For our final pizza club meeting, we took advantage of the g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s bay area weather this weekend and headed to Sausalito to San Drino. We are all vegetarians, and we ordered three pies: verdure miste(tomato sauce, mozzarella, eggplant, bellpeppers, zucchini, and parmesan) tigullio(tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil pesto, cherry tomatoes, and emmental cheese) calabrese(mozzarella, garlic pesto, fresh ricotta cheese, and cayenne pepper) We loved all three. The thinly sliced veggies on the verdure miste were delicious, and we loved the basil pesto and cherry tomatoes and emmental cheese on the tigullio pie. The calabrese had a nice kick but the garlic pesto was overwhelming at times. We could definitely see ourselves back here, hopefully to try the parmigiana and maybe something with mushrooms.

Discovered this gem and will absolutely go back. Opened 9 months ago by a charming Italian couple newly arrived in the US, this is the perfect place for a delicious salad, home made bread, thin crust pizza, and glass of Chianti. Burrata salad was to die for!

Excellent service, quaint little place in Sausalito. The pizzas were tasty, tried the Trentina & parmigiana with Prosciutto full of flavor. The sauce and the crust was done in perfection. Definitely will be back.

Delicious and innovative food with the freshest ingredients! The restaurant is run by a kind Italian couple who took time to answer any questions we had on the menu. We’ll be back next time we are in the area!

Delicious pizza! Unfortunately it’s a tiny place so seating can be challenging. We were lucky enough to get the bar seating which faces the brick oven. But quickly moved to the communal table once it became available. Loved how the flavor of the crust did not overpower the toppings. It was very thin & crispy. We had the four stagioni which was very good and the pepperonta con Barrata. So yummy! I also have to mention that the focaccia and olive oil they gave at the beginning of the meal was amazing! The owner, Monika, made the focaccia.

Amazing pizza, literally some of the best I have had! Owners themselves made our dinner… Chatted with us when we asked questions … They are Italian themselves, only been in the US ten months and it shows in how amazing this pizza was. Great drink selections, service, and atmosphere. Worth the walk from the main«downtown» area

Anyone who doesn’t like this place is a jack ass. Legit Italian pizza from amazing owners who have lived in the states for just under a year. Small and quaint location with flavorful food, and a great wine selection. Don’t think, just sit and eat.

Good pizza, nice staff. Pricey. too pricey. $ 87 for dinner for two. A couple of small pizzas and a couple of beers. No fancy stuff or wine. I like that strip of Caledonia as a neighborhood feel. Hope it doesn’t get touristed up with pricey places.

A tiny Neapolitan pizza shop a block off the main drag in Sausalito just a couple doors down from the police station. We were looking for a late lunch and found this place on Unilocal. It’s a really small place with only a few tables but we lucked out and got seated right away. The menu reads like something directly out of Italy with all the usual Italian classics of thin Neapolitan pies. Ours had buffalo mozzarella with fresh tomatoes and basil and came out hot, crisp and delicious. We started with a Cesar salad which was also tasty despite being a bit heavy on the dressing. Their house made focaccia and Sicilian olive oil was nice as well. We each had a glass of the house Chianti(disappointing, especially at $ 11/glass). All in all this was a nice lunch, perfect amount of food for the two of us but at $ 66 a little bit on the pricey side.

Let me start off by saying that the food was delicious. This rating is for the disappointing service my table received. My brother and his gf were visiting from out of town and I wanted to try this 4.5 star restaurant. The place is very small and quaint with five tables total inside and a small barstool area. At one point in our service, all tables were filled. From the beginning the waiter was only making eye contact with the only white person at our table(my BF). Then I noticed that the waiter would ask every other table, «how are you doing» «where are you from» «is everything going okay» «do you need anything else». He was being an amazing waiter and very social wanting to know personal things about their lives(real hair color, occupation, family history). I know it sounds like I was being nosy but this place is very small. You can hear everything. Then he would make a 180 in service when it came to our table. All my table received while we were there was«okay what are you guys ordering». When we finished eating, we waited patiently as new tables came in. But then our check wasn’t brought to us like it was to others. My BF had to ask for our check. As the waiter brought it, he didn’t look at any of us, dropped the check on the table all while he was looking at another table starting conversation with them. It was a really disheartening experience from start to end… There’s another review on this place that I found with a similar uncomfortable experience. Like them, I hope for better experiences for future pizza goers. And to leave off this review… It’s 2016, I didn’t know I needed to exude my wealth or be of a different skin color to be served like the other four tables. And this might not be the case at all. Maybe my natural resting«b» face deterred me from the great service.

Alessandro and Monica… my fiancé and I LOVE you two! We were pretty bummed when Rosetti’s closed down 2 yrs ago, but our local pizza joint is back and we’re happier than ever you opened San Drino. We recently moved and actually ate here 3x in one week. Authentic Italian pizza with the best organic ingredients. I crave their burrata salad with sun dried tomatoes. The wine list has gotten even better since opening, and the food is consistent and always delish.

WOW. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The owners Monica and Alessandro are so friendly and genuine and their food is out of this world good. We had the Rustica pizza which might be the best pizza I have had in my 38 years on this earth. So flavorful! The gnocchi is not your traditional gnocchi but was such a GREAT dish. If I was local I would be here all the time. You won’t regret coming here.

Finally an authentic and really really good Italian restaurant/pizzeria in Sausalito. The pizzas are exquisite, not to mention the focaccia. The owners, Alessandro and Monika, are wonderful, all the ingredients are of the highest quality, the place is very nice and I am looking forward to go back over and over again, it has become my favorite place of all. I think Sausalito(and the bay area) needed a place like this, where you can finally eat as if you were in Italy. Our kids loved the pizzas so much too. Perfect for everybody, a must if you are in Sausalito.

I completely lucked out by stopping in here during a rain storm. Little did I know I would find the most memorable meal I’ve had in the San Francisco Bay area in more than a decade! The owners of this place moved here from Verona Italy less than a year ago and their food is the real deal! Super wonderful nice couple as well — he makes the food and she waits on you. She also makes all the deserts herself from scratch. It’s unheard of. A friend and I split a salad, pizza, delicious Italian wine and two deserts — it was also extremely affordable by Bay Area standards. Run, don’t walk, to this place.

Had dinner here the other night-really enjoyed it. Monica ensured that are dishes were perfect. We had appetizers and few pizzas. Pizzas are perfect-the crust and toppings. We has the bell pepper & cheese & toast appetizer-oh boy, I would come back for that one again and again! Good selection of wines. The food was really fresh! Many organic choices. Highly reccomend!

I was a fan of Rossetti and excited to see pizza return to Caledonia street so I went right when they opened. The pizza was pretty good but everything on the menu seemed to be about $ 4 more expensive than it should be. I’d go again if they were able to offer a $ 10 – 12 cheese pizza(which I can get at Poggio down the street and is just as good, if not better). Nice folks though. Happy to see they’re usually always pretty busy. Go Sausalito!

Everything we tasted was perfect: fresh ingredients that blended together simply, with flawless seasoning. We had roasted peppers with burrata, gnocchi with brown butter and sage, and pizza with Molinari sausage and porcini mushrooms! Out of this world. Definitely coming back and bringing everyone we know :)

Elegant, inviting décor, welcoming staff yet, most of all, the most delicious pizza I’ve had in years. Plus the salads and reasonably-priced wines top off the experience. After four friends recommended this restaurant, Sandrino, we went, have gone back twice and will be sharing a table with friends later this month.

Love this cozy find in Caledonia street in Sausalito. The restaurant probably seats about 20+ people but the huge windows are convenient when it gets too warm. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious. We started with the burrata on a bed of mix greens; the burrata was smooth, melted in your mouth and just superb. We also shared the Caesar salad. The dressing was creamy and garlicky and the romaine lettuce was fresh and crisp. I also like that they served it with small crostini on the side toasted and drizzled with a bit of oil. For dinner, I ordered the gnocchi with brown butter and sage. It looked very different from your usual gnocchi but it was delicious! The gnocchi patties were light and fluffy and absorbed the brown butter sage sauce perfectly. My father in law had the lasagna with bolognese sauce and said it was the best he had ever had. For dessert, we had the homemade tiramisu made that morning! It was so good. We got a chance to talk to the owner and found out that they opened the restaurant 3 months ago and they came from Northern Italy. All the recipes are old family recipes and you can definitely taste the love and the history in their meals. This is a place to visit!

If you follow me, you will know I am a pizza lover and aficionado. Simply said, this is the best pizza I have had outside of Italy, with everything in perfect harmony. Thin crust. Check. Fresh sauce. Check. Greaseless cheese. Check. Best toppings. Check. A fine way to end 2015. Be happy if you live in Saucetown.

My wife and I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of our daughter. Whoa! This is one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. Michael Bauer might never find it but who cares? The pizza is superlative, outstanding, fantastic. The lasagna is made with homemade pasta by Monika(she is actually German) who does a ton of the cooking and is equal to the pizza. The setting is small, cozy with quite tasteful décor. This place is great and the people are wonderful. I wish there were more restaurants like Sandrino. Congratulations Alessandro and Monika.

What a find! Husband and wife team directly from Italy who take pizza seriously! 48 hour dough levitation and only the freshest of ingredients(both sourced from Italy and US). Excellent wine list, California and Italian. Superb choice of salads. The space is small but very well decorated. We just got back from Italy and are so happy to have found authentic italian pizza close to home. My only complaint is that they are not in San Francisco but well worth the drive to Sausalito for this little new gem on Caledonia Street. Oh. they bake their own fresh focaccia and grissini!!!

I hoped the food would be great and was drawn in by the organic ingredients. The salads were soaked in dressing, the pizza was mediocre and in particular, the crust was incredibly bland — it tasted like cardboard. The service was off as all the entrees arrived several minutes apart. Wine was good. A friend requested pasta in a to go box– and it was styrofoam! Is this even legal in Marin? So much for organic. I’d pass this place by.

Cute Italian spot with a real authentic taste. Perfect place to relax and not feel overwhelmed. They hosted us like real Italians and brought out delicious homemade focaccia while we were waiting for our bread oven pizza. Best pizza I’ve had on the West Coast. Very suitable for a family outing or casual date spot.

I so wanted this place to be really good. I was a big fan of the old pizza place that was there before. The old place was sleek, modern, and hip. The new décor looks like your grandma’s house. …but I could live with that. The old place put out a killer pie. Perfect wood fired crust that was crisp on the bottom and chewy on top. Real Napolitana. I don’t want to sound like a poser, but there are just a couple places in Naples that are the reference standard for the best pizza in the world. Since going, I have been ruined for bad crust. What I used to think was passible is now inedible. San Drino took a great formula from a retiring master, raised the prices 20% and seemingly forgot to study how to make crust. It was some of the worst crust I have tasted in recent memory — flavorless, hard, chewy to the point of distraction. It tasted like a cardboard box and we ate in the restaurant! I’ve made better crust from Bridgeford frozen dough. Anybody remember Bridgeford? How this place maintains a 5 star, even 20 reviews in, is a mystery. Looking around Sausalito, there are a fair number of burnouts and trustafarians that clearly lost their tastebuds years ago. Also in Marin, a 5 start is a San Francisco 3 star and sometimes not even that. I hate giving a nice, young immigrant Italian couple a bad review, but hopefully early intervention will help you more that hurt. If you fix the crust, you’ll have a thriving business. If you change the décor back to hip, modern Italian, you might even have a chance to franchise and really nail the American dream. If no, you are looking at a long, slow decline serving mostly 55+ boat living yeahoos when the checks from their parents arrive. I know you probably don’t want to look at a pizza on your days off, but I am telling you that you need to really quick. Here is pizza 101 in San Francisco. All of these places really excel and this is only a short selected list — some masters, some novices, some just giving it away. Check them all out. They are miles better than what you are doing. Pizzeria Delfina Il Casaro Pizzeria & Mozzarella Bar Pizzetta 211 — they may be soup nazi-like purists here, but they take their pies very seriously Carmel Pizza Company — and its a food truck Palio d’Asti — Even here where they give their pizza away for a dollar during happy hour, they send their pizza makers away to Naples to learn how to do it. I am more saddened by this review than you know. The old place was sooooo good. It was great having real Italian pizza in Sausalito. I walked by almost every week anticipating your opening. I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The two stars, quite frankly, is being merciful which you will disagree with until you take in the restaurants above. Hey if you can’t spare the time, cross the street and go to Bar Bocce. Even they are running rings around you in style and product. I won’t be returning until I hear from you that you have dramatically improved the crust. Please write back when you have. I desperately want you to succeed.

My boyfriend and I decided to visit the new Sausalito pizza place after much intrigue. We were not disappointed! It was such a pleasant experience from beginning to end. Alessandro, the owner, is talented, knowledgeable, and passionate about his craft. As he meticulously prepared the pizza, he looked like he was at home, comfortable and content. He will also walk around the restaurant and talk to customers about the food they are eating and how it was made. Everything was delicious– the Rustica pizza was recommended by Alessandro himself. The wine was good, and the affogato with vanilla bean gelato was the best I’ve ever had. And dessert is my favorite(and most valued) part of my meal. Highly recommended, I cannot wait to come back!

A new addition to Caledonia St and well worth the wait. After waiting many months for this store front to open, San Drino serves the perfect thin crust pizza much like I enjoyed in Italy. The ingredients are fresh and authentic prepared to perfection. The owners Monica and Alessandro are friendly inviting and service to match Had the Romeo and parmigiana pizza, burrata salad, house made tiramisu a cappuccino and macchiato… no complaints whatsoever . This will be my go-to pizza place hands down and within walking distance to where I live.

Great new place … a must try! Hands down the best pizza in Sausalito, with chewy thin crust that is baked and seasoned to perfection. Service is attentive and not at all pushy. The seating is comfortable and though the wine/beer selection isn’t extensive, it is perfectly fine for this informal dining spot. We love this new addition to Caledonia and will come here and/or take out often! Meraviglioso!
