If you haven’t been to Triptych yet, you are missing out. This place has some of the best craft beers I’ve ever tasted, and I have been to my fair share of craft breweries. Come here for a flight, find something you love, and take home a crowler, which is a huge can of beer filled right from the tap. They don’t have food, but feel free to bring in something and eat with friends while tasting delicious beers. Also, no TV so you may have to talk with your friends.

Great beer at great prices! This small-batch microbrewery usually has something to suit most palates. When you walk in, the bar is pretty much straight ahead. That’s where you place your order. To the right is the seating area where you can enjoy your beer with food you bring, friends, in-house board games that are stowed on low shelves. To the left is the brewing area where the magic happens. The menu is on screens at the bar. Of the selection, you can order a taster(4 oz, $ 1.25+), a serving(12 oz, $ 4 – 8), or fill a growler(32 oz &64 oz, $ 6 – 16). I usually get a flight & leave with at least one growler. I tend towards the dark, smooth, & bitter. There is usually some kind of Stout involving coffee or chocolate that I get obsessed with.(Remember XOXO, Valentine, Because Coffee?) If you don’t share my preferences, there is usually some lighter brew, like a golden lager that still embodies complexity in flavour. The Dirty Hippy, a brown ale, is a popular standby. And something sour, which I never try, is usually on tap. The offerings are constantly changing so get it before it’s gone!

All right, guys, I’m about to put my skinny jeans, flannel, and dark rimmed glasses on so be forewarned: there is a very hipster, snooty review coming up. I love craft beer and it always gets me excited to visit small microbreweries across the country. What I typically find is that they’re fairly hit or miss. Some menu items are boring/mediocre, but there are usually one or two highlights(sometimes, if you’re really lucky, you find a real gem). Triptych falls into this category for me. While there were no gems and while I was not too impressed with their beers overall, there were two worth discussing. The first for me was the Mind The Gap. They describe it as a hoppy pale ale, which I’d say is pretty accurate. It pours a light golden yellow color and it’s relatively low ABV(5.3%) but it has a really nice, fresh citrus-y hop flavor that I really enjoyed. They also had an interesting sour with some raisin notes. Other than that, the other beers didn’t stand out to them. The Barrel aged stout is a fairly standard offering at craft breweries(but tasty enough), the XOCO is a smooth chocolate stout but it’s lacking in chili flavor and complexity, the Phil’s English IPA was sort of flat and boring, the Punky town had intense pumpkin spice flavor… if you’re into that kinda thing(I tend to find these gimmicky, but hey, my jeans are too tight so cut me some slack). Prices here are fantastic, though($ 1.50-$ 2 for a 4oz pour) so I won’t complain too much :-). Flights are the way to go so you can taste a bunch and find the one you really like. I do love the atmosphere of this place. They have a large assortment of board games and it’s easy to spend a couple hours here drinking and having a good time. For a small microbrewery in the middle of a teeny college town in IL, Triptych deserves 4 stars. Though there weren’t any standouts when I went I’d be curious to try more of their brews. …that review wasn’t too snooty, now, was it?

Great craft beer. Variety. Knowledgeable and skilled ownership. Watch it grow. Over time, more and more restaurants will wisely adding their brews to menus. I like visiting their store front still. Check them out.

I feel so lucky to have access to the beers Triptych produces. For such a small venue, they produce brews out of this world. I’ve always loved their IPAs(the hop school varieties rock) but am becoming more and more impressed by their sours and stouts. Today I was able to try some of their beers left over from Festivus — AJ’s Stout(comparable IMO to Dark Lord or BCBS), Wine Barrel Aged TL;DR, and Virgil is Old(a strong ale). So good! Triptych’s footprint is expanding and I am excited to see what their future holds. My fiancé and I plan to incorporate Triptych into our wedding in March!

Savoy IL is not the first place I think of when I’m searching for excellent craft beer. However Triptych fits the bill. Unique and tasty craft brews in a genuine small town environment. The brewers man the bar here frequently and are happy to talk beer, or anything local. The beers are unique and varied with a nice selection rotating regularly. There are numerous beers aging in cask in the tasting room, and often 1 or two are tapped. The tasting room has plenty of room for board games, cards, or just lounging and since they do not serve their own food they allow you to bring in any outside food.

They seem to like citrus-y hops more than anything, which is convenient since I do too.

This place opened up right before I finished grad school, but last weekend was the first time I went. Place is decent with decent beers, but that’s about it. Between the two of us, we had three beers, which would probably have been ranked one star, three stars, and four stars. Lots of games to play, which was nice. And… a big plus was when my BF dropped his beer(and shattered the glass), they gave him a new one and a new beer stein(which we had paid $ 5 for to take home). A+ for customer service. Honestly, this place deserves 3.5 stars in my opinion, but Unilocal still hasn’t gotten with the half star system.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is due to the fact that there was no alternative alcoholic beverages other than beer. Being on a gluten free diet, I couldn’t have a beer so only option was a soft drink. At least they had a few sodas to chose from, which was a plus. It would have been great if they had a cider or some mini-wine bottles to offer as an alternative. What I did love was the coffee-shop like atmosphere, inviting and casual. The outdoor seating area had cool lighting and decoration and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly from what I could tell. I wish I could say I’d be back, but unless I’m with a group for a certain occasion this place might be best left only to beer drinkers.

Who doesn’t love Triptych? It’s a local gem:) The people behind the bar are great and the beers rotate which is perfect. They have some amazing brews on tap and the price is great. If you find something you love, you can grab some to go. They have a variety of sizes and their most popular is available in 4 packs in the fridge. You can also find some of their beer at Friar Tuck.

I stopped by again and had a chance to try out multiple hop-school IPA’s with different types of hops. Very cool to see how they each taste different! The beer seems to be upgraded and more interesting lately, the service is still stellar. Lovin’ it.

There aren’t a lot of breweries in the Champaign-Urbana area but that doesn’t matter because Triptych is really the only one you need. Their beer list is constantly rotating and you can even see how much of a certain brew they have left on their website. This is important if you fall in love with a certain beer, though you can’t really go wrong with any of their selections. The prices are great. You pay less than you would at other bars for comparable pints and what’s more is you’re getting the beer straight from the source. There is ample seating and the staff is very friendly. You are even allowed to bring your own food in which is awesome. There are also a selection of board games to play with friends. Like any other brewery they have growlers you can take home. You pay once for the growler and then you can have it filled on future visits.

First time here. Enjoying the La Crescent Saison. My guy’s enjoying the Barrel Aged(redacted). Samples help you make your choice. Looking forward to our next visit.

These guys are off to a good start. Comfy little tap room, nice digital menu with a spot for recent Untappd check-ins and most importantly a decent selection of brews. Tried about half of them and all were at least solid while two of them outshined the rest. With 7 barrel tanks, I’m sure the menu will be different by the time you read this so just try everything– the price is right.

This was my third trip to Triptych. I haven’t been disappointed in the brews at any point. The space is good and clean and bright. It doesn’t have a pub like feel similar to the Blind Pig. I think that the beers are more interesting here compared to any other place in C-U. This last trip I got a coffee and vanilla brown ale. The flavors were subtle and balanced and it still tasted like a brown ale, thankfully. Prices are affordable. The main reasons that I don’t come as often as I should are that they are just a little off the beaten path and they close fairly early(10 on weekdays and 11 on weekends).

Triptych is one of the best things going in C-U today! They constantly rotate new and innovative beers and there’s always something on the menu that will please any beer drinker. They also do a lot of cask experimentation, which a lot of the local beer snobs love. It’s owned and operated by three local guys and they are often seen at the brewery. They’ve also begun distributing some beer to local restaurants, but nothing beats coming in with friends and hanging out over a few beers. Go try this place!

Triptych Brewing is exactly what the C-U area needs; an honest no frills establishment for those who like BEER. Some peanuts or something might be a good idea, but you don’t want to spoil this little gem by adding unnecessary things, or taking away from the primary focus, which is beer. I’m a Savoy local and can walk here. I come for the beer, and stay for the peaceful environment. This type of establishment will draw beer lovers and repel trouble makers. I don’t want to sound like nouveau riche heel, but an IPA would be nice. Oh yeah, bring back that spicy chile beer(sans the chocolate flavor), I loved it!

Great pricing when you go to the brewery. We usually leave with at least one growler. Sometimes, their brew can be hit or miss but I like experimentation and you can never go wrong with the sampler size. I wish they were closer to town and maybe that they served food other than bar nuts.
