A nice, quaint little restaurant that I’ve been going to for years. Worth the travel from Pittsburgh for special occasions. The food is always done well, waitstaff friendly and attentive, and not at all expensive. I’ve not had a bad experience there yet in any way. A pleasure to dine there.

Hotel is beautiful, and food looks great. Place is clearly for locals, as we couldn’t get the time of day. Before I could order a round of beers, the bartender had to make sure everyone else with a full drink was doing alright. As we sat waiting for 25 minutes, I watched three tables of our size sit empty. As we walked out of the bar, the hostess chased us down informing us that our table was ready. Great place if they know you, pass if they don’t.

Horrible business. I booked every room at this hotel for my wedding night. When we got to the hotel around 1130 after a long and crazy day these people locked up the hotel. No one was there. No one answered the phone. Judy, the hotel manager, promised me that she would have staff there for my bride and me when we arrived. She broke that promise and left us to sit on a bench in a tux and a wedding dress in the middle of the night. We also had a few close friends and family members staying here and they too were out of place to sleep. I would never stay or recommend this sad excuse of a business to friends or enemies. They refunded my money but never called to apologize or try to make up for their lack of professioalism.

Cozy yet elegant. A delicious daily special list as massive as the core menu. Bubbling crocks of savory french onion soup and lobster bisque. Foie gras bread pudding. Crab stuffed sea bass drizzled with hollandaise. Chocolate peanut pie as light and fluffy as whipped cream clouds. Old world style recipes and hospitality with American sized portions.

Such a charming old hotel in a picturesque little town. The hotel exudes history and personality. The old wood floors have a ton of character. There’s a hotel register signed by Calvin Coolidge or Woodrow Wilson, or some such president. Now to the food. First, don’t take your child to the Saxonburg Hotel, it’s not that kind of place. There’s nothing on the dinner menu for kids, and nothing under $ 16. I had the ribs, which were tender but not sauced much. I moved here from KC, so I know what good BBQ ribs are supposed to be about. These ribs were decent, but lacked flavor. The fries were good and the service was great. This is the kind of place to go for a date night or anniversary, not a night out with the family.

Took my wife there for her birthday, since she has never been there. Service was excellent, lobster bisque had a lot of meat and quite good, my wife had the french onion soup and she stated it was the best she has ever had, salads are similar to «Mikes Salad» at Ditkas restaraunt(good thing) with the starters being so good we believed our entrees would be just as good, boy were we let down, the Cajun fried chicken was so greasy it would give you acne just looking at it. I got the 12oz ribeye, what a shame, call me a steak snob, but what have a ribeye that is only ½ in thick? What not go 1 ½ or 2 inch and make it more of a medallion? Asked for it to be medium, came back well done.

Recently enjoyed a good birthday dinner here. Staff was friendly and attentive, and the ambience was more genteel than the rural norm in the area. My well made vodka martini was followed by a descent glass of wine. The lobster bisque was one of the best I’ve had. I prefer a mint sauce to the mint jelly that was served, but the New Zealand rack of lamb was so nicely seasoned that it didn’t need either. Entrees include a fresh salad with many homemade dressing choices(or soup with a nominal cost markup) and a choice of one of several side dishes. I’m likely going to be a new regular at Saxonburg Hotel.

Nice old style place and interesting menu. But ultimately an uneven experience for us. My husband’s Virginia spots were excellent, but my crab cakes more filler than crab. The turtle soup was great and full of meaty bits, but my vegetables were served almost raw — not nicely al dente, but raw. The waiter was knowledgable and friendly, but decided he would substitute a higher priced glass of wine than the one we ordered. When we questioned the bill he said he forgot to mention it. Excuse me?! Overall, not a totally awful experience, but we’re not eager to return.
