Heinrich’s German Grill

Good vibe, great staff, and amazing food. Heinrich himself greeted his clients and personally hung out with us. A review cannot justify how great their food is.

OK… I admit it. I LOVE rouladen and spatzel and red cabbage and German beer. And it’s all right here at this little strip mall restaurant. The family makes the food; the family serves the food and they are friendly and even chatty when they are not too busy. I wish I could comment about other menu items, but this is my rouladen go to place. I do think I tried one of their soups once on a winter day and remember it being tasty. The ambiance is decent and they do have a decent bar too. My only wish is that they would provide two pieces of rouladen instead of one, but since I had a quadruple bypass seven weeks ago, maybe that’s a good thing. Go there and be happy… everyone else seems to be when they eat there! (I have never been to Germany, so my taste for German food is based on growing up in Texas where there were a lot of German communities so I can’t comment on its authenticity.)

We went there based on friends recommendations. Very nice atmosphere, service was excellent and the food was great. Heinrich came out and introduced himself and checked on us. We will definitely go back.

Been there twice in past 2 weeks… both times the meal was delicious… like a home cooked meal, and the waiter Jason, very knowledgeable about the whole menu and all the beer choices. Will be back there many times…

One can always tell an owner/​operator restaurant because of the extra effort put on service. Didn’t have reservations so had to sit at the bar… no problem the owner/​chef adjusted the air con for us. Ordered a good dark German beer and had the pork knuckle with potato pancakes and spätzle…delicious and highly recommended.

We enjoyed a delicious and authentic meal here with friends. The menu is definitely schnitzel focused, and I liked the unusual and copious options that they offer with their schnitzel. I went for the chicken schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, which comes with 2 sides, so I also got to enjoy their house made spätzle and red cabbage. The schnitzel was first rate; fried to a golden perfection, with a crispy crust and tender interior. It’s a real gift, being able to keep chicken breast that’s pounded this thin and fried juicy inside, so hats off to the chef, who visits each table and asks how things are. The spätzle was tender and the red cabbage had just the right amount of sweet and sour going on. Wunderbar! I had a glass of dry Riesling with my meal, which was the perfect accompaniment and a very reasonable $ 6. Service was attentive and friendly, and only lagged a little at the end when things got really busy. Nice folks and good food.

I didn’t expect to find an authentic German restaurant in a strip mall in Sarasota. I loved my meal here and the hospitality as well. The menu is mainly schnitzel in many forms and sausages. I tried the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and chose sauerkraut and potato pancakes for sides. All was wonderful. The schnitzel wasn’t greasy and the sauce was mushroomy goodness. The pancakes similarly weren’t oily and they sent out some applesauce to go with them. I love them and these were great. The sauerkraut is good. Would be happy to go back.

Heinrich’s! Oh, Heinrich’s will always hold a special place in my heart! My favorite thing about this restaurant (aside from the food) is that Heinrich himself comes out and greets/​talks to guests at their tables. All items on the menu are recipes by Heinrich and his wife. Heinrich is wonderful and, although I’ve never met his wife, I have seen her cooking away in the kitchen area! Every time my husband and I have been here, Heinrich has stopped by to say hello, give any food recommendations, and to see how our food is (it’s ALWAYS amazing). He once told us, about his food, «If I don’t like it, it doesn’t go on the menu» haha! Well he’s got some pretty snazzy taste buds because the food is awesome!
This wonderful restaurant is run by hard working, friendly people who cook with passion, love food, and all in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
So, order the ham hock, grab a boot beer, and say hello Heinrich!

That… Was… Incredible! I had the chicken jäger schnitzel and it was perfect; juicy, tender, and flavorful. Our server, Jason, was incredibly busy, but attentive. This is a busy, tiny little gem of a restaurant, reservations are necessary, and isn’t good if you’re looking for a quick in-​and-​out meal. Enjoy a German beer, enjoy the owner cooking your meal, and enjoy the experience.

Heinrich is almost invariably there and cares enough to check in with all of his diners. And cared enough to have finally dismissed a persistently sour employee. Dinner tonight was just wonderful. Thank you, Heinrich, and keep up the good work:) we’ll be back for a boot of Oktoberfest!

I have eaten here in several occasions and after living in Germany for 10 years this is the closest place to being there that I have found, great people and good food, authentic German food and great bier

Food is good but watch out for the specials. 35.00 for the knuckle (pork shank)
It should be 20 – 25.
It was not priced and I did not ask.

I am from Chicago and know good food… so always a bit disappointed by restaurants down here, but this is a winner!
Owner even came around to make sure we were happy.
Definitely on my favorite list!

So, I had a tough time with this review.
We went last night, and the food overall was good.
However, I went in knowing this was going to be an expensive meal — just not how expensive. $ 80 for two (after tip.) We each had a beer yes, but after a quick scan of the bill, there are a lot of surcharges (esp. for cheese) that were not on the menu, or explained to us by the server.
There were $ 10 in surcharges, and the draft beer is pricey $ 7.50/glass — but it is imported and tasted good so that can be forgiven.
I just got the vibe after the online menu had no pricing, and the bill came back and had to be explained in order to be understood, and there was one server who was working the entire dining room on a busy Saturday evening (and doing a pretty decent job, even though he looked like he needed a break badly, tip to management) That this place is hurting for cash. Dont get me wrong, the food is good, but just not at this price-​point.

This place is fantastic. I lived in Germany and visit each year for business, Heinrich and his wife treated me like family. The Weiner Schnitzel «special» has their special sauce and it is to die for. There are several German beers to choose from and the staff are very attentive.
I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Be sure to try the authentic potato pancakes

So. I am SPEECHLESS. Walked in tonight and asked to be seated. Restaurant is full, okay? Server comes up to us and says, «We’re done» and we’re like, «what???» What does that mean right? He says, «we’re done, we’re closed.» Excuse me? Then when we asked for an explanation, we get told some strange story about how the chef is sick and blah blah blah. Rude customer service. If you are closed, put the closed sign up and if someone walks into your restaurant don’t say from the get go «We’re done.» I honestly for a second thought it was a weird joke. Why not say, «so sorry folks but our chef is ill and we had to close early»? Instead of «we’re done.» I am NEVER coming back. We ARE done.

This is our second visit at Heinrich’s in last 3 days. Usually, during our vacation days we try to patronized different cousins. We were impressed with quality of the food and friendly owner that we came back. Schweinshaxe was outstanding, Bratwursts were standard, but combined with traditional German potato salad and homemade sauerkraut excellent.
Highly recommended place for dinner during tie stay in Sarasota.

This was our second time here. Absolutely wonderful. I had the short ribs special which was delicious, not being a cabbage fan, I opted for the salad, green beans and potato pancakes. My husband wanted to come here for his birthday and Jason was our server. He is a great guy, very knowledgeable and helped me with menu. He was spot on and the food was so good. Thank you for a great experience! We will be back!

I would give 4 ½ stars if possible. The only draw back was the price. We had the pork shanks with sauerkraut and spitzle. The portions were huge. We could of shared one plate and still had left overs. The shank was perfect. The waitstaff was great and the owner came to greet us.
Only recommendation is to ask the price of the specials before you order it or you will be surprised when the check comes. Still great… Will return for sure

This has to be the best German restraunt in southwest Florida ! From the second we stepped in and WS greeted by the Chef Owner til the second we left we were treated with 1^st class service. The food is absolutely fantastic. Authentic and delicious. Portions are perfect if not large. Everything is made from scratch on site. The German draft beer selection was great in addition to the many sizes from the small 12oz to the 2litre DasBoot! The pork shank if you can get one is fantastic. Recommend you call ahead as there made to order prior and only a couple extra does he make. My wife did not like German food til she are here. We came with another couple who as well became new fans and looks forward to our next visit.
