World Theatre-olde chinatown SF

World Theatre’s forte was cantonese black & white films and movies from China.
World was one of the nicer and bigger movie theatres in chinatown.
World was the only theatre in Chinatown to show films from the People’s Republic of China.

–Red Detachment of Women
–Red Flag Canal
–Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy
when these films were shown, i remembered protests/​picketing held outside the theatre (by the local Kuomintang-​Nationalist Party of taiwan).
i seldom saw chinese films here. (free showings available in oaktown). probably went when there was a kung fu flick or something really interesting. didn’t go when they had XXX fare though.
