Was backing out of the parking space after having dinner at Soul Café when I spotted a new store just next door and wondered what kind of merchandise was offered there. I decided to park again and investigate. I hadn’t expected Lost Soul to be open since many strip mall stores close by 5 or 6p, or at least that has been my experience here in the Phoenix valley, so when I met Mary Ann(she and Soul Café chef Sheila are co-owners!) carrying potted plants in and out of the store, because the wind was wreaking havoc to the plants, I was pleasantly surprised! As it turned out, LS just opened a few days before and the two were still trying to figure out the business hours; Indeed, Mary Ann thought it would be wise to be open during Soul Café’s Wednesday dinner special(AYCE buttermilk fried chicken). I stayed and looked around for about fifteen minutes, admiring the turquoise bracelets, inlayed-stone and carved-leather boots(women’s 7.5 through 10, but I was told we could try special ordering my size), moderately-priced open-weave Stetson-style hats(the prices make me want to consider getting one!), U.S. state-shaped license plate decorations, and even the refurbished set of couches that Mary Ann herself had given a new look to. I also saw a small selection of clothing, which included a few pieces made in the USA(!). There was even a baby section with onesies and mini-diaper holders… I’m sure there were other baby shirts there, but I decided to move on and look at other sections. The store is very new, and décor and merchandise are arriving daily, so I have not seen everything Mary Ann and Sheila’s Lost Soul has to offer(and many are locally-made by Arizona artists), but I liked what I saw. Good luck to Sheila and Mary Ann’s new venture with rustic and eclectic Lost Soul!
