Very tasty lunch with a very attentive waitress and bartender to boot. It was so nice to have lunch and drinks for two and spend less than $ 40.

The Grog Burger is quite good. Wings and fries are also pretty good here too. Try the wings with Jack Daniels Sauce.

Chief complaint — Wedgeway building smells like a mildew. What makes it worse is that ownership must be aware of that fact, and spray the place with cirrus Lisol. So it smells like a combo of my grandmas moldy basement and chemicals. Really detracted from my dining experience. Also disappointed by the beer selection — you’d think a place called the Grog Shoppe would offer more than run-of-the-mill brews. Menu looks pretty good, but haven’t been able to enjoy anything due to the smell… I might be sensitive but I think it’s a real issue.

If you take the Grog Shoppe for what it is, it’s a 4 to a 4.5, easy. Old décor, reminiscent of days gone by… but that’s part of the charm. Some hate it. I embrace it. Their burgers are phenomenal. If I lived closer, I’d be in there once or twice a month.

For an old Schenectady dive, I was very impressed with the food. Had the Hawaiian Burger which was cooked to perfection with pineapple and a mild curry mayo. Very happy with the choice. As for the décor, there’s alot that can be improved here. For starters, they desperately need new table covers that don’t look like grandma’s fruit cellar tablecloth. The booths were comfy, but the individual chairs should be updated. I would keep all the kitchy antiques and mirrors because they are reminiscent of a time long forgotten and they help conjure images of when the shop was on the second floor overlooking the Eerie Canal.

I haven’t eaten here so I cannot judge the food but I’m judging everything else. Beer Selection: Not very interseting. Standard big breweries of america beers. No craft beer the craftiest beer is Sam Adams. Décor: this is 50⁄50 I really like how cozy and old timy the bar feels. I do not however care for the signage that is completely inconsistant, not updated but scratched out and written all over in marker(Each sign behind the bar has different information and different parts crossed out). It’s just a sign of pure laziness. There was also a lot of fruit flies. Service: This is an A+ I loved our bartender. It was an adorable college aged girl who was friendly and quick and good at her job. Also the cooks seemed very friendly as well. Over all I would go back, but I won’t ever suggest it myself.

I had been curious to try out the Grog Shoppe and finally had the opportunity to dine there. The décor of the Grog Shoppe is kitschy and dated, which makes things a little interesting, but then again, it may be instrumental in keeping the prices of the food low. I decided to have a Yuengling to go along a cup of chili(it was a cold, cold evening, so the chili hit the spot) and a Hawaiian burger. I found the service to be on the slow side, and they were out of clam chowder for the night, but the food was overall decent. As for the burgers, they are a half pound, and less expensive than what you’d find at other like restaurants in the area. However, their big thing they have is a pineapple topping on many of their burgers, which does make the Grog Shoppe unique.

The Grogg Shopp: I am a big fan of this place. It is a 5 Star if you want good food, bar food, cheap food and drinks. The taste of the food and the quality for the price makes it 5 starts. Food: I usually get wings or medium, or jalapeño poppers for an appetizer. The Hawaiian burger is one of the best burgers ever… ever. It has pineapple and a great sauce on it. My gf usually gets the swiss and mushroom burger. Service: The only down side is the service, it is normally slow. The last few times it has been better, other times I have been there and other than your order, your food and your check you do not seem to see the server. Price: The usually the bill is $ 30 or under for 2 burgers, and appetizer and salad and a few drinks. Other: They had an off the street lot. There is some near by parking on the street. I usually go dinner time.

To quote the legendary Gordon Ramsay, said in his voice with that trademark look of disgust: «Ahhhhh, fuck me!» The Grog Shoppe was once a popular spot for lunch in our office for reasons that I can’t entirely explain. I suppose we’re generally tolerant, to an extent, of service and food that isn’t perfect. But after a long train of abuses, there comes a time when the towel needs to be thrown in. I’ve certainly reached that point with the Grog Shoppe. I’ll list some of my issues with this place. (1) The service is very unreliable. Will it take 15 minutes or 45 minutes to get our food today? Will they remember to bring everyone’s food? Will they bring the correct order? It feels like it could be a gameshow sometimes. (2) Relating to(1), it’s has happened more than once, for example, where three of the four people in our group get their food. Almost ten minutes later, the waitress brings out the fourth person’s food as though there is nothing wrong with that… just in time as the rest of us are finishing up. Because why would any group of people actually want to eat together? (3) Food randomly comes out almost completely raw or otherwise improperly prepared. There’s nothing like getting served raw chicken… multiple times. We’ve also had some issues with the taco salad. It doesn’t seem like there’s a consistency with regard to cooking food. (4) Like the service and relating to(3), the quality of the food is also very unreliable. One day, you order the burger and it’s really good, cooked exactly as requested. Another day, you order the burger, and it tastes like they found two-week-old roadkill, threw it on the grill long enough to warm it up and then served it to you. The variance in taste and quality that I’ve experienced is just bizarre. (5) It’s somewhat forgivable that a restaurant runs out of things from time to time, but really, how often can you reasonably run out of common things like french fries before it just becomes ridiculous? That said, it’s only fair to mention some of the positive points. (1) Their wings are pretty good, when they’re actually prepared properly and served to you before they become ice cold. Always a crapshoot. (2) They serve alcohol. This can be instrumental in helping you disregard the random quality of the food and ignore the fact that your body may well be in the first stages of an infection by an as of yet unidentified — possibly extraterrestrial — strain of bacteria from the kitchen. Seriously though, if all you want is a drink after a show or something, this place will do the trick. The bar is good. (3) One of the bartenders in particular was always friendly, reliably helpful and prompt with service. She was one of the few truly redeeming qualities of this place. The Grog Shoppe is a total no-go for me now. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If they could nail down the consistency issues in particular, it would actually be a pretty good place. To be honest, their burgers ARE excellent when they’re on their«A» game. Maybe I’ll stop by again sometime down the road and follow up to see if they’ve improved. I want to like this place again but I need a reason to do so.

Big fan of the food at this place, however the service is a hit or miss. I enjoyed last night and the service was very attentive, however other times I have been there and it has been less than stellar. The thing that draws me back to this place is the price of the food for the quality. Last night’s meal: 20 wings medium, 2 Hawaiian burgers and a swiss and mushroom burger(cooked medium rare exactly, which is very exciting because some places WILLNOT do this), a salad and 6 beers(2 per person). Total $ 65.00. I felt the wings were a bit overpriced but they were still very delicious. Atmosphere is very casual and you can play quick draw and such here. Now if this place could just kick up the service a notch, I feel that they could have substantially more business!!!

I haven’t eaten at the Grogge Shoppe in a year or two, but I used to live near Erie Blvd. and ate there quite often with my roommate. If anything, you need to go get a beer and sit at the bar. The interior is very dark, and somewhat strange as there are tons of plants in this place that somehow seem to thrive in the darkness. The décor is also somewhat bizarre. The food, ahh — the food. Well I actually braved a Burrito here once and it wasn’t very good. The standard bar faire is pretty good though. Burgers are decent, though I seem to remember mind overcooked once or twice(anything further than medium-rare on a burger and it’s toast IMO). The wait staff is usually pretty friendly, and the prices aren’t too shabby. Grogge Shoppe is definitely a good place to grab some quick eats and a few beers. The bar crowd here also seems to be a little older than the other bars close-by(Clinton’s Ditch). So if you’re like me — old, and thirsty on a Friday or Saturday night, this might be a good option.
