for this place a few weeks back and were disappointed with the results. We got the groupon since we were looking for something fun an inexpensive to do on a Saturday night. This turned out to be the opposite. Knowing that most comedy clubs have 2 drink minimums and not wanting to drink or spend the money we read all the fine print on groupon, the website and couldn’t find any mention of a 2 drink minimum. Then we show up and the hostess tells us «oh there is a 2 drink minimum and if you order at the bar outside that doesn’t count towards it.» She follows this by telling us «i told my manager to update that on the website multiple times» when I mention it not being listed anywhere. From there we waited and extra 20 minutes for the first show to end. When we get in we order two of the margaritas, I could barely notice any alcohol in it. Second round of drinks I just order a captain and coke… it tasted like coke hold the captain. When it came to pay the tab it was $ 40 for 2 margaritas, a captain and coke and a bud light and I think the BL had the most alcohol. Way over priced and jumped the cost of the night considerably. The venue itself was ok at best. A spotlight in the corner was constantly in the corner of my eye, should have been mounted in a place where it doesn’t interfere with sight lines. The table layout is ok but some tables will have views obstructed by poles. With so many other comedy venues in the area I can’t recommend this one.
