In the grand scheme of what passes for a farmer’s market in this area of Florida — and I am including as far north as Tampa(maybe further), and probably down to at least Fort Myers — nothing comes close to Detwiler’s. In fact, the only place that I have ever been that is better is 550 miles away in Decatur, GA(shout out to Dekalb Farmer’s Market). I first went to the Detwiler’s off of Cattlemen Road, just south of Fruitville, when Melissa discovered it while I was living in Sarasota and she was visiting from Atlanta. That location was fantastic — small, and without a butcher section — but the produce was fresh, cheaper than any supermarket, and the seafood was equally cheap and wonderful. Naturally, they open this location less than 2 miles from my old apartment only after I move to St. Pete. A location with a larger deli section, a larger produce section, a butcher, a bakery, and other fresh groceries. I cannot speak for the quality of their canned, boxed, and other goods, as the only thing I ever bought from Detwiler’s other than produce, seafood, and deli meat is southern hot chow chow(which is fantastic, by the way). However, I can speak for everything else: First, the produce — some of the largest pieces of vegetables I have ever seen. They don’t have everything you can get at the grocery store, so you may not be able to complete your shopping here, but they have a lot. It’s all as fresh as can be and the prices are significantly less — at least for a lot of items — than Publix or Winn Dixie. And don’t let my caveat fool you — they are missing some things, but they have a lot. Give you one example of many, honeycrisp apples — $ 4.99/pound at publix, $ 2.89/pound here. Second, the deli — an expanded deli department, and they do have some boars head stuff, but the Troyer’s amish deli meat is the best. A good dollar or two cheaper per pound and delicious, with some great variety like cajun turkey and ham. And of course, fresh pepper bacon, which is awesome. They also added in a sandwich station. I can’t say much about the butcher as I didn’t buy anything. However, their meat prices are not that much better, if at all, than the grocery store. What it is though is fresher. The meat looks better, and in many cases, is healthier(e.g., grass fed, organic, etc). Even if you pay a bit more here, it is probably worth it for the quality. I did notice that their chicken is significantly cheaper than publix. The seafood section is just like the other location, only bigger. A ton of variety, all of it wild and all of it looks like it came off the boat an hour ago. Another price example for you — jumbo sea scallops, on sale at Publix it’s $ 19.99/lb. Here, $ 16+/- per pound. It’s really amazing the quality they get at these prices. And like any good Detwiler’s, they have olaf’s ice cream right at the front door. It gets me every time on my way out, and they know it. There’s a reason it’s right up front. As it has come to my attention that while I now live 45 minutes away, I also still work only 20 minutes away, and so, I will be showing my smiling face a lot more at Dewiler’s. My apologies to those of you who will have to see it.

I shop here every week, but I find the produce inconsistent. Sometimes I luck out and get great stuff, fennel last week was huge and fresh, but other times I get home and find spoiled produce after only 2 days. Purchased mangoes last week, they had brown spots on one side, the other side not ripe on the 2nd day. Apples this fall were mediocre. But the red peppers are always good. So, my advice is to be selective in your produce choices. I do buy seafood here, the shrimp and scallops have been consistently good. I am glad to have Detwiller’s as an option.

They finally have the Big Olaf ice cream by the pint & half gallon!!! It’s around $ 3.5 and $ 6.5 respectively. Beats paying $ 1.25 for a cone. I’ve been to Detwiler’s 10+ times since they opened. Every staff is friendly and looks to be having a great time working there. Detwiler’s, where shopping is truly a pleasure ;)

My last day in town a for a few weeks, so I came by here to grab a snack. The first thing that greeted me was the amazing, sweet smell of strawberries as I walked in. All my want. They all looked so damn good and yummy. The other produce looked great as well. I got a pecan pie bar for $ 1.50. It was super good and super soft and super fresh. I can’t wait to come back to try more things here.

A true *family owned* supermarket with country fresh organic quality and surprising values throughout the store. We discovered the place when we tasted one of their Braveheart ribeye steaks at a friend’s cookout. The BEST steak in the area(compared to Chop Shop, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Publix) for $ 13.98 a pound but sometimes on sale for $ 9.99. Terrific produce department(try the organic garlic if it’s in). Great deli. And the bakery is amazing… don’t miss the carrot cake, pies and bread. Staff is super friendly and super helpful. Detwiler’s is worth a detour!

Detweilers is my main choice now for groceries. Even though I’ve moved to St Pete, I still come here almost every weekend to do my weekly shopping. Prices here are unbeatable! They have great deals all the time for foods I’ve never tried. It gives me a reason to branch out and try out new foods. I love that their deli offers Boar’s Head but Troyer is also amazing. I get a different type of deli meat every time I go. The only downside is that you may need to spend a little time picking out the good produce from the ones going bad. I bought bread twice before but both times the bread molded a day or 2 later. Everyone who works at Detweilers is friendly and will help you if you need assistance. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Awesome fish, meat and deli departments. They carry Boars Head. If our looking for Low sodium deli you found it. I got some Hake(fish) for $ 5.99 a pound on sale. They had huge claw’s for $ 35.00 a pound which looked mighty tasty, but, I wasn’t feeling like dropping $ 35.00. Friendly helpful staff.

Great prices on produce. Lots of selection and cheap prices on in-season produce. Very large store that has a deli, meat, and seafood counter along with a little bakery. They have Big Olaf ice cream in the front and a cone is only $ 1 or so. Very very cheap compared to other locations.

So glad I found Detwiler’s; I’ve been missing out on some fresh produce with great pricing. They have a great variety. I can’t wait to return to buy more goodies.

We think that Detwiler Farm Market is a hidden gem. We were so excited to find such a great place, where we can get fresh tasting vegetables, fruits, meats and fish… The store is filled with so much more food than I’ve even mentioned. We love to cook and enjoy it so much more when we can buy fresh ingredients. We also make smoothies every single day and the price of their blueberries, strawberries and other fruits are cheaper than any other large grocery store. On top of that, they are a fresher and a better quality. They also have a little area where they sell scoops of ice cream. We are happy to go there every couple of days just to get fresh ingredients. They have two locations, so one has to be in your area. If you’re looking for great prices, fresh, wonderful tasting food, then I would absolutely try Detwiler’s.

Best grocery store ever. The old, smaller location was great but crowded. The same large selection of fresh produce but the huge new store allows for a more pleasant experience and carries wonderful, well priced cold cuts, a huge selection of fresh fish and beautiful meats AND almost anything else you would ever want. Best prices. Freshest produce.

Great fresh produce for amazing price! I only go there for the fresh produce. Best prices in town for it. The meat, sea food and dairy are somewhat costly and the prepared salsa/dips are very high in salts. Overall still the best place to go for fresh produce and bread!

Although this location is a bit further from where I live to the original location. I have to say it is always worth the drive. As for the Detwiller’s reputation, it exceeds in this location. What was once the old Winn Dixie, Detwiller’s has taken this building to a fresher and more customer friendly market place to shop. Their fruit and veggies are always fresh and lower cost than any local food market chains. Their seafood counter is very impressive, freshest local catch and with a huge variety. Their deli counter is also impressive they have all the meats and cheeses to make awesome sandwiches. If you haven’t experienced Detwiller’s I would check it out, for me I’m sold by it even over Fresh Market and Whole Foods because of their difference in pricing.

This market is so much more than produce although the produce was at the top of my list of favorite points and I will never buy it again elsewhere unless absolutely necessary. There are SOMANY standard fruits and veggies to choose from however, there is also a vast selection of rare and hard to find items as well. I especially love that most items are locally grown, all are of amazing quality, and they are cheaper than you can find at any grocery store. About a week ago during my visit I went a bit overboard and brought home more fresh items than I normally would. What we have not used yet is STILL fresh with no signs of aging yet! YAY! You could quite literally do all of your grocery shopping here too. There is a well stocked deli, many specialty items(canned/jarred items), a seafood counter, dairy, and grocery items. There is even a Big Olaf ice cream counter.

I’ve been going to the Detwiler off of Palmer for some time now, and was super excited to hear that there was going to be a new location closer to home! The prices for produce is hard to beat and I never have any quality complaints. My go to place for fruits and veggies. Many harder to find things can be found here. For example, spaghetti squash! Fish from the deli was a steal when it was on sale. Look out for sales because they have them often. Other than produce, deli, and all natural butters, the rest of the market is on the pricer side. Don’t forget to grab some Nutella ice cream, with actual frozen pieces of Nutella, on your way out. Yum!

Pros: LOTS of produce, most of it fresh. Big organic selection. Loose, fresh beets without tops. Local honey selection, bulk items pre-bagged included whole grain and gluten-free items. Exotic, imported grocery items include Bob’s Red Mill items and Amish noodles. Amish Wedding brand items. Bakery makes a great selection, look for cinnamon apple bread. Huge deli case. Cons: Fish case selection looked too old for me to buy anything. Deli items are priced at full retail. Their dairy case is not cooling, the butter is soft and the cheeses are sweating. Kettle corn sold in large, over-priced bags is terrible. ‘Bulk’ items are pre-bagged, include junk food/candy and highly processed items full of salt. No cash back given on debit cards. Ladies room shabby, had no toilet paper, a roll of paper towels was being passed around for that. Their plumbing bill may teach them to be more considerate. Vent over one toilet is literally falling out of the ceiling(see photo)
