I don’t know about other folks, but I shop at places that offer good prices, high quality, and wrap that in great customer service. I’ve been known to frequent dives to get the lowest prices anywhere, but often times I sacrifice a pleasant experience or quality. In Mark Widman, Scotts Valley Sprinkler offers just about the best customer service experience anywhere. Mark, without fail, repeatedly goes above and beyond, is always friendly, and is always accommodating to the customer. I’ve probably been to Scotts Valley Sprinkler 10 times in the past few months for erosion control and drainage supplies and I’ve noticed that Mark treats every customer the same way. Because my experiences with Mark have been so stellar, I worry less about the cost and quality. However… The quality is as good as anywhere else. They carry the major brands in drainage supplies. They probably are a little bit more expensive than other places, however. For example, I watched their 4′ x 225′ jute netting go from $ 79 to $ 89 to $ 99 over the course of a couple months. Mountain Feed in Ben Lomond always sells it for $ 69. In sum: Go to Scotts Valley Sprinkler and ask for Mark. He’s wonderful.

Just a short update to re-iterate what another poster said, about ‘Buyer Beware’. I recently stopped by there to see what they had for trench drains and large catch basins. The catch basin I was specifically interested in is by Christy(or Oldcastle). It is a sectional 2′ x 2′ basin that you can build up to different heights. The overall model number is U21S, then there are specific model numbers for the different sections. For instance, the U21SX12NF is a 12″ high extension; Ewing’s price is $ 118.62. SV Sprinkler quoted $ 249. For the U21ST6RF, which is a 6″ top section with an integral frame, Ewing quoted $ 213.79; SV Sprinkler was $ 450! More than 100% more… so Buyer Beware — check your pricing at different places because this place is insane, and the people that work there from my experience really do not have a pleasant attitude. I’m amazed that they stay in business.

I really like this place. They always take time with me to make sure I’m getting the right equipment for my project. It’s a little overwhelming at first, but just ask for what you need & they’re eager to assist. For my last project they threw in a couple of short pieces of pipe just to help me out and gave me a discount to boot!

I have done business with these folks for 15 years. Although I am not a contractor or high-volume customer, they treat me like they treat their big customers. Recently I bought several hundred feet of ¾″ irrigation hose, which turned out to be faulty. They replaced it immediately, and when I found myself to be ten feet short, they gave me extra feet for free. When it comes to products they carry, I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. Greg B.

Everyone was helpful and pleasant! What a nice change after being so rudely treated at Ewing in Santa Cruz.

They’ve got everything(or they can get it for you). Fair prices, easy.

Wow, what a disappointing business philosophy these people have. My story: 2 years ago, I bought $ 536 worth of stuff from this place, including 400 or so feet of pipe,(at about $ 66/100′ roll) and all sorts of fittings –You can’t get out of that place without spending a ton of money. I install all that, finding, by the way, a hole in one of the 100′ rolls — finding it the hard way, with water spurting out of it after it had been installed… and since one can’t be sure if it got punctured before or after I got it in my truck, I wasn’t going to complain – without too much trouble, but I had one 100′ roll left over. I knew that I would be working on more piping, so I held onto it. This week, I started installing some more fittings. Couldn’t get it to work. Put it all together with compression/barb fittings, leaks, take it apart, do it again more carefully, leaks. Called them up to ask for advice. They suggested extra gluing, and waiting a full day before testing. Which I did. More leaks. I’m now 3 days into this problem, and then I notice that the interior diameter of this roll of pipe is too big. It’s a faulty product. I call them back, tell them I’m going to return it the next day(a Saturday) I drive the 1 hour it takes to get there, and when I do, the manager says he WAS going to exchange it for me, with a 25% ‘restocking fee’, but because I had cut off one section(remember I was trying to install this for 3 days? Of course I started to cut it to size) he couldn’t take it back at all. Why wouldn’t they stand behind their product? «I can’t take this pipe in two pieces, because now I can’t sell it to someone else.» Huh? It’s a faulty pipe! You can’t honestly sell it to someone else! I told the manager I had at least 5 hours of solid work in this pipe gone due to this faulty product, and they wouldn’t even do an exchange. They were even planning to charge me another $ 15 just for the privilege of them doing the right thing. That same day I already had close to $ 50 in other products I was going to buy in my hand. Not any more. I’m going to make sure the 5 other neighbors of mine who are about to buy 5000 tanks and all the fittings NOT to go to this place, as they obviously won’t stand behind their products.
