Where do I start? The bacon cheeseburger I ordered had the most amazing bun ! They have strawberry lemonade. The only downside was the super loud atmosphere.

I recently worked with an out of town crew that needed a meal for 30. This is a big request already, but it was also very last minute and we needed it the very next day. When I called and spoke to varsity about this they were very helpful and even worked with me to provide for the special dietary restrictions we had within our crew. I believe I worked with Mary(please forgive me if this is incorrect, I have lost the paper with all of the contact info) and she was so amazingly kind and did everything in her power to help us out. The whole team at varsity worked quickly to provide for us. Our crew was well fed and happy after this meal and I am very appreciative of the meal varsity provided for us.

If you’re looking for a place to watch a game that is clean and the staff pleasant, go here. If you are looking for quality food that isn’t over prized, this isn’t the place. I’ve tried about everything on the menu and it’s all blah. Nothing to write home about. The food is very over priced and the food is no better than a super market deli. My husband swears the wings are the best so I’m forced to go there so he can get his fix. Although, after my last experience there when I ate the burger and saw the price attached to it, I told my husband to get it to go… I’m done giving it a chance. Sorry Varsity I tried to stand by you over the years, but your quality as decreased while your prizes have increased…

Descent food but horrible service. We quit coming here when the started charging for BBQ sauce. They quit carrying A-1 and I don’t eat catsup. They charged me for a side of BBQ sauce. This time we came in and two other tables that came in after us were served first. The server never came by to refill our water. The water tastes nasty which means they don’t filter the water at all. The quality has really gone downhill over the years. I probably won’t be back. I’ve been disappointed too many times.

Went here for breakfast, service was good & food was ok. Nothing amazing, but for what you pay the food wasn’t a rip off. Had a delicious Bloody Mary! Would definitely go back for that. Was pretty disappointing that they didn’t have steak knives to give out with food — I had eggs Benny, which was quite a challenge to cut up with my dull butter knife. I’m really confused on how big of a cheapskate an owner has to be in order to not have the proper utensils to give to their customers — the main part of a restaurant is eating, can’t expect happy customers if you don’t provide them with the proper utensils necessary to eat!

I’ve waited to right a review with hopes things would get better/change for the better. They have only gotten worse. The place looks nice inside… The staff has always been timely. THEFOOD: I’ve had many items from Varsity… Tacos, Chicken(Don’t get me Started!!!), Nachos, salads and burgers. So most of the menu. Where to begin?! Tacos: as an earlier post said«there’s only about a tablespoon or two of meat in each for $ 12!!! Not to mention the quality of the seasoning/spice/salsa. There’s nothing hard about making a taco taste good! Chicken: Oh Boy!!! Smallest portions I’ve seen at any restaurant ever. They said«They cut the chicken in ½ to make 3 oz. portions. A chicken sandwich for $ 10-$ 12 with ½ a chicken breast?! WTF! I so want to support a local business, I just can’t when I don’t get anything of quality. Nacho’s: We’ve shared the BIG Nacho’s! Like the tacos, VERY little meat! Very little flavor! It’s just a bag of chips(not even good ones at that!) warmed with some cheese, bag guacamole, sour cream and jalapenos. Nothing special at all… Just big. Salads: Anyone can put bag lettuce on a plate and throw toppings on it. But the quality of what goes on a salad should reflect healthy if possible. Frozen fried chicken tenders tossed in Franks Redhot sauce. Again, Quality is missing in everything on the menu! You should be able to go to Cash & Carry and buy everything you get from the kitchen. Burgers: Had one last night and that’s the straw that broke this camels back, so to speak. It was likely the worst tasting meat I’ve ever put in my mouth!!! No seasonings what so ever. Even Bacon didn’t cover up the poor quality patties. With quality(there’s that word again!) meat you don’t have to season it much at all. A little salt and pepper and cooked moderately well and it should taste great. When a Box of burger meat gets tossed on a grill/flat top, it tastes like Crap! If you order a burger here, make damn sure you get it with lots of sauce to cover up the low quality(there it is again!) meat. Finally the BEER: How could you go wrong with BEER? Let’s start with glass size… I call them glasses because they are not PINTS, as the price might lead you to believe at $ 4.50 each. The Beer wasn’t pouring so I was offered the same beer in a bottle. Who the Heck has the same beer in a bottle as what you have on tap?! Well Varsity does. I know, sometimes people with amazing pallets like it in a bottle. But quality(there’s that word again!) Micro’s do not need a bottle, but here they do. And Why you ask? Because the tap doesn’t pour efficiently enough to get a «GLASS» full in a timely fashion. For each beer they pour, roughly 2 beers worth of foam goes down the drain. No I’m not joking what so ever!!! My server asked«Do you mind if I give you a bottle? The tap isn’t pouring very well». Well sure, I’ll take a bottle… It should be less expensive because it’s not a Pint, Right?! Nope, it was the same price and filled my glass the same amount as if I’d been given beer from the tap! In conclusion, will I go back? I might go get a «Glass» of beer with friend to watch a game. I might order something fried to snack on. That’s it!!! No more thinking this place has real food to offer in Scappoose! Sorry, I’ve tried. I’ve heard many people suggest Ideas to the staff and manager/owner. Nothings

Service was excellent! The food was average and the vodka/rockstars were $ 7.50/each. Paid more than we thought we should for an off the highway pub. A couple drinks, an app and two meals came to $ 75.

Every place deserves a second chance. And we’ve stopped here twice for lunch. The hamburgers and wings were cooked perfectly. Crisp bacon, tangy bleu cheese, crisp fries. The kitchen seems to produce better when it’s not slammed. Wait staff/bartender equally on task. Hubby likes the wings and chili, our granddaughter likes the fries… But she’s three and even eats them cold. This is an ok lunch stop in a little town that lacks choices beyond fast food joints. I’ll have another g&t…yep the foods not bad…

Went into Varsity to grab a quick meal on our way back to Vancouver. There was sports on the TV’s which is always a plus. There were 4 of us. One had the blue cheese burger, he said it was good. Another had fish and chips, nice size serving and she said it was tasty. Another had club sandwich, big sandwich without the(annoying 3rd) piece of bread in the middle. Then there was my order. I ordered the two-fer tacos. It was 4 tacos, 2 fish and 2 steak for $ 12.99. When it came to the table it was just that, 4 tacos, no sides of rice or chips. When I began to eat I quickly realized that all that was in the tacos was lettuce with a few crumbs of meat. There was not even a tablespoon of meat in any of the tacos. I wanted to show the waitress but she never came back after we got our food. Pretty disappointing, 4 lettuce tacos for $ 12.99. I would steer clear of the tacos for sure. On a side note, beware when you ask for ranch you will be charged $.49, seems a little cheep with the prices they are charging.

You know I purposely waited a few days before I decided to write my review for this establishment because when I left I was really angry and wanted to give myself a few days to «cool off» before I wrote possibly a review I might later regret. First of all I realize how tough the restaurant business is – it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make a name for yourself in this business. Secondly, when I got to a restaurant for a meal I don’t expect 5 stars every time I sit down for a meal. But I do expect the following: 1. The place be clean. 2. The staff to be kind and customer service oriented. 3. The food to be edible and hot food served hot and cold food served cold. 4. If I order Calamari to be served Calamari not«Chicken fries» that are passed off as Calamari. 5. Some sort of manager or owner to be on site in case there is an issue who can make decisions for the establishment. 6. Be prepared to make the wrong right — either make a new dish or refund money for food that is not edible. 7. Above all be fair and LISTEN to the customer when there is a complaint. 8. Last but not least have some integrity. I don’t think those things are too much to ask or expect as a restaurant. In return I will: 1. Be polite, respectful and considerate to the staff. 2. Ask questions about the things on the menu I need clarification about. 3. When asked if I need a minute to look over the menu be honest and say yes if I need time and don’t make my server stand around for 5 minutes while I peruse the menu. That is all about being respectful to the server. 4. If something doesn’t taste okay — be considerate and reasonable in regards to the complaint. 5. If there are any questions about the bill ask about them promptly. 6. Even if the food wasn’t up to snuff but the service was great don’t rip off the server by being stingy with a tip — I always always tip at least 20% on a bill even if the food isn’t grand. 7. Have integrity and listen to my server, under respect the fact my server is a person first and my server second — not a slave or an indentured SERVANT. 8. Always remember to say thank you. My experience with Varsity Grill was just plain icky. And here’s why: We arrived and it wasn’t terribly crowded. There was the football crowd mainly in the bar, two tables seated above the bar in the restaurant section. A long table in the back with balloons that said clearly RESERVED. One of the servers said to us «Seat yourselves where you are most comfortable.» So we selected the table we always select which was right in front of the long reserved table. We had no longer been seated and looking at the menu when another server said — «Oh well could you please move, this table even though its not reserved is for this other large group that is coming in so they can ALL sit together.» Not wanting to make a stink — I said«Okay, sure» So we picked up our menus and water and moved four tables down. We were seated and ordered, deep fried calamari, a bowl of chili, a cup of chicken soup, a hamburger, and a French dip for the table — there were three of us. The calamari were actually chicken fries — I swear to God. They were not any calamari I’d have ever seen — and they tasted like chicken. The cup of chicken noodle soup was so salty it wasn’t edible. It was as if someone poured salt into the soup. The Chili was sugary sweet as if there was cups of sugar added — that was inedible. The hamburger wasn’t seasoned at all. And the French dip — the roast beef was literally like rubber. We tried to eat — and ate about a quarter of the hamburger, and French Dip. We left the soup, and Chili. The Chicken Fries were edible. It didn’t take long for us to realize we just needed to cut our losses talk to the manager or owner, give feedback and go home. I approached the bar and asked if the manager was around — Nope — no manger I was told. I then asked if the owner was around — Nope the owner wasn’t around either. I explained my situation to one of the servers and she said she’s go back in the kitchen to see what she could do. A few minutes later she appeared and said«I can offer you a dessert to go for free. But other than that I can’t do anything for you.» I looked at her and said«Really? Even for the food that was inedible?» She said again«I am sorry there is nothing I can do for you.» So I paid my 31.76 bill(I think it was that much) — and I left ZERO for the tip, and I told her as I left that they had lost three customers. And we left. Oh and the big table reserved for the big party — they never showed and I watched two other couples who were told«Sit where you’d like» sit at our original table and asked to move. WTF?! Really?! I liked this place much better when it was a pizza place. Never ever going back — not if its the last restaurant on the planet. I wish I could give it zero stars or negative stars.

Stop by here when we were looking for houses and it was actually pretty good. Not to sure about the Sports bar aspect of it, since we were there for lunch and no game was one. But looking at the TV’s it seems it would be fun. I really wanted Chili Cheese Fries and it was not on the menu, but the waitress was so nice and said she would make some up for us. The Chili was amazing!!! I could have eaten a tub of it. My fiancé and his cousin had the burgers and they looked good. They must have not been to bad because they ate them all. We also got the wings and the fry on them was great, though they seemed a little chewy, but it could have just been those 2 wings because the rest were fine. Overall I give it a 4?! You ask why not a 5 because the food was good, service great, place was nice. This is because I must go more then once for a 5 star. I assume since we are moving a block away from the place we will be there again and I doubt I will have a complaint. Thanks Varsity for good food and service. :)

Came here for Monday Night Football, and was only drinking, so cannot comment on the food — although it did smell pretty good whenever it passed by. The Varsity has a pretty good selection of beers on tap, including several NW micros. The service is also friendly, and the place is clean, which easily makes Varsity the nicest place to watch a game in Scappoose. No need to get up to date on your vaccinations before coming here, like you would want to do before heading to a couple of the establishments a bit further down the road.

We’ve been here a couple times(my husband has family and friends in the ‘Poose), and I always leave with the same reaction: that was all right, but HOWMUCH did I just spend on it?! The food tastes good, and the portions are fair, but it’s not worth the prices they charge. You also have the little tacked-on fees, like opting for a side salad instead of french fries. I hate being punished for trying to be a little healthier. The atmosphere is fun and casual, somewhere you could take your friends or in-laws alike. The staff is also friendly and accommodating. It’s just overpriced for what is essentially bar food.

Great atmosphere, and plenty of televisions to catch the game you came to see. The staff is always very friendly and prompt. They’ll go above service, and actually have conversations with you. Very cordial! The menus are cute! They’re classic Pee Chee folders, adding to the sports theme the owner has placed for his son, Derek Anderson(player for the Arizona Cardinals and Scappoose native). The food is greasy, but I did have their fish tacos off the appetizer menu as an entrée, and it was very fresh and tasty. As far as drinks, they have a nice selection of beers on tap, and their pineapple drop on the cocktail menu is fabulous! One time we went just to have a drink at the bar. The bartender was very nice, and quite enjoyable to talk with. I asked for a gin martini(not brand specific, since bartenders usually follow up with«what kind?»). She did not, and made me one from the well gin. It was rather nasty gin, but drank it anyways. I did ask for a second, but specified Tanqueray. She then said, «Sure! I prefer Tanqueray anyways. I don’t like the well gin, either. It actually gives me a headache when I drink it.» Okay…then why did you just serve it to me if it’s something you wouldn’t even have yourself? I wish they would update their website(as far as hours are concerned). They say they’re open until 11pm, and we showed up once at 10:15 and they were cleaning for the evening. The door said 10:30, so we didn’t even go inside.
