Consistently good, not the best I’ve ever had but good solid food.

This is what bbq is all about. Delicious smokey, earthy, meaty ribs, so succulent and sweet. Sylvia and Harlie know what they’re doing and they’re doing it right. Sides are good — dirty rice, Mac and cheese, Coke slaw, corn bread, sweet potato fries — but show me the meat! From the burnt ends to the ribs, absolutely perfectly smoked. Service is so friendly — greeted warmly and personally with no pretense. It’s all about the food.

Best BBQ joint around hands down. They have burnt ends, nuff said. I don’t know of another place around here that serves up these tiny nuggets of deliciousness. They were tremendous and the brisket was ridiculously good. The service was attentive and friendly. I will definitely be back… this place is a must visit

Excellent BBQ at this place. My dad heard about this place from a newspaper or a posting or something, so my whole family went tonight. It doesn’t look like much from the inside, there were a few tables, small parking lot, a TV playing cable, but once you get to the food, that all changes. The portions are very generous, and the waitress recommended many great items such as brisket, yams, and«dirty rice» which is rice with sausage and some amazing spices. I would be very happy to have a party catered by this restaurant or find it at my next tailgate! See you soon Harlie!

Best barbecue around — the ribs are crazy good — the brisket to die for — and the chicken breast was outstanding, not to mention the sides of mac and cheese, dirty rice, & collards all great– the only thing I could say is if u are in a hurry try another nite cause they make things fresh to order– but for me it’s worth the wait–

My husband ordered ribs, dirty rice and baked beans. I ordered brisket with Mac and cheese and collard greens on the side. Then we waited almost 40 minutes for our food. No idea what the problem is there. The waitress was friendly and competent. It seemed everyone in the not that large restaurant was waiting ridiculously long for their food. Then when it finally came out, nothing was hot. My brisket and mac and cheese was ok. The ribs were literally cold. As if they had come out of a refrigerator and not tender at all. I’m scratching my head at the other positive reviews on here too.

THISPLACE. Wow. This place does the most awesome barbecue, and we just had the most awesome dinner! We went as a group of four to check this place out and ordered the deluxe meal(or something like that), which covers 4 meats and 4 sides. For a really affordable price, we got more than enough ribs, pulled pork, chicken, brisket, sweet potato fries, potato salad, collard greens, and dirty rice to stuff us more than full. And it was ALLDELICIOUS. I’ve definitely never, ever had such amazing brisket before, and I’ve never had dirty rice before, but that’s been proven today to be a completely unacceptable circumstance for anyone anywhere near Big Harlie’s. Everything we ate here was really tasty. And Big Harlie is a lovely, wonderful human being. We loved our visit to this little place. I emphatically recommend eating here if you like bbq meat and good company!

Ribs were delicious, dirty rice was flavorful. If your taking out i suggest calling in your order a head of time, about a 15 – 20 minute wait for your order.

I’ve been to Big Harlie’s twice. I love this«BBQ Joint». It reminds me of the places down south. The smell of smoke, and friendly smiles. It’s nothing like going to Famous Daves, or Texas Road House. This is a small roadside join with about 8 tables. First, the ribs are not the«fall of the bone» kind, but they are good. The brisket sandwich was excellent(not served every day), comes with home made au jus. That’s very different. My wife and friends had the BBQ chicken, and they loved it, and would recommend to anyone coming here. The pulled pork sandwich was very good. All the lunch specials were served with fries. They were good, but not great. The sweet potato pie is EXCELLENT, a must try. It’s served with a chill, so ask them to warm it up, if you prefer. The beans were very good. I recommend them. The collard greens were tender, and exactly what I expected out of this meal. They have bottled water, coke products, Snapple, and Arizona teas. No diet tea this day. I recommend stopping by this place with family and friends, and kick back for a taste of the South

Super casual, but out of the world food. Brisket was über tendor and the greens were smoky and flavorful. If you’re n the mood for bbq and you gotta have it now, know there is something in Sayreville that will knock your socks off!

When we arrived, learned they were sold out of chicken and brisket. I read the good and bad reviews on the ribs and asked the couple next to us what they thought of the ribs. They said they were ok at best. So, I ordered the pulled pork. It seemed slightly cold and ok. Mac and cheese was good. Dirty rice was the best side. Not sure I would go back when I am in Sayreville.

These ribs were by far the best I have ever had in a very, very long time. They were so juicy and delicious. They were the fall of the bone style that you don’t find at any of these chain rib places. Better than Texas Roadhouse, big eds & famous daves. Had the Mac & cheese which was good but nothing in comparison to the ribs. The portions were good size and the price was very reasonable. I am looking forward to going back there again.

I’m so glad this place opened so close to home! I don’t even know where to begin… The ribs were HUGE and DELICIOUS! The pulled pork was fantastic, BBQ chicken was not dry, the collard greens are to die for! The Mac n cheese has a great homemade taste to it. The only thing we didn’t care for(hence the lack of five stars) was the potato salad, potatoes were under cooked and sour, maybe it was just an off day. The restaurant itself isn’t very inviting for dine in but do yourself the favor and pick this up for dinner, you will not be disappointed!
