Pine Point Fisherman’s Co-Op

I walked into Pine Point with high expectations. I was excited to purchase my first lobsters and take them home to cook for a special dinner. I immediately noticed a lack of lobster when walking in. We were informed that it was still pre-​season [July 2^nd visit] and that fishermen weren’t going out a lot yet and the catch was light. They had no soft shell lobster in stock yet either (which was fine with me since at the moment I didn’t know the difference). We gave the employee our price range for four lobsters and he was immediately discouraging that they could accommodate it. I must admit I was confused because the prices were listed and seemed like it should be work-​able.
The employee was honest about our price range but still offered to look in the back for medium lobster, again their stock was sparse but apparently they were hiding out lobsters behind the scenes. He said with another $ 10 he could fulfill our order. He brought out four beautiful lobsters and everything looked great, until he range it up and it was $ 17 above our price range. Since we were already shelling out the dough, this was more then we could budget for the final amount and negotiations couldn’t be made. We ended up having to walk away, not because of the service or product, but the price range. What puts Pine Point at a two star for me is that we drove down the street to Bayley’s and were able to purchase four beautiful lobsters exactly at our price range, they had the same exact price per pound listed that Pine Point had and a much wider selection. Add to that absolutely over the top excellent customer service. I respect co-op’s in general but I really don’t know if Pine Point is being honest with their customers.

We vacationed in Maine in October 2010 and stayed in Old Orchard Beach and this place we recommended to us by the local residents. I’m not a fan of seafood, but this place was phenomenal. There is a small restaurant in the back that does not disappoint. Worth seeking out if you’re in the area.
