great food, great drinks! Small, not good for large groups but there is a good amount of seating at the bar.

We first tried this place when looking for a house. It just so happens it is one of the closest places to our house. We have tried it a few times since moving in and have been pleased. My husband likes the sirloin tip sandwich a lot. The chili and chips are good as well.(I like it as take out on cold night). I recently tried the chicken Marsala over penne and it surprised me!(See pic). The last time we are there they had open mic. The music was nice But it got very packed very quick. It’s very small in there. Luckily we ate early.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while traveling from RI to CT on a whim. Not disappointed at all, burgers and sandwiches were fresh hot and the soups were great as well. The waitress Brandi? Was great and very attentive and the whole experience was worth the stop. Highly recommended for a lunch stop.

Really liked this place. Even though I’ve lived in RI my entire life, I’ve spent very little time exploring the Scituate area so had not heard of the Village Tavern until my first visit last week. It was a Friday night around 6pm and it was pretty busy. It’s a relatively small restaurant and began to get pretty crowded but luckily we were able to find a table once we arrived. The tavern has an old feel to it, a place you walk into and immediately feel warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly enough, due to the crowd there wasn’t much chit chat but that was fine with us as we were very hungry. I ordered the smoked salmon met which was delicious. The salmon tasted excellent, a bit too many red onions but those were easily picked off. It was just a great sandwich. My date had the turkey club which looked excellent. She enjoyed it very much with the only complaint being there was too much mayo on the sandwich so would ask for it on the side in the future. The coleslaw on the side was good too which is important as it can be a bummer if you don’t enjoy the side! Decent drink selection, nothing crazy for craft beers but a nice solid selection. I will definitely be returning and venturing further on the menu. I recommend this to anyone in the area or driving through. It’s quality!

Nice neighborhood tavern with good beer and good food. I’ve only been here once but I would definitely return of in the area again. The food is basic bar food but with a classy twist — turkey club on sourdough bread with a cranberry mayo, beets and goat cheese salad, etc. There are apps, soup, salad, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and entrees of chicken, beef, and seafood. We went in for a late lunch/early dinner. It was fault full and there was only a bartender on for the whole restaurant(bar and about 12 tables) but he kept the food and beverages and was equally attentive to all customers. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a causal but elegant meal or a more formal sit down special occasion type deal.

Found this place by chance. My group wanted to eat at the pizza place next door, but they closed down. I never even knew this place existed. We walked in and were immediately happy. It’s a great little place, quaint, with good décor. The food is outstanding, we started with the Calamari. Delicious sauce and perfectly cooked. For the entrée I had the Beef Tenderloin sandwich. One of the best steak sandwiches I have ever had. It was about ½ thick, cooked to perfection. Cannot wait to come back to this place! The only bad thing I have to say about it is that service was a tad bit slow, but to be fair the bartender was by himself until close to us leaving. But the service could have twice as bad, and i’d still come back for the food.

Stopped here on my way home from a job in RI and was very suprised. The food was fantastic and the service was great. I thought the salad was very basic but one of the best salads ever. There was two girls working behind the bar and both were extremely nice and pleasant. I wish this place was closer to me

This place is certainly a tavern. The bar is the focus of this establishment and takes up most of the room but again, its a tavern! It is cozy and warm inside. If you come in here and expect to find only bar or pub food, you will be pleasantly surprised! The food was always excellent here when it was when it was under a different name, and I am happy to report that as the Village Tavern, the cuisine is still top notch. There are a lot of places where you kind of look at the menu and wonder if the kitchen can actually pull off every entre in there. I wouldn’t hesitate to order anything on the menu here. I recently came with a group of people who ordered all types of things: burgers, meatloaf, seafood, salads. Everyone was pleased. I ordered a salad knowing I would probably have food envy but it was much more satisfying that I had expected.

I would consider myself a regular, Monday nights are fun with open mic night and the bartender is on his game every time. The lady who works the floor is always friendly and greets you with a smile. The beer is always cold and the people are happy and friendly. Tuesday nights I always eat dinner and the food is outstanding I can’t say enough about it. I have never been disappointed with snacks, soups, dinner, drinks, But on Wednesday 7÷22÷15 was a reminder why I don’t go there when a certain male bartender works. He is obviously related to the owner because there is no way this person should be behind a bar much less in the service industry. I have gone before when he is working and I always have poor service and an empty glass, He only pays attention to his friends and completely disengaged himself from other people. I can only hope the owner wakes up from his long nap and catches on to this scam.

Just passing by and saw they had 4.5 stars so we stopped in for lunch. A cool small place with a nice bar and some locals eating. I am a bourbon drinker and they had some nice single barrel ones. Asked the bartender what to order and she said without hesitation the steak sandwich. It was a filet on a roll with mushrooms, grilled onions and swiss. Absolutely fantastic. Give it a try if you are passing through.

Been coming here regularly since my family moved to the area about 2 years ago. We all love it! My parents come about twice a week. Between all of us, we’ve had just about everything on their menu and we’ve never been disappointed. Food is well prepared, nicely presented and always consistent. Service is excellent and always on point, even on nights when it’s packed! They have a sign by the bar. It says that their customers become their family– couldn’t be more true. We know all of the waiters/waitresses and bartenders by name, my dad even chats with the chef from time to time. The décor is lovely and all very interesting-you will notice something new each time you go. Such a friendly and warm environment, which is often just what we need after long days. The village has it figured out, stop in and see for yourself!

Since I live in this area, it is a place that I will visit to meet up with friends, or to have lunch or dinner. The staff is always friendly, the locals are friendly and the food is always great! I like the option of outdoor seating which is enjoyable in the warmer weather.

Stopped at this place on the way through from CT to providence for a concert. It has a cozy atmosphere, the bartenders/waiters are very friendly and the service was great! My friend and I got the chili and chips appetizer and it was fabulous! We also got the smoked salmon sandwich to share and it was delicious! The food was to die for and it was a comfortable little place to hang and have dinner! Wish it was closer to my home. I had a great experience!!!

Great Tavern location! We had a table of 8 for a family reunion on a Saturday at lunch. The bartender/waiter, Rex was so friendly and helpful. Food was beyond expectation. Seafood medley was amazing. Flatbread pizza with gorgonzola was amazing. Ceaser salad was great. Everyone had a great time and didn’t feel rushed. We’ll be back!

This is my favorite relax destination. The tavern has by far the best burger and fries in Rhode Island. Burgers are hand pressed. Fries are fresh! Next up is the turkey club. I think the sandwiches are better than the entrees but that’s me because I don’t like chewy chicken.

Lisa and I stopped in here around 4 on Thursday March 7th, we were en route from a short hike near ‘big hill’ near Clayville, RI(with Lucy the Lab) and ‘Running Errands’ in Johnston… Lucy did have to wait in the truck. It was warm inside and welcoming to walk in on such a cold day. We sat next to the fireplace at a table, the place had more the bar crowd that time of day, short one other couple sitting at a similar table at the end of the bar. The Bartender at the time waited on us, super nice, friendly, and courteous. I ordered the $ 10 sandwich on the chalked-on special board sitting against the wall at the end of the bar towards the kitchen: Grilled Ham and Cheese. Lisa ordered the Reuben off the menu. . Both with fries after the Bartenders suggestion of great homemade cut fries. . The Fries were nicely done, Seasoned to perfection and crisp… The crisp Half-Sour Pickle that came with the plate was also a treat I do enjoy with sandwiches. The Ham sandwich was what I was expecting, exceedingly done. Nice Browned Grilled Bread, Thick Ham Steak, Gooey Cheese and a bit of Dijon Mustard(Not too much and not to little). . I only had one bite of Lisa’s Reuben but it looked equally as nice with its components, the corned beef seemed to be some thick cuts of a house made brisket(NOT the deli style cold cut material). Drinks were on point, I started with a club soda and lime and finished my sandwich with a cola… which I shared with Lisa, who stuck with Ice Water, and her glass never reached half empty with the efficient bartender. The Ambiance of this Tavern was also a treat. The Bartender was well dressed in a black suit(no jacket). Green Carnations as Table Décor, perhaps of st. Patricks day next week. The Cloth Napkin wrapped Silverware crossed upon each other in the middle of the table was something of notice. The Wall Art is also entertaining, there is a lot to look at, my favorite spotting was a cribbage board carved into a ½ a bowling pin. The Bathroom was clean as well — something I tend to take notice of travelling restaurants and other places. . Lucy was bummed because there was nothing left for us to take home since we cleaned our plates. .

The Village Tavern used to be called Bentley’s Tavern. Just an FYI for anyone who is already a fan of Bentley’s — this is the same place with the same chefs, the only real difference is a spruced up dining room, and by spruced up I mean added tablecloths. I was a little nervous at first when I saw the name change, I won’t deny — it took me 3 visits since the name change to write this review… just to be sure. Feel free to check out the reviews of Bentley’s, you will get more to read through. In the meantime — let me tell you, you will not go wrong when you come to this excellent little tavern. The food is superb, everything from the various sandwiches(Tuna Salad with Wasabi Aioli, Grilled Cheese with parma prosciutto, fresh basil and balsamic, or the wonderfully tender Tenderloin steak sandwich) the Burger — which is outstanding, and impresses me EVERYTIME, hand cut fries and excellent pickles. If you are looking to indulge a little beyond sandwiches, the entrees are fab too. I could list most of the menu here, because I have tried just about everything, and everything pleases. The standouts are their version of Chicken Marsala, served in a hearty marsala sauce over mashed potatoes, the excellent Crabcakes, and they also make one of the best steaks in the Providence area — I stand by that statement. It is a tavern, it is snug, and is usually full of locals sitting at the bar, and depending on how busy it is, you can wait few minutes for your food. But with the great beers on tap, and generous pours of wine, and the selection of books surrounding the seating area, you shouldn’t get too impatient waiting for your food. Save room for dessert — baked by a local baker/magician. I rarely have room left over, but when I do — dessert is happily consumed. I could keep going, clearly I am a fan. Hopefully you will enjoy it too if you make the trek to Scituate!
