We visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening and it was crowded enough that there was only 1 table left when we arrived. The service was adequate and the food was absolutely delicious. Our party had some dietary restrictions with one person with a dairy allergy and another that is a vegetarian. This restaurant was easily able to adapt the food to our needs. The waiter knew what could and could not be made vegetarian on the menu and automatically knew that the dish asked about didn’t have dairy. Of the 3 dishes we ordered, all were excellent and we ate every bite. The next time we return to Savannah we will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.

The Edamame dumplings are amazing. Best I have ever had. The pulled pork sandwich as well as the Na Na Noodles are great as well. Everything is delicious!

I think it depends on what you are looking for. For a quick place to eat and get decent noodles, this place works. But if you’re looking for true authentic Vietnamese noodles, there is definitely something lacking. The noodles are a bit mushy and the wontons are really bready. But still overall an okay option of you aren’t picky.

After a twenty minute wait, late on a Saturday night, we were ushered to our table at The Flying Monk Noodle Bar(note: you’ll most likely have to wait outside for your table, there’s not much, if any, ‘standing room’ at the hostess stand). I was immediately impressed by the diversity of the menu, Vietnamese phở to Thai(also Laotian) green papaya salad and Chinese wontons. But that’s not all, they all have options from Singapore, Cambodia, Korea and Japan(it’s like my year of travels post-college put into one restaurant!). We went with the Thai Na Na Noodles with beef and the Som Tam(green papaya salad). Both dishes were great, although I would’ve loved some crispy dried shrimp on the papaya salad and a bit more spice. I could see myself returning to Flying Monk Noodle Bar if I lived in the area, but I wouldn’t say it’s a must-visit spot if you’re vacationing in Savannah.

After looking for tasty restaurants in the area through Unilocal,I found the Flying Monk. My boyfriend and I were seated fairly quickly; though the space between patrons was a bit close, a la New York seating. However, this doesn’t bother me as my seat was comfy. We started with the belly braised pork(buns), which were okay compared to others I have had. It was missing a bit of sauce and moisture(it was a little bit dry). However, the amount of pork belly given was more than enough, which made it worth eating. I ordered the Phở Combo and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Lemongrass with shrimp. Both dishes tasted very good – my phở was very well flavored and we both had a generous amount of noodle and soup. Overall, the ambiance was pretty chill(we had a brief convo with the women next to us), and the food was good and affordable.

After days of eating everything fried I could get my hands on, I thought maybe I would switch it up for my last meal in Savannah. But then I didn’t really because I had the Crispy FM Noodle Salad, which has a deep fried spring roll sliced right into it. At least there were some fresh vegetables, too? It was very good, and a generous enough portion that I couldn’t finish it. The Vietnamese coffee was good, too. Service was a bit brusque.

It was cold and we had had BBQ for lunch, so warm soup was the idea for dinner. We were a large party and waited about 20 minutes to be seated. For starters I tried a few plates as we shared. The egg roll was awesome, crunchy, not to greasy and full of flavor, best egg roll I’ve had. The green papaya salad was so good, we ordered the spice on the side to limit the heat of the peppers. It was tangy and refreshing. For entrée I had the Combination Phở as I wanted meat, and this had a lot of meat in it, along with beef broth and traditional Phở veggies. None of us were able to finish our soup bowls as they’re so large. My friends ordered the Nana noodles and they raved about it all night. Overall I didn’t think I’d end up at an Asian fusion restaurant in Savannah but I’m glad I did, because it was delicious and healthy and a perfect way to mix things up between all the southern bbq and fried chicken.

We had the tuna tartar tacos, the pork belly buns, spicy noodles with octopus and the Chinese broccoli with coconut water to drink. I wouldn’t change a thing about any of the items, except to create a bottomless pit in my belly. The tacos had a surprising pop in flavor with the mix of the tuna, strawberries, roe, and sesame seeds. Yum! The pork belly buns were a wonderful combination of savory and sweet and larger than you might expect. The noodles say spicy 7 – 10 range, but we found them closer to a 5. Octopus was PERFECT. I’m assuming the art school locale has something to to do with this Asian gem in historic Savannah. A must try if you’re in town and want a break from smothered southern. Go get it.

Came here for dinner on Saturday night with about a 15 – 20 minute wait. Once we were seated we only saw our waitress twice during our entire meal and that was to take our order and to then drop the check off(while we were still eating!)… Not everyone’s entrees came out on time and our waitress took down some of our orders incorrectly. We got the duck ramen soup wish was good, not very high quality but tasty and the Tao dumpling soup which only had 2 dumplings. While the food was good the service was so bad!

Not a bad spot. Tight quarters with overflowing patrons waiting to be sat. Decent selection of noodle soups and noodle dishes along with rice dishes. Service had a good flow. Plenty of attention paid by the servers and they were quick to sit patrons as tables opened. Not an empty seat in the house. I’m not the noodler but my dish was tasty. I went with the master shifu. Definitely a unique spot if you’re looking for something different. Hipster haven.

I live across the street from the monk and I gotta say — - I’m never disappointed. The food is always delicious and the service friendly. The edamame dumplings are simply to die for and my favorites keep changing because everything is so good! The kitchen is always willing to work with you for vegan or vegetarian options and there are always lots of things to choose from! Add a Vietnamese coffee to your next visit to make your meal even more perfect :-)

Sehr gutes Essen.

Pretty freakin yummy for Asian fusion. I had the Chicken Curry Noodles and my kids had the Phở… I also had their Papaya Salad!!! It was all dadadamnnnnnn delicious!!! It’s located right off River St… totally convenient and very crowded here. Casual ambiance and great price for fantastic food. I wanted to go again the next day, but decided on another place… That Chickem Cirry Noodle though…;) A must do for me again! Next time Savannah!

The food was amazing! They serve you Such a big bowl! I had the curry and it was delicious! It wasn’t spicy but it had the right amount of spice. I have a big appetite but I couldn’t even finish it! Although, place is kind of small. Not a huge deal to me, but they have a booth and they placed tables in front of the booth and a chair on the opposite side. So if you’re sitting on the booth side, you’re basically two inches away from the person sitting at the table next to you.

This place is a bit of a phenomenon — meaning it is always packed to the point where even asking how long the wait is does not come to mind. Thus, at 6:00PM on a Monday luck came with only a 10 minute wait. Not being to a noodle bar before my first comment to the waitress was: Help! The recommendation that came back was either the Phở or the Na Na Noodles and since I have at least had Phở before I went for the Na Na Noodles with a Belly Braised Pork appetizer — plus a Beerlao to start. The beer was good, and a new one for me, the appetizer was amazing and the Na Na Noodles amazingly kept up the pace making this truly one of the best meals I have had in some time. Yes, go here. Either wait or find a time that is friendly for service and you will not be disappointed.

Yum yum yum this is the second time I’ve eaten here in the last year. Be prepared to wait for a table. Lots of choices and each is labeled by country of origin. Ive never seen this place empty. Always a lunch stop for me when I’m in savannah.

The Bangkok noodle was super good! It might as well be the best curry we ever had. The five spice pork plate was also decent, the rice was nicely seasoned. Overall, we had great experience, good service, good food!

During our tour of Savannah we wondered into The Flying Monk Noodle Bar. My wife ordered the Phở and i had the Small Suckling Pig Board and The Crispy Egg Rolls. The food was all top notch. The highlight was the Suckling Pig Board which was fatty and amazingly tasty. The Phở stock was yummy and the meats were really good. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was very attentive. We had multiple employees making sure we had everything we needed and making sure the food was to our liking. I would definitely come back if i was in the area.

It was a cold and rainy day in Savannah so my group settled on noodles. We arrived early lunch time and there seemed to be plenty of tables. However it did get crowded later. The staff seemed to have a hard time keeping up with the crowd. Our waiter started off with excellent service; very attentive, friendly and helpful. But then he just disappeared and we barely saw him. We had to practically beg someone for our bill. I got a Vietnamese coffee — good but always to sweet for me to drink all the time. For my main course I ordered the Nah nah noodles. They were great and hit the spot. Just the right amount of seasoning and spice. Spices were served on the side to kick it up a notch. I probably would have rated 5 stars if the service didn’t take a nose dive at the end.

October 10, 2015 Saturday — 12:30PM for a lunch 1 adult and a kid Atmosphere — 4 star Food — 4 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Just finished our free historic walking tour of Savannah and needed some food. Atmosphere — The restaurant is near Johnson square where our tour started. And a few blocks from where we finished. The floor plan is too crowded, they cram you in like sardines. A better floor plan could help. Food Drinks — A small beer list and the one that jumped out to me was beerlaos, yeah beer from Laos. They were out, so I went with a local beer, Sweetwater 420. Food — Every menu item had the country of origin next to the name of the item, which I thought was cool. The items that jumped out to me were from Laos. I cannot think of any Laotian restaurants in Reno where I live. I went with Chinese, perhaps I should have gone with that. I had the Kung Fu Panda, wait wait, wrong item name. The Master Shifu Noodles, slow braised short ribs on a bed of wild rice noodles. The meat was tender, but it was very bland. After looking around I think most people had Phở. Service — Fast. Sad that they did not have the beer I wanted to try. I try to go with the ethnicity of the restaurant for my beer. Future –I would like to visit again.
