It’s a very average restaurant that has clearly been around for way too long. I don’t think it was as good as it is made out to be. Very small eating area and it is very loud. The food is very average and what you would expect from a cheap place. I came for breakfast and ordered pancakes with home fries and I have definitely had better. This place is really only good if you are really hungry and running out of options. Not really worth the wait at the door. Once again I think it’s very average and old and wished I had went to a different restaurant for breakfast.

Hammersmith Inn has the BEST pancakes in town BYFAR! At $ 6.95 the Pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream are to die for, and are a real steal at that price! Thick yet fluffy, with great tasting batter, these pancakes easily surpassed IHOP(which used to be my fave pancake spot) and far more affordable! The same item would come close to $ 10 at the breakfast chain. Whether your just passing through, or a local like myself, get yourself over to the Hammersmith for breakfast asap! They also serve lunch and dinner, which im sure is good as well. The service is great and they go the extra mile for the customer. My mother and me went their last week thinking they served breakfast all day(they don’t, unfortunately). However, the waitress had the kitchen let us order off the breakfast menu, even though it was close to 1pm. I go once a week for my pancake fix, even just for takeout and I’m never disappointed.

This place belongs in a Norman Rockwell painting. It’s the familiar, comfortable local place that people have come to for years. Well, you had better come for the atmosphere because the food is lacking. The menu is limited. Only two options for toast, the same for cheese. The home fries have absolutely no taste and appear to be spray painted orange. Upon asking a waitress, I discovered that few, if any, items are made fresh. They’re frozen! When I first moved to Saugus nine years ago I was excited about this place. But, like a fair-weather friend, all this place does is let me down. It began when I asked for a veggie omelette, which wasn’t listed on the menu. The waitress said that they didn’t make those, but she would check with the cook. He actually came out and asked me what vegetables was I thinking of as he never made one before. Are you kidding me? Was he a victim of watching Sharknado? How can a short order cook not know how to make a veggie omelette? And how can it not be on the menu? By the way, the most delicious item they have is their chicken salad. Lots of chicken, fresh tasting and seasoned perfectly. Oh, they are expensive. Think of IHOP without all of the kids. With Tumble Inn and Iron Towne close by, there’s no need to overpay here. Unless, of course, you’re desperate for local flavor, gossip and company in general. I’ve had better experiences in a confessional! I

My family and I went there for breakfast this morning– it was not what I was expecting. The food was not good and the service was horrible– we asked for Swiss cheese for my egg sand and our side orders of bacon well done– bacon was raw and the sandwich was American cheese, the home fries were dry and not much flavor– the waitress got mad that we sent the bagel back to be fixed and when we got the check it was $ 42 for breakfast for 3people– I think expansive, the check showed that she wasn’t paying attention when we ordered so it wasn’t the kitchens mistake it was her own. I would Never go back.

I move to Saugus 6 years ago and it was in my mind for a while to try this place for breakfast. When I finally did, I was surprised. It looks like an old fashion place, not trendy at all, but the service is what matters along with the food. They are both very pleasing. The menu is just what we need for breakfast, coffee was really good, and I am picky, home fries are the best, and what about the omelette, amazing. The service is very fast and friendly. I read some reviews about people complaining or making fun of the old crowd who eat there, are you guys serious? Those folks eat too and what it mean, in my opinion, is that they go there because they enjoy the place and keep going back for years, which is only a good recommendation. They don’t want to cook breakfast, have disposable money to eat and want to socialize, so it’s a good choice, so please, reviewers, quit complaining. If you want a younger crowd, go have a happy meal, I am sure you will meet a lot of kids there. I will keep going back there to enjoy my delicious breakfast or brunch, which is my favorite meal, in a friendly, inexpensive place and oh btw, not many crying kids around to ruin it. That~s not my point, though. I just want to say how good the place is, service, food, location, parking and price. What else do you want? oh, it’s tradition.

My partner and I ate here before leaving for the airport and we were not disappointed. The waitress was very friendly. The menu was great! I got a bunless cheeseburger plate with beets and mashed potatoes. Very tasty and filling. My partner got liver and onions. I tried a bite and the liver was amazingly good. Better yet, the prices were more than reasonable. The service was fast which we appreciated as we needed to get to the airport. I would definitely return again!

I want to preface this review by saying that I wasn’t expecting fancy or gourmet food, just your traditional diner food. With that said, I went to breakfast with two of my friends who grew up in Saugus and said its a pretty decent place. Walked in and we were the youngest people in the restaurant, which is fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But the food reflects why the median age of the patrons was seventy years old. The coffee was some of the weakest swill I have ever had, I honestly thought it was tea at first. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel and the waitress looked at me like she had never heard of such a crazy new fangled creation. My friends ordered pancakes and a standard eggs with bacon toast and home fries. The home fires were really bland and neon orange. The eggs in my sandwich also had no seasoning. It seemed like the cooks were either scared of salt and pepper or they weren’t allowed to use it. I tried the pancakes my buddy ordered and they were chewy and really dense, as in the batter was over beaten and probably had been sitting and waiting for a day or two. I can understand why people would go to a diner like this. Mostly because they grew up going here. But in general there are much better places to go for breakfast in and around Saugus. I will not be going back and I would not recommend friends to go here.

I’ve been going here for years and years… and years. I’m torn on whether to give it 3 or 4 stars but since I’ve been going here for years apparently I am a fan. Good breakfast food, fast friendly service and decent prices. I can’t think of a dish I’ve gotten there that hasn’t been good. I always get a kick out of the early morning regulars, who have been manning the same seats at the same time for years, mostly retired locals with a very Archie Bunker view on life. Middle Class retirees living the easy life thanks to having worked and retired during the height of US Socialism who go on and on about welfare and Obama. I’ve been to Tumble Inn in Cliftondale while decent didn’t find it suited my tastes, so back to my Archie Bunkers and their amusing social commentary.

Great family owned restaurant. I’ve only had lunch and breakfast here and both have been great. The service is very friendly and attentive. I recommend it if you’re looking for a cozy place with good food.

Justin K. writes: «Now why so bad, the place was full of old people some with blue tinted or pink tinted hair» ___________________________________________________________ Justin, I will make sure to follow your reviews of restaurants you like, since I want to avoid any eating place that might be favored by ageist bigots. For the rest of readers, Hammersmith Inn serves a really good breakfast. It’s a small, family place that’s been in the center of Saugus for years, one of those places the locals pick over the usual chain restaurants. Good food and great value, give it a try.

Eric, Liz, and I, we do breakfast. Sometimes once, sometimes twice, every weekend. So today, I said, let’s do hammersmith, so we can Unilocal it. It’s never good to be mediocre with three Unilocalers at the table, even worse to be plain bad, as overall glowing reviews can take a nosedive, within a day. This unfortunately would be the case for hammersmith today. Before reading more let me reccomend tumble inn diner, just down the road, instead of hammersmith. Now why so bad, the place was full of old people some with blue tinted or pink tinted hair and obviously with no taste-buds. Rub hands on wall and feel ketchup and food splatters that never have ever been cleaned. Seats falling apart, and rickety tables. Food, run of the mill, nothing good. Breakfast potatoes, super bright orange and not an ounce of flavor, not even potato flavored. Sad really. Dirty place, gross, stay away!

Friendly atmosphere. Great portions for the price. The décor leaves a lot to be desired but it’s the friendliness that attracts. Fresh meals and a full bar also compliments the restaurant. Their American chop suey is heavenly. Stop in and say hello!

Does The iced coffee come with refills? The home fries have no flavor. I understand that alot of old people come here. But what about the rest of the world. I like some seasoning on my food. Apparently you have to ask for butter cause the only thing they give you on your plate is smart balance. I think the only things with flavor are the items of food that they actually don’t make, like the kielbasa, and the toast. Also they should wipe down the walls of spattered food. My friend ordered a glass of milk and I thought milk was supposed to be cold but we had to ask for ice. I know I won’t be back to this place. Kinda pricey. I recommend only the tumble inn in Saugus only for local eats.

This local fav, as evidenced by the crowd of regulars, is very easy to rave about. GOONLY if you want a good breakfast, lots of food, inexpensive, friendly atmosphere, and did we say GOODFOOD! Our usual fare of 2 over easy, home fries, bacon and hash were done to perfection. Fries were well done and tasty while not being greasy or too crispy. Coffee… well there is no bottom to that cup and it is quite good. Décor is what you would expect in a local hangout, clean and what we like to call Diner style. Great value and easy parking with their own lot. The restaurant is small so DON’T miss it… we did. The Breakfast Guys

I have been coming here for years, and love the family atmosphere and the huge portions. The breakfast menu is loaded with lots of yummy treats and every meal is giant. The chocolate chip pancakes are loaded with chips, covered in butter and powdered sugar and are more than enough for even the biggest appetite. The Hammersmith Special consists of huge portions of pancakes, bacon and eggs. On Sundays they are only open for breakfast but are open until 1 pm. They only take cash which is good to know, and the place is loaded with regulars most of the time but they are always so warm to the occasional diners. Great value too! They also do take out.
