Just went here with my husband. I really wanted to love this place, as it’s just within walking distance of our house, but we will never be eating from here again. It looks like a crappy strip mall place on the inside, but I wanted to be won over, especially considering how cheap the sooner specials are. It took over two minutes from the time we were sitting at a table for someone to come out to acknowledge us– I timed it. The water that was brought out was not cold, and the glasses only half filled. They were unwilling to substitute steamed rice for fried, even for an extra charge, or allow me to order beef & broccoli, even though they had chicken & broccoli and beef & green pepper/peapods– first time I’ve ever heard someone at a Chinese place tell me no!(This leads me to believe their specials are frozen and reheated.) They screwed up my husband’s order, then asked him if he’d eat it anyway. There were no knives on the table. They brought our food out at different times. I had the orange chicken, the it didn’t have the right flavor: WAY too much sauce, and the only place I’ve ever seen serve with celery and green pepper, not broccoli. My husband had the Mongolian chicken, which was mostly green onions with some v overcooked chicken. The egg rolls and crab Rangoons were so fried as to be uncomfortable to eat. Maybe if we’d ordered this place takeout I’d be more forgiving, but the food is bland, the ambiance is nonexistent, and the service wasn’t good at all, though it was quick.

I’ve been here twice in a month. The first time it was a 5-star visit with the best Peking noodles I’ve had since Yu’s Mandarin. For those not in the know, these are a Chinese Korean noodle dish with a pork-based black bean sauce. The sauce was rich and the noodles were cooked just right. The most recent visit the same dish was not quite the same. The sauce was not as rich, a bit watery actually. We also had the Korean version of sweet and sour which was too sweet and the pieces of battered and fried pork were very small. My son also ordered his favorite — orange chicken — and said the chicken was over-fried. The seating area is small, but most of the business seems to run on carry out. Several folks came in to pick up their orders during both of my visits keeping the very friendly, efficient waitress busy between making sure our group of 7 was doing alright and getting carry out orders ready. If you eat in, they offer free hot tea with the meal as well as a small cup of coffee afterwards. Nice touch to stave off food coma! I’ll be back, confident the watery sauce was a fluke.

I always go to China House whenever I’m craving some Korean Black Bean Noodles. Hands down, best Jajangmyun in Chicagoland! The owners went on a brief vacation a few months ago, and my husband and I went through withdrawal. It was pretty bad on our end, but I’m glad they were able to get some rest to make some more kickin’ entrees. They also have great tangsooyook, a fried battered beef lathered in sweet and tangy sauce with cooked veggies. We often order for pick up — one Jajangmyun and one Tangsooyuk to share. The portions are pretty generous, so we always have a great meal.

Great place; great food; great service. Jjajangmyun and jjampong taste great, these two dishes are comparable to, if not tastier than any of the other higher-end korean-chinese places around the Chicago-metro area. I usually get the half and half to get the best of both for an economical price.

Food was delicious, jajjangmyeon on point. Waitresss was super friendly and recommended a vinegar and soy mix for our chicken which made for a very tasty combo. Inexpensive but definitely not lacking in taste. Really nothing but a happy experience.

Ordered a Combination Fried Rice, Egg Rolls and Large Sweet n Sour soup. Combination fried rice was most rice it lacked flavor and salt. Egg Rolls were super grease was missing meat component and Sweet n Sour soup tasted like water mixed with egg it was disgusting. Worst experience eating Chinese food ever. I’m sad to write this but it’s the absolute truth I would stay away or try and be a witness to what I’m talking about.

PROs: Friendly staff, Inexpensive menu, Delicious food, Korean dish available CONs: Small dining area The CON is not much a big of a deal because their food is AMAZING! And their customer service is GREAT! I went here mainly for the korean dish and for the price, it’s unbeatable. I’ve ordered take-out and they gave me extra noodles in my order(Jajangmyun) and a hot tea while I wait. I would be glued to their korean tv channel that would be playing on the background while I wait for my order lol. I would literally drive out 45 minutes just to eat from China House.

General Tso’s Chicken that I had ordered was just a sticky gloppy mess, was not spicy has it should be either had some egg rolls that tasted like a fried toilet paper tube. Wasn’t what I had expected. Next day General Tso fought back and won that battle… Non-low price and lengthy wait but they will give you some tea to drink and a couple magazines to read while waiting I don’t think it’s worth it to to return.

Since last year this is the only Chinese restaurant I order from! Their food’s really good and to top it off the prices are cheap! I also love that they have korean dishes. The people that works there are so nice!

This place is GREAT!!! I found it when I had gone to Marella’s Cucina, only to learn it had closed :( So…I love Chinese, remembered seeing this and decided to give it a shot. First night, I had Pepper Steak-aka Beef with peppers — but :(no tomatoes. Delicious, reminded me of Yu’s… But…that night-there was an issue with my leg-asked and learned that they use Oyster Sauce. Now, I have never been«officially» diagnosed as being allergic to any type of seafood… I just have never liked it. And NEVEREVER will! (had to get that out-for all those who have told me that I don’t know what I’m missing or that I’d grow out of it). But, myyyy, it was good. I had another taste the very next night-asked the very nice girl about the oyster sauce and she confirmed my suspicion. Anyway…delicious… Great service, very yummy food… Schaumburg DOES have great Chinese Food restaurants…

Fate– don’t want to go here again. Had stomach ache twice, one after eating meal and one after eating leftover. Sz8– doesn’t mind the shrimp noodles. Didn’t get sick from it. For the non-low price and the extremely long wait(though they have tea & magazines to make the wait more pleasant), don’t think it’s worth to return.

I came here with Laura N. and Alicia K. for the awesome $ 5.95 lunch special. It came with egg drop soup(which was a bit tasteless), and egg roll(yummy and I don’t usually like egg rolls!), rice, entrée, and a lemon tea(a great way to warm up on a chilly winter day). We decided to dine in since the lunch special does not come with soup or tea if you do carry out and as I mentioned before these were necessary to warm up! I ordered the Kung Pao Beef with no peanuts on top. It was yummy and spicy, but they put a lot of celery and water chestnuts in it so I had to pick some out. As I mentioned before the soup was lacking so I had to add some salt and pepper to the mix! I did like that you could order the food without MSG since I get horrible migraines from it! The interior of the restaurant is definitely a take out place. It is plain and cold looking. But as I mentioned before you have to dine in for the soup! I also was turned off by the fact that there was no bathroom. Luckily, I didn’t have to go… but with tea you never know! The lady working was super friendly and wasn’t bothered by my special dietary requests(ie no peanuts and no MSG). They do not take Discover Card. I would probably rate them higher for carry out services!

Pros: + sweet, friendly woman working. + reasonably priced lunch specials: $ 5.95 for soup, egg roll, rice, and entrée. + egg rolls were surprisingly good! + good somethingandLemon tea. + perfect portions! + small and quiet. + orange slices and fortune cookies after meal. Cons: — cannot substitute tofu for chicken lunch specials. — vegetables delight is the only vegetarian lunch special option and it was absolutely tasteless. I was confused and disappointed. — egg rolls have meat in them(is this common? I didn’t know that). how ironic that they give me a meaty egg roll with a vegetarian dish. — the oranges didn’t have flavor either. The meal probably makes or breaks your experience — my coworkers/friends/fellow Unilocalers enjoyed their meals. I did not. I also have a bit of a cold so perhaps that affected my taste buds. I would consider coming back only for my lunch break, but the the non-lunch specials were kind of pricey and I prefer other places.

China House is amazing — go at lunch time! The lady working is super duper nice and parking is abundant. They have lunch specials at a great price but their Korean style Chinese food is really where it’s it. Problem is the menu is ALL in Korean for this section, no translation. So you have to be Korean or be with someone Korean to decipher what’s on the menu. I was telling my friend today at lunch that it’s a shame they don’t have English translations. I’m sure they would have more business if they did because their Korean style stuff is fantastic! I shared the Beef Tang Soo Yok(Korean style sweet & sour) with my friend for lunch today… the portion is just the right size for two people to share. The sauce is much lighter in flavor and density than the standard sweet and sour you’re used to from Chinese restaurants. It douses all of the meat completely, no skimping on sauce here. The meat is soft and perfectly cooked with perfect breading. The breading is ever so slightly less dense than the normal which makes it feel slightly less fattening. To top it all off, this dish has sliced, soft apples soaked in the sauce. Such a nice surprise and a great way to spice the dish up! Bring someone Korean and go to China House! Or bring some cool translator that can snap a photo of text and then translate, bam!

For those in the know, Chicago has a lot of Chinese restaurants that are owned by Koreans — China House is one of them. There is a list of common dishes written in Korean that typically aren’t listed on the normal English menu. The dishes can be described as Chinese with a Korean influence. We ordered the sweet and spicy fried shrimp(kan poong seh woo) and the black bean/peking noodles(jja jjang myun). The shrimp were large and crispy. There was more breading in comparison to other places but it was still good. The noodles were okay but for only $ 6.95, I wasn’t complaining. Even though Yu’s Mandarin and Chef Ping are my favorite places for Chinese Korean cuisine in the area, it was great to enjoy a quiet dinner without the long wait, fancy interior, and added costs. For the two of us, the total bill was only $ 21. I’ll be back for takeout. I know it sounds odd but go to China House and order off the Korean menu for something new.

I love Chinese take-out so when I heard this place was cheap, and in my area I knew I had to try it. I got the chicken in garlic sauce lunch special which came with fried rice and an egg roll. The total was $ 6.60. The food was just alright and the portion was pretty small. Fried rice was one scoop and the main entrée was lacking in the chicken area. Everything was still flavorful though. When I went to eat the egg roll, I noticed all of the grease/oil that had dripped off of it. Upon further inspection, the garlic sauce for the main entrée was pretty greasy too. I would have preferred to have an extra helping of the fried rice instead of an egg roll. The food was decent but I don’t think I would go out of my way to stop here again.

Ordered egg foo young and tofu family style for carry out. Both were excellent. I appreciated the 4 veggie potstickers on the house. Downsides were the long wait on the day we ordered and the fact that the egg foo young patties were smaller than average. The gravy was different – a dark-colored mushroom-flavored gravy – but I really liked it. Will be back.

We’ve been looking for a new chinese spot because we moved to a different part of Schaumburg and we gave this place a try on NYE before going out. The most basic thing one can order — fried rice — was just awful and was very dark. Maybe they burned it a bit? The crab rangoons were tiny and lacked crab, cream cheese, and«rangoon»…whatever that is. Ordered a few entrees: General Tso’s chicken and chicken and shrimp w/water chestnuts. The Tso’s was okay — sweet and spicy, and the shrimp in the other meal was doable. IDK, I just wasn’t as pleased with this spot as I was with my old spot, China 1(check my review). This place doesn’t even deliver. Guess I’ll keep looking…

I don’t go here for the Chinese food, which is your typical variety of choices. What really stands out here is their Korean style Chinese food, as the place is Korean owned. Very good jja jang myun(black bean noodes) and probably one of the best places I’ve been to for beef tang soo yok(Korean style sweet & sour beef — they don’t serve it with pork). The pieces of beef in the tang soo yok are very crispy and the sauce is really good. The sauce also has thinly sliced apples in it, which I’ve never seen before. At the end of the meal they also serve complimentary korean tea or milk coffee. Prices are reasonable and the Korean/Chinese style food is awesome. Pro Tip: The food is much better during the day, since there’s a different cook at night.
