Ignite Phoenix 13 was my first Ignite event and I had a wonderful night. My friend and I agreed that the Ignite events would be something we’d want to go to every time. In case you aren’t familiar with Ignite, there are 18 presenters, each getting five minutes and twenty slides to discuss what they are most passionate about. As one finishes, the next presenter comes out immediately. As Ignite states: Enlighten us, just make it quick! The evening started off with a happy hour outside in the Scottsdale Civic Center from 5−6pm. There were drink stands, three food trucks, a stage for live music, and plenty of space to mingle with the other Ignite enthusiasts. Then at 6:30pm the real fun begins. The first nine presenters gave their informative, energetic and inspiring performances. Each one did an amazing job. I could single out my personal favorites, but I don’t want to take away from any of them. They were all legitimately awesome. Seriously, not a single bad performance. There was a 30 minute intermission and then the second half started with Ignite Karaōke. This is where three members of the audience are picked and they have to come up with their own presentation for the six random slides they are shown. It was very creative and extremely entertaining. The second set of nine presenters went and they too were original, entertaining, educational, and inspiring. After the show there are two additional hours outside in the Civic Center where you can speak with any of the presenters, have some drinks, eat some food, and dance to some music. It’s basically a perfect night out. What’s so cool about Ignite is that many times the topic you think you’ll be least interested in turns out to be one of your favorites. If you really aren’t feeling a presenter, don’t worry. They’ll be off the stage in five minutes anyway. At $ 15 a ticket, you get beyond your money’s worth. That’s only 83 cents per speaker! Having just been to my first Ignite Phoenix event, I thought this was fabulous! It is very interesting and the five minute presentations that people make are just the right length. Most of the presenters were fairly interesting, even if I did not identify with the topic they were presenting.
