I’ve been coming to Longfellow’s for a very long time and I have always been very pleased with the food and the service. I’m only writing this review after having issues the past two times I’ve been here. Last time I bit into my salad to find something that appeared to be small chicken bones, I couldn’t identify for sure what it was, but it was small pieces of something inedible that should not have been there! I showed the waitress and she took my plate away. I could see into the kitchen area where she was talking with the owner. I had just started my salad when this happened and I really did not feel like going and getting more as you can imagine. The service was so slow I waited forever for her to bring a bill, nothing was ever said about the incident and the owner failed to talk to me about it when he was right there and had the chance to at least apologize. I went back again today and had no problems with the food but the service was absolutely terrible. My drink was never refilled, I sat there a very long time waiting for my bill. This was middle of the afternoon I was the only one in the restaurant, but the waitress was very busy socializing with the people at the bar. They also have a way of running a credit card right at your table with a small device which actually calculates a choice of tips to choose from while the waitress stands there & watches your choice — how rude is that??? I don’t think I’m going to be very quick at coming back!

I’ve always loved Longfellows, for the food as well as the rustic environment. The last two times here however weren’t ideal. A few months ago I stopped to get some to-go food. A sandwich and the salad bar… When I got home(Portland) and started eating my salad I found a very long dark hair mixed in the salad. I understand things happen but I lost my appetite. The second, last Saturday night. I was out with friends, ordered a burger. Before I even took a bite I cut it in half, only to find a blonde hair in my food. Maybe just really bad luck on my part, twice, or maybe they need to be more aware of their cleanliness. Either way not dying to go back. After telling the waitress what had happened, she grabbed the plate with no apology and took it into the kitchen to dissect my food(I think to make sure I wasn’t lying??). I could see her and another bartender discussing the situation and their body language made me uncomfortable, as it was all directly in front of me. My table was the round one in front of the door. No apology, not even a smile, just a comment to the other gal as she came out of the kitchen about me not wanting anything else. OK, thanks!

The food here is amazing! I am super picky about my halibut. They did not disappoint. I stole a few bites of my husband’s steak. It was fantastic! My son had the chili burger, he was impressed. Our server was also the chef, she did a great job. I watched her go from table to table and back to the grill, never missing a beat! The building itself is dark. No windows. Which bothered me at first. The world could have been coming to an end outside and I would not have known. The grill is in the middle of the room, so you can watch your meal being cooked. I am glad we stopped in, though. I originally gave 4 stars, but upgraded to 5.

Best rib eye in town! I always go here when I’m craving a good steak. Usually the service is great but one time I had a server(possibly new) who I had to give my steak back 3 times before it was cooked properly. Besides that I’ve always had good service & great food.

Nice place simple menu with great steaks + a nice all you can eat salad bar. Unique grill in the center of the dining room and attached bar. Has a inviting atmosphere with friendly staff but definitely a local’s establishment. Limited seating and menu.

Ye old dive and steakhouse! Cool little restaurant bar with an interesting history survived the towns 1915 fire because it was the only building made out of brick. I was told it’s haunted but didn’t see the ghost I had a T-bone steak with all the salad bar you can handle. So load up on the veggies. The T-bone steak was done right grilled in the center of the dinning area . I couldn’t even finish it.

Our Friday night spot with friends! Our favorite servers work here and some of our favorite people to visit with go here! The steak sandwich is 100% amazing 100% of the time. Salad bar is always fresh and good and it is a lucky place to drop a couple dollars into the poker machine! We usually leave here happy, full and with more money than we came with! Don’t ever change Longfellows… we love you!

We had burgers instead of steaks and they were quite good. It was certainly a place that catered to locals(at least in the afternoon when we were there).

This is one of the very few places we eat in Scappoose and I’ll keep coming back. Here is what I love/recommend: salad bar(a must), burger, pizza(not everyone may agree but for some odd reason I love them!), steak. The menu is limited as is cooking methods but I love coming here. Geri is always awesome and so friendly, as are the bartenders. There is one young gal that always seems to be doing not much of anything. The salad bar is often left for the servers who are really busy to refill.

Great burger, just like I remembered 25 years ago. Wish they had fries!

A unique half dive bar half steakhouse. You can grill your own meat on a massive grill in the middle of the dining room. Good salad bar too!

Longfellow’s is the perfect place for an awesome steak and delicious salad bar in the atmosphere of somebody’s dark basement. Seriously, this place is dreary. There are no windows and the main entrance spills you right in to the middle of the dining area, so upon your entrance everybody stares at you. But just ignore all of that because their ranch in the salad bar is SOGOOD. I haven’t worked up the nerve to ask what kind it is or to even just run in the back and steal a gallon or two of it, but I really want to. If Jesus cried ranch tears, it would be the ranch Longfellow’s serves. I also love the open grill and have never been disappointed by the food I order. Sometimes ther service is slow but you just deal with it. I think I just talked myself in to going there for dinner tonight.

Went here for lunch and to my surprise it was actually pretty good. We had the Hamburger dip and chicken sandwich. The hamburger was cooked perfectly on the grill right in front of us. Definitely going to go back for dinner and try their steak. The open grill is such a great idea and lets me see how my food is being handled. This is a must try if in the area. Looks are deceiving so don’t judge until you try it. :)

Ye Old Longfellows tavern. Technically, I’m pretty sure I’ve been coming here since I was in utero. My parents have been patrons here for over 20 years, and still continue to support this place as they’re reaching retirement. Its ‘the’ meeting place before my dad’s band plays a gig in Columbia Co. And now I can order my very own drink here as an adult! EXCELLENT. This place is famous for its steaks, and additionally, the«cook your own steak» option. But let’s cut the bullshit, and talk about the ultra-fresh salad bar. Seriously. ITCANNOTBEBEAT. It is the first and last salad bar you’ll ever want to visit. First off: fresh rolls, which you(and I do) can toast on the open grill if you’d like. Why wouldn’t you? Second, the salad offerings. Julienned pickled beets, sugar snap peas, sliced cukes, sunflower seeds, trashy yet tasty Reeser’s macaroni salad, and blue cheese crumbles waiting to be dispersed. Those are just the highlights. And if you buy a steak or chicken dinner, you’re allowed to clock in a few trips to the salad bar. Which you will, and no one will judge you. A FEWDRAWBACKS(to be expected): –the bartenders are easily overwhelmed when it’s only«kind of» busy, and get a titch bitchy when you approach them at the bar. That’s to be expected. –It’s a small town, and patrons will automatically know you’re not from Scappoose when you walk into the bar and will continue to stare at you until you leave. Oh well. Nothing a well-placed glare and a fixation on the salad bar and my whiskey can’t fix.

The service is the best in town. Steak done exactly the way you want it, and the salad bar is what a salad bar should be!

Great steak place. Avoid the bar drunks. They really want to fight for some reason. Must be poverty and alcohol. Tables in the bar area are ok tho.

This is a landmark in the small town of Scappoose. This unique establishment offers some of the best food around. Even though the menu isn’t large, their grilled steaks and burgers are great. Add the salad bar and baked potato for a delicious meal. Friendly service with a local flavor. You won’t find anything like it anywhere else.

I’d give this place more or less stars than 3.5, but I don’t know much about their service. The reason for that is that at this establishment, you have the option of cooking your steak yourself on the open grill. It would’ve been nice if they docked a couple bucks off the price, but they don’t which was mildly disappointing. It also would’ve been nice if they had more seasonings for the meat that I could use to season my steak with, but hey you can’t have everything-I settled on tabasco, grey poupon dijon, salt, and pepper. I think they had some lawry’s seasoning salt and garlic powder too I believe but I didn’t bother. They’ve got a bar in the back but I didn’t partake after an afternoon spent chopping wood. Atmosphere was nicely dim and muted, about what I’d want for a steak joint although the salad bar and baked potato were indicative of a lower end establishment like Sizzler. I also wish they had a steak larger than 16oz b/c for a fattie such as myself who’s been working outside that just isn’t enough. On top of that, I wasn’t paying so I couldn’t order 3 of them. I have a sneaking suspicion that their meat was still a little frozen, but it turned out okay outside of the seasonings I didn’t have on hand. I’d definitely come in here again, but I’d want to know how much the salad bar would be without anything else since I’d want to bring in my own 3lb steak. I may as well stay home I can hear y’all saying, to which I reply, «but I wouldn’t get to chop wood in Scappoose, besides, it’s nice to get out of Ptown city proper sometimes to soothe the inner country boy’s cries.»
