James Yu is an honest and incredibly conscientious dentist who cares about his patients. He invests in his equipment, which are modern and well maintained. He pays attention to your teeth as though you are his only patient, so he does run over, and you always have to wait for your appointment. I have found this to be true of medical professionals who are patient-centric. There’s a much longer wait for them(so you get annoyed), but when you see them and receive their attention, you realize why you had to wait so long and all is forgiven. He takes care of my dental health more than any other dentists I’ve ever had. And he cares about his patients(as people not as clients to make money from). He remembers my case and my history. He has squeezed me in to help me out. Apparently, he does this for his other patients, too. He’ll work past his normal hours(all the office staff are gone, and he’s still working on patients). He even gives up his weekends for his patients. He has a loyal following of patients who have been seeing him for years – many even come all the way from the East Bay! I’m not quite sure about the other review. James Yu is not the kind of dentist who misses cavities(and multiple ones at that!). If you’ve been seeing a dentist(especially a conscientious dentist who is dedicated to his patients) who doesn’t see any cavity, and then you go to another one who claims you have multiple cavities, I would get a second opinion from a third party and see if they find cavities. The same eight cavities. Dentists gain nothing from«missing» cavities – they make money finding them. I had encountered a dentist who claimed I had multiple cavities which turned out to be false. When getting surprises about well-cared-for teeth, get second opinions to to confirm or refute diagnoses. This is not as rare as one would hope. Someone I know well had another dentist who«discovered» multiple cavities missed by the previous dentist. Unfortunately, she did not seek out a second opinion until too late. Be careful when selecting your dentist. It’s important to get a dentist whose integrity you will never doubt, and James Yu gets a five stars for that.

AVOIDATALLCOST! He screwed over my teeth. I’ve been going to him twice a year for dental cleanings. I actually do not avoid the dentist because I know how important it is to have good oral hygiene. I didn’t like him because he was never on time for appointments(always at least half hour late and made patients wait) and I finally decided to switch dentists. So I go to my new dentist who explains to me that I have 8 cavities sitting in my mouth and that they have been there for years! What excuse does Dr. Yu have for not telling me about my EIGHT cavities? I’m sure they didn’t just pop up in the last six months since my last cleaning at his office. He is an older dentist and is not keeping up with the latest technologies or standard dental practices. If you don’t want to discover a mouthful of cavities even though you go to dentist all the time, do not give him business. Do not visit him and switch your dentist if you are seeing him. He is bad news.
