Yanagi May DDS

I have to say that this was a refreshing change from the last dentist office I went to where they were more concerned about cosmetic improvements (I have straight, healthy teeth!) and upselling me than comfortably giving me the quality care I actually NEED. Dr. Yanagi and Van Ness Dental Group staff were friendly, efficient, straightforward, caring, and knowledgeable. It very much reminded me of the relief of finally going to a mechanic who is upfront with you, takes good care of you and your car, and doesn’t try to sell you a bunch of unnecessary fixes. Since they are located in the Mission Neighborhood Health Center it does have a «public health clinic» feel (don’t expect plush waiting rooms, lots of freebees, or fancy equipment. Furthermore, Dr. Yanagi was careful about the fact that I am pregnant, and advised me on when to come back for more in-​depth work and what to talk to my OB/​GYN about re: dentistry. I felt like I’d been seeing her for years. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience and will definitely go back to see Dr. Yanagi for my next visit.

I say Dr May for the first time yesterday for a checkup and cleaning, and was quite pleased by the experience. She was professional and engaging, and gave intelligent advice.

May Yanagi has been my dentist for over 20 years, and all my teeth are still in my head. She’s very competent, does all her own teeth cleaning, and she keeps my teeth and mouth healthy. The office isn’t flashy, but the staff are nice, all fluent in Spanish, and she’s conservative in doing proceedures. If you want Nitrous and cosmetic dentistry, this may not be your place, but if you want solid preventative dentistry, May has done a terrific job for me.
