While on vacation in Hilton Head we went to Savannah for the day. Found this place on Unilocal. It doesn’t look like much on the outside as it is very unique. Food was awesome! Service was great! I definitely recommend eating here!

This location was no longer open when we went 10÷4÷14. If in the area it is worth a peek in the windows. Looks like a movie set for Back to the Future.

This authentic 36-seat, 1938 diner, across the street from the the fashion school of the Savannah College of Art and Design, serves students, faculty and the general public. It is gorgeous with the original stained glass, tile floor and mahogany booths. The diner serves a light breakfast and lunch from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All the meals on the fairly limited menu were under $ 8. Based on my lunch, it may be the atmosphere not the food which is the main attraction here but, truly, I have never before experienced such an authentic diner. Ever. I had the Asian salad which was tasty but the lettuce(being the main ingredient) was seriously past its best before date with lots of black spots etc although the other ingredients were good(red pepper, carrots, peas) as was the ginger dressing. The kitchen must have been sleepy when my plate was assembled. The iced tea was quite tasty, not too sweet and seemed to have been made from scratch. Other meal choices included various sandwiches including a club and several other salads as well as a half-a-salad, half-a-sandwich option. They have fries and milk shakes on the menu as well although the machines required to produce these diner staples were not working the day that I was there. Service was good from a bodacious, uniformed(Bravo!) waitress who was from the NY-NJ area which only added to the atmosphere.(She didn’t check on my order after it was delivered but apologized afterward for ignoring me.) All of the other diners were energetic SCAD students and some faculty. It was fun.
