We had a pretty disappointing experience, we both ordered dishes with big pieces of fish(raw tuna & grilled salmon), and found both tasted old and unpleasant(you know the old fish taste).

Unfortunately food was really really bad tonite . tasteless and expensive . Their presentation leaves a lot to be desired too, Rolls are thrown on a plate with no care. There is no creativity in any of their rolls . Too bad because it’s just down the street from my house.

Why? Why? Oh good God why? It’s so good, the delivery is so fast! I need to move! I need to move out of the area so I can stop ordering here! I think I might be personally putting some of their servers or delivery drivers through college… I’m trying to finish college and get into a masters! Stop, for the love of God… stop being so great! Oh and the food, oh good baby angels with unicorn wings! Yes it’s so good!

Happy to have a Sushi Ran alternative in Sausalito. The vibe at Sweet Ginger is always relaxed and not pretentious. I can’t see the prices are that much cheaper than Sushi Ran, but they are a shade lower. Always room for a seat, good quality sashimi and maki, and friendly service make this a dependable, low-effort place to visit if you’re a native Sausalito resident. Also, their new website is much better than that old one they used to have — finally works on my phone:

Definitely our go-to Japanese restaurant in Sausalito and likely our most-visited Japanese restaurant in all of California. The care and attention of the amazing couple who own and operate the place oozes genuine-ity, yes, I created a new word. They genuinely care about their customers, their food, their place, and the experience you have when you visit as well as when you order take-out, or, our new favorite… DELIVERY! Can’t say enough, just go, order some tuna collar(hamachi if I remember correctly, but I’m just a dumb American), a spider roll, a Godzilla roll, their amazing Miso, and a Caledonia roll and… EATIT!

Sweet Ginger is my favorite sushi place in Marin. The food is fresh and tastes very clean. I love their Rainbow Roll and their Spicy Tuna Roll. I was so impressed with the tuna I ordered a second roll This place is charming and pleasant. The location on Caledonia is very quintessential Sausalito. The prices are about $ 12 — $ 15 a roll which is average price for sushi in Marin. What I love about this place is I am always very pleased with the quality of each item. I also got Tempura Prawns and vegetables. It was delicious. The food tastes very bright and fresh which is important to me with fish of any kind. I saw some Soba Noodle dishes on a nearby plate that looked amazing. I will have to try them next time. For me this place understated excellence. The food is always great and the atmosphere is easy going. Perfect place to dine with a friend.

Sadly another«miss» for sushi here in Sausalito. Poorly prepared, boring tasteless food. Very slow service, even when the place is sparsely attended. The menu has inaccurate prices, so be careful what you order and ask how much it costs beforehand.

The food is sub standard but it’s expected I suppose. The ramen has nothing notable about it and was incredibly bland. The noodles were very tough and chewy. Did not come apart easily. The sashimi was okay at best. Tuna was not fresh at all. I would not come to this place when there are much better choices across the bridge.

Average food, environment and service. Stop over in Sausalito to grab some dinner before heading down south. Was surprised to find many empty parking lots in the downtown area on a Sunday evening. The shop was rather empty, there was just two other tables occupied and it was dinner time. Usually the no. of patrons serves as a good estimate on your dining experience. We ordered a Dragon roll, ume shiso sushi and a Tokyo style ramen. Along with two hot green tea, the meal cost around $ 40. The Dragon toll and ume shiso sushi was yummy though they could really work on their presentation. The whole presentation was untidy and the sushi weren’t «glued» well together. Also, the Dragon roll was tiny. The smallest sushi rolls I ever had so far in SF! The Tokyo Style Ramen was a huge disappointment. The chashu pork tasted weird and looks artificial. Fish cakes taste like plastic. The broth and noodles tasted bland. An average place to visit if you are craving for sushi and sushi only. Do not recommend their noodles at all.

I love this cozy Lito spot! The miso is my favorite, and the sushi is made fresh as you order! It’s a casual spot with a local feel and beautiful food at an affordable price! You can’t go wrong! And they deliver!

I really like Sweet Ginger as a mellow weeknight spot. We tend to go every couple weeks for fresh, basic, yummy sushi. On busier nights, it seems they don’t have extra employees to deal with the bustle. Valentine’s day, they were exceptionally busy, and exceptionally slow, but now we just know to only go when the place looks empty. Overall, though, it’s still our favorite local spot, and we’ll continue to enjoy it!

I hate giving bad reviews. Like hate it. And it takes a lot for me to review an establishment negatively but Sweet Ginger done pissed me off tonight. I have ordered the same thing from them always, a crunchy, spicy tuna roll, my own roll that I special order and some gyoza. I order again tonight. There was an issue that I hadn’t hit their minimum of $ 25, ok that’s weird because its never happened… but no big deal, I added more on to the order to hit the delivery minumum. We received our food and opened it up and we didn’t recognize a single thing. The fish was mushy and tasted so overly fishy that we spit it out.(and threw it all away). I have no idea what they sent us but it was recognizable. I called to discuss with them and they said this is what I ordered(however, he kept mentioning words that I had no idea even meant so I know I didn’t order that). Anyway, after going back and forth for a few minutes and coming to no resolution except him saying that I ordered this, I decided to hang up and be done with Sweet Ginger. If only he would have talked with me a bit more perhaps we could have saved this sweet friendship. Good bye sweet ginger…

Came here with my little person for lunch. It was a weekday and the place was pretty empty, but my little person really thought we should give it a try. All I can say is that it’s nothing to go crazy for, but if you’re looking for just the basics, I guess it’s ok.

Atrocious lack of service and the food made me sick. We made a reservation and when we arrived the host seemed to have no recollection that we made a reservation but seated us. The place was about 50% full. We ordered promptly and then shortly after heard the complaints around us from other guests about«where’s my dinner, I’ve been waiting an hour.» My appetizer arrived after one hour, then my friend’s arrived 30 minutes later and so on. We never ate together as the service was spaced out. The cooks seemed to be fulfilling take out orders ahead of the seated guests. This place has no clue about customer service. At one point the waiter said«everyone is waiting 2 hours» so I asked why did you grant a reservation? Incredibly rude. I guess they get away with it because of the visitors to Sausalito? The food tasted fine, but after becoming ill a few hours later I’d say stay away from this place.

There’s Sushi Ran down the road. If you head that way you will return with a hole in your wallet. If on the other hand you just really want some sushi(always fresh) without breaking the bank, walk on over to Sweet Ginger. Hold your head up and strut like a peacock if you must. There’s nothing to be shy about. I think the joint is family owned. The sushi chef works efficiently and tirelessly. Somehow he manages to always smile. My Japanese is nil but I always bow when I enter and leave. He returns the exchange quiet amicably. Last night we had the Rainbow Roll in addition to the usual suspects: California, Caledonia, spicy tuna, sea weed salad and miso. I should backtrack and say«last night we inhaled» the sushi. Which is more accurate since that’s what happened. There was a cop on a date sitting behind us. He arrived with his date by way of squad car. Not a bad way to pick up someone for dinner(as long as you’re not being arrested afterwards). We come here every 7 – 10 days. For 4 sushi rolls, a couple of appetizers and saki the total is around 50 bucks. That’s pretty damn good in this neck of the woods.

Horrible experience. The service is terrible, my group of 7 was waiting for 25 minutes just to get greeted and order drinks. The sushi isn’t the worst I’ve ever had but very overpriced for very small, mediocre portions. I could get better sushi at a convenient store.

My husband and I live in Sausalito and have been here about a half dozen times in the last year, so I’m disappointed to see so many poor reviews. This is a neighborhood sushi joint, not meant to be like a gourmet sushi ran. The selections are pretty basic but you’ll find all of the traditional rolls. We’ve experienced consistently good sushi. Good, but not drive out-of-your-way to eat here amazing – just to be specific. Probably at most, one time I had fish that was a little too fishy tasting. And maybe the service was very slow once, but otherwise they are always pretty attentive. In general, I’m still adjusting to how much more restaurants charge in the Bay Area vs. Seattle, so if Sweet Ginger wanted to lower their prices I would be OK with it. Otherwise, until we get sick, we’ll be going back…
