I’ve noticed a decrease in quality from Golden Bird in recent years. No matter how much I emphasize«extra spicy» General Tso’s, I get the white girl special(not spicy at all). The egg drop soup was my favorite at this place, but in the last year or so it’s morphed from actual soupy soup to a yellow gelatinous blob of nasty. The pupu platter was a huge disappointment with soggy, greasy shrimp toast and bone dry spare ribs. That said, the combo platters can be decent depending what you get. Sesame chicken or chicken and broccoli are solid choices. Their fried rice and egg rolls are delicious. I wish they’d up their game on the rest of their dishes.

Been ordering from this place for almost 20 years and I never will again. Had ordered some crab rangoon, boneless ribs, soup, and an order of General Tso’s chicken for supper for me and my husband. The ribs and rangoon were ok, the soup was tasteless the wonton was weird. The Gen Tso’s was drowning in watery and tasteless sauce. Having been a long time customer I thought — I am going to call and see what they can do for us. The owner who answered the phone told me that there was nothing they could do except offer me credit for next time. I said I would rather have another order now as it was our dinner plan for tonight. I was told that it would take over an hour for them to get it to me — I said no offense sir, but if I hung up and called in another order you would have it here within 30 minutes — just like the last one, and every other order we have ever placed from you — but somehow it takes over an hour to remake something that we are not satisfied with? I said you go ahead and make that 2nd order, then shove it up your ass. Because we will not ever order from you again. Seems to me they would rather lose a longtime customer then to remake a $ 10 dish — well I would rather take my money elsewhere… there is never any excuse to be rude or to lie to a customer to get out of replacing a meal that you screwed up to begin with.

I stopped for lunch at Golden Bird Chinese Restaurant, which is located in the Socha Plaza. This is a typical strip plaza Chinese takeout place, order at the counter(kitchen area visible) and a few tables for eating in. Delivery is offered(min $ 15(lunch)/$ 20(dinner)), limited area. They serve up over 130 Chinese dishes and items, as well as 31 Luncheon Specials($ 5.05-$ 6.05) served with pork fried rice and 23 Special Combination Plates($ 7.45-$ 8.85) served with egg roll & pork fried rice. I noticed they offered chow ho fun noodles(thick) on the menu and I almost ordered some. However, I decided on Luncheon Special L7 Roast Pork Lo Mein($ 5.05) with pork fried rice and a Shrimp Egg Roll($ 1.60), which was ready in under 10 minutes after ordering. The portion of hot food was appropriate for a filling lunch. The lo mein dish had plenty of Chinese cabbage, onions, sprouts, and thick strips of roast pork with firm noodles, a bit greasy, but good. The pork fried rice(yellow) was light tasting which had chopped fried onions, sprouts, and chunks of roast pork(a few fat pieces). The shrimp egg roll was decent, which was not greasy and filled with shredded cabbage and baby shrimp, though the egg roll could’ve used a little more cabbage filling. Overall, the food and service were good on this recent visit to Golden Bird. 3.5 stars CLOSED on Sundays
