This place was fantastic! Their drinks are all really yummy, interesting cocktails. White Russian anyone? We walked back here to get drinks like three times in the same night since we were right around the corner at a show and it’s okay to drink on the streets. The drinks are also more affordable then the other bar we thought about drinking at. The bartender was super nice and funny. It was a Wednesday or Thursday when we visited I think, and it still got pretty busy around 8. Nice atmosphere, it was decorated with odd sea themed décor. Will go there again for sure!

This place is CLOSED permanently! Dive bar for hipsters. Was kinda dirty. Cheap drinks and the Scorpian tea was the best. Will miss it. The owner is actually opening up another more upscale bar next to Tequila’s town.

A nice place that seems to have an identity I haven’t figured out after only one visit. The atmosphere is definitely«hole in the wall»(I mean this as a compliment) but I can’t put my finger on the rest. There was a small crowd as it was relatively early, I don’t know if they were going to have music tonight, again relatively early. The one thing that really blew my mind about Hang Fire was when I paid my tab. Two vodka drinks only cost me $ 7. That alone is reason enough to go back. This place has come highly recommended by several people, I liked my experience, I just can’t figure the identity out yet. I will definitely return!

Such a love/hate relationship with Hang Fire. When I am consuming their quality low cost drinks, things are wonderful. Drinks are flowing, music is playing and my tab is about $ 20. …the next day… I can’t even look Hang Fire in the eye. Feeling this horrible the next day should come with a higher price tag. And yet, the next night, I am lured back in. Hang Fire just isn’t fair.

I’m in love with Hang Fire. It took a few visits before I figured the crowd out, but this is a bar that is different every time you visit. My first time in, there was a rock band performing. I love live music, and there’s a stage, so I thought this might be a good place to come to hear a band. The next time I came, there was a DJ playing old school hip hop. I don’t know whether it was the Cat Nap and huge olé PBR can I had, or the music, but I ended up challenging someone to a MJ dance off. Good times. I’m all about finding some bars that you love and sticking with them. Now, I can say I’ve added a new spot to the list. This is a cool ass bar. Check it out.

This bar is so hipster it hurts. We ended up here as part of a ghost tour around 10pm last Friday night. Outside of the«band»(?) and a handful of mustachioed, suspender-wearing children, we were the only people there. The whole time we were there, the band was just sort of making noise… I wouldn’t exactly call it a sound check. And they definitely weren’t playing. They were just f’ing around at a ridiculous volume for 20+ minutes. They have 1 unisex bathroom so the line super long, especially when you consider that it takes a minute to re-situate yourself when you’re wearing all hipster accouterments. I’d be open to trying this place again, as they gave a nice pour of Tito’s in my vodka soda and that makes me happy.

This is a fun and eclectic place! We were here during a haunted pub crawl, so we weren’t here very long, but per the tour guide’s recommendation, I got the Moon Tang — it’s a pretty delicious drink made with — you guessed it — Tang! Service was fast and friendly.

Maybe you guys should have a second thought about having Ben as your doorman for checking IDs. Looks like he’s been losing some business on not only myself but a handful of others based on reviews. It was my second time coming around this bar in months and not once was I actually denied access to a bar within downtown until now. I may be small, Asian, full of youth, and 23 year old. I was denied access for all the wrong reasons. I’m from Honolulu Hawaii, State ID, and card was vertical(do your research, it’s the new format of IDs, Ben). I had my student ID, credit card, but nothing seems to convince this guy from doing his job fairly. He may be around every weekend to card people doesn’t mean he’s good at what he’s doing. Loved the bar, I was once there. Maybe not again because of the doorman. I might as well have to call the police to verify my ID to get in-wouldn’t that be fun every time. It’ll be next time. A great suggestion’s to have the police around, just like the Social club, because they know better of what they’re doing. OR as a suggestion for the doorman’s job security, start off by downloading the ID checker app on the iPhone just like guys at the Social club(yes, again) so Mr. Doorman wouldn’t have to rely on his poor judgements. Anyways fantastic place in the inside. Great drinks and atmosphere, not so smart doorman. Can’t deny the guy’s a major jerk.

I wouldn’t classify this as a dive bar but more like a college bar. I am 30 and was the oldest person here. It was dead and then a heavy metal band came on so we left immediately. Would not return.

Eclectic. This bar is the true definition of the word. From the décor, the drinks to most of all the patrons. We strolled in late night on a Saturday and I was speechless. The crowd was diverse, the music was on point and the drinks were flowing. The overall vibe of the place was electric and full of good energy. You just couldn’t help but enjoying yourself here. What a great place to stumble upon late in the evening. A definite stop on the way through downtown!

Probably my favorite find during my trip to Savannah. We were leaving Persepolis next door and we saw a big crowd of people in front of this place so we decided to check it out. Turns out they were having an event with 14 local acts playing! Wide range of music. Loved the vibe, the people, the drinks! Go check it out. You won’t regret it.

Whoever the DJ was on Saturday night was on fire! This place was great for dancing. It wasn’t crowded which gave us free reign on the dance floor and everyone there was very nice. I would definitely recommend this bar to those wanting to dance on Saturday night.

I would’ve given this place a good review if their door guy wasn’t such a jerk. We went here on New Year’s Eve early on in the night(before the door guy arrived) and the bartender was nice and the drinks were strong. We went back later on though, and the door guy wouldn’t let my boyfriend go in. He had an unexpired, valid GA driver’s license, but because it said«under 21 until 2008» and he was apparently illiterate he said he couldn’t go in and that the ID was fake. This place gets a 1 for service, if you’re in charge of the door you should know how to read.

Great bar that I wound up at both nights while on vacation. The first night we wandered in it was already halfway through trivia(on a Wednesday) but they were able to give us a spot for a group that left. Trivia was fun, even though my team scored negative points in the end! The bartenders were very cool, and remembered us the following night. They have some mixed drinks for 45(moscow mules, a scorpion drink) and for $ 2 more you can get top shelf liquor. They had karaōke on a Thursday and the bar still wasn’t that crowded with one ‘performer’ on stage. The bartender was very cool about offering up recommendation since we were from out of town.

We went to savannah for NYE and didn’t have any plans for the night. While walking to river street we heard great music playing and decided to stop in. The dj was awesome! He played a great selection of old school rap/hip hop and current hits that had people dancing all night. The bar staff were very friendly and poured great drinks. My fiancée got their house drink and enjoyed it. Wish we had a similar place in Miami! Definitely coming back next time we’re in town.

A dive bar at it’s finest is Hang Fire. We got to the bar in the early evening while it was still buy a drink get one for $ 1. My friend and I got the scorpion tea.(Just a note the same person has to buy both drinks and they have to be the same drink.) It did not disappoint! A scorpion tea is like a long island, with bourbon, and something that makes it pink. It was good, but it was strong. I also like that it was in a mason jar. This bar is full of locals, but don’t be scared, just grab a drink at the bar from probably the only bartender that will be there, sit down, and watch a fun movie on one of their TVs. We watched Robots. They have a wall outside with drivers licenses. I’m sure those are fakes, and were confiscated. Made for a fun couple of minutes on our way out.

Good crowd and cool dive bar. Mostly locals. The downside was the service. There wasn’t a large crowd for a Saturday night and the bartender never came by to check up on us. Although, I was sporting a pair of sperry’s in a hipster atmosphere with a short haircut, I don’t think that should be an excuse for snubbing a thirsty customer. I’d give it more stars for atmosphere, but am slamming them with a 1 for service; no excuses. I might go back, but only in tapered jeans.

God. What sorts of times *haven’t* I had in Hang Fire? The night it opened it became my go-to haunt in good-ol’ haunted Savannah. There have been evolutions over its five-odd-year history; the floor configuration has changed, the stage got added, the jukebox got its walking papers, the bar got extended, the little white magical taxidermy critter in one of the columns has disappeared and reappeared and disappeared again. There were tacos(remember THAT deliciousness, fellow old-schoolers?), there were many fantastic bartenders(Rob, Tammy, Annie, Kristen, Pat and the dynamic duo who have always run the show, Heather and Wes). And there have countless fun, ridiculous, sweaty shows. Nowhere else in Savannah can you wind up at an event like«Hearts, Hands and Emotions,» where everyone you know is within arm’s length, in the pitch dark, wearing glow sticks, on top of the wooden bench that runs along the Southern wall, crazy dancing to some obscure Turkish disco track that DJ Keith Kozel or Jake«The Snake» King has pulled out of a crate. Over on the other side of the coin, three nights later, you find yourself kicking back, sitting down and playing the city’s best trivia, drinking a house-specialty Scorpion Tea out of a mason jar or a tall Genesee Cream Ale. And it’s inevitable that you’ll be back the next night to warble a few bars of Journey or Janis Joplin at karaōke. It’s fair to say that most of my favorite Savannah times have happened at Hang Fire. The city’s best and coolest people are here, too. Sure, the crowd varies from night to night. Sometimes the music is too loud(Wes, you are making me deaf). But it’s a sure-fire guarantee that you’ll have a good time if you just relax and let Hang Fire do its thing.
