Was up in Saratoga today shopping with friend and trying to find a place we haven’t eaten at, so I Unilocal and found the barrel house. This is a bar for the most part but the food is unique and very different from most bars. I order the raspberry beret which is a smoked turkey sandwich on a pretzel bun topped with melted cheese and raspberry mayo, my friend had the pork and pepper quesadilla that consist of pull pork and sauté peppers with a lot of cheese. The food was outstanding, I would definitely come back here agin. This place is off the beaten path in what use to be Saratoga artist cumminity which disappeared and now is becoming a great street for restaurants.

This was our first time here. Great beer selection, with some local beers to choose from. I had the delicious Apple Barrel Blue salad. Some others in my party had some yummy looking burgers. Great place! We will be back!

The Barrel House combines a great tap beer selection with a creative menu featuring house smoked meats and local items in a fun laid back atmosphere. There’s a dart board, patio, and some tvs if you want to catch a game. I love their meat — check out the burnt end chili.

i decided to try Barrelhouse since it was offering a $ 10 lunch special as part of Saratoga’s Restaurant Week. Opening the front door proved strange as the handle is abnormally low. Upon walking in, we weren’t seated by anyone, so we picked a table and seated ourselves. Tyler the bartender was the lone server today, so thankfully the place was quiet. The $ 10 special included choice of soup, a sandwich, and a cookie for dessert. I opted for the beer cheese soup which was decent. There wasn’t anything bad about it, but it didn’t really stand out in any way. It didn’t have many cheeses, and it could have used some spices. Likewise, my ADK Pit Beef sandwich was also just okay and not noteworthy. For a place specializing in smoked meats, I was really hoping their beef would have been flavorful and well spiced. I hate to use the following comparison, but the sandwich was a marginal improvement over one from Arby’s. At least the chocolate chip cookie was good. It was freshly baked and loaded with chocolate chips. The restaurant has a decent beer selection and puts the price of your draft up to a coin toss(heads $ 4, tails $ 2). Several TVs line the place and play various sports games, so overall this establishment has more of a sports bar feel than a BBQ specialty place. TL;DR = Barrelhouse is just okay. It’s not bad, but it’s not breathtaking either.

Beekman Street is noted for several restaurants and a craft community. One of the newer restaurants is The Barrel House, which replaced Gotchya’s about a year ago. Walking inside, nothing looks like it changed during the reincarnation, except the menu. There is still a decent selection of beers on their 20 taps from which we selected a Ground Control Double Imperial Stout($ 6⁄12 oz.; 10% a.b.v.) and a Frederic Robinson Limited ESB($ 6/pt.; 4.7 a.b.v.) The ESB was not as bitter as we would have expected, but as expected at 10% a.b.v. the Ground Control was a delicious sipping brew. We started with a special appetizer called Dipsy Doodles($ 8) which was basically nachos made with Wise Dipsy Doodles, of course. These corn chips were covered with a salsa, some beans, sour cream, and one chunk of smoked pork end piece that was very dried and hard to shred, let alone chew. The smallness of the chips made it very difficult to eat with your hands compared to most other nachos. The flavors were decent, however, or else my inner salt need was simply crying out for more. My wife ordered a Quesadilla from the day’s special($ 12) which was a flour tortilla filled with some type of cheese, onion, and their smoked pork. It came with a small side of utilitarian guacamole. Nothing special here at all. My choice was the Three Meat Treat($ 11.50) which consisted of a burger patty topped with bacon, pulled pork, and Oscar’s Hickory Spread. It also came with two sides which I chose to be their cole slaw and potato salad. The burger was cooked medium rare without my even asking, the bacon was probably also from Oscar’s and would have benefited from a little longer time in the pan, and the pulled pork would have benefited from additional shredding. While the flavors of all the meats were very good, the surprising highlight turned out to be the hickory sauce. The sauce actually gave the whole sandwich a moistness and a cheesy taste in addition to a really nice hickory flavor. The roll was not too bready for such a large amount of meat, but the sides again were nothing to write home about. Service was good. In addition to our server, the bartender stopped by a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. I’d give another half star just for the beer.

Awesome from the time we walked in the door until we left! Great choices of beers to start. Fantastic smoked pork and ham sandwich, came with 2 pretty good sides. Prices very reasonable and really good service to boot. Will surely be back again.

Great mellow, friendly atmosphere on a late Thursday night outside of track season. Super beer selection on draft and in bottles. Great burger. Knowledgeable and warm staff and owners. Welcoming friendly clientele. Established in 2014 and I hope it’ll be here for many future visits!

Great find! This is the spot we were looking for in Saratoga. Off the main strip, comfortable atmosphere, great beer selection and good food. Stopped in last night for a couple beers and the pulled pork sandwich and was not disappointed. Bartender was great, super knowledgable and friendly. This will be a staple on our Saratoga trips in the future

YES. This place is my new favorite spot for when I visit Saratoga(quite frequently). The walls are covered with vintage beer signs, cans, clocks… all sorts of memorabilia… not to mention the NY Rangers corner :) The atmosphere of the place is just fantastic. It’s a total local hangout and the owner is usually there hanging out with customers. Things to know: there is no table service. You have to order your food from the food service window. They will bring your food out to you, however. Food is fantastic– it is all sandwiches/burgers/salads but they are all super filling and delicious– I believe all the meats come from Oscars. They have a great selection of both draft and can/bottle beers. Will be coming back!

Our new home away from home! The owners are wonderful– fun to talk to and put a lot of heart into this place. Great beer selection and dare I say– even BETTER food. Meats are from oscar’s or house smoked. If you skip the daily specials, you’re missing out! My personal new favorite is the nine and shine– nine pin cider with local moonshine! Don’t skip the slaw– pretty much to die for! Great local spot!

Went in hungry for dinner. Service started strong but after 25 minutes of being ignored, with a menu in front of me on the bar, ready to order… I got the check and left. Won’t be back. Just because I was alone doesn’t mean I’m not a customer worthy of your attention, Tyler. Ill try down the street.

Tried the Barrelhouse on the strength of a great review in T-U and I would say it’s ok, but not great. Had the pulled pork on pretzel bun, the latter being the most interesting part of the meal. A wide and shallow discus that manages to soak up lots of slaw juice and barbecue sauce but not to hold the sandwich, which really needs to be eaten with a fork. Pork was fine, as was the vinegary slaw but my other two sides(potato salad and baked beans) were bland and that knocks down my score. The space seems identical to Gotchya’s which I last frequented 5 years ago, right down to the trestle table my kids used to hide under. [UPDATE: I’ve been informed this table was in fact made for Barrelhouse.] That’s fine… it’s a cozy but serviceable space. The beer list is broad but not deep: you’ll find a safe choice in your specialty(mine was Ithaca Flower Power IPA) but not something that takes you to a new place.

Great new spot in Saratoga! Really nice selection of beers, but if you’re a wine drinker, there are options for you as well. Simple is the key here w/r/t the food. There are sandwiches, burgers, a few appetizers and daily specials. There are a few non-meat options, so there is something for everyone on the menu. The staff is friendly and they know about their beers. Casual, cool place to hang out or grab a bite. I’m a fan and will be back.

Reminicent of a German Brahaus with many tap beers and a menu of smoked sausages and meets. Comfortable, cozy atmosphere and excellent service from the owner/servers.
