This place is a straight rip off. Overcharged me on cigarettes just cuz he thought I was faded. Called him out and he said some shit about not checking my drivers Id and minimum charge. Shady owner. never stopping by again.

In theory, a grocery store turns profits by buying inventory in bulk from warehouses, then marking up prices on individual goods. As demand increases, supply decreases. The problem with this«business»(extremely loose definition) is that there is no supply. There isn’t any inventory to purchase. There are no items in the store. I keep thinking that this must be a mistake, but I’ve been trying to come here for six months to buy the absolute basics and they don’t have anything. I hope this place shuts down as soon as possible. It’s a pathetic excuse for a corner store. That building would serve better use as a public urinal.

reliable little place with a decent selection of cigarettes and alcohol and junk food, and an ATM.

Walking along Folsom I saw a lot of restaurants but only one supermarket. I agree with the other reviews regarding the prices. Definitely avoid this place if possible!

After living in the neighborhood for a few years, I’ve been back to this store off and on for quite some time, and can say they have improved things. Maybe it was the guy that was running things before, who is no longer there. Hard to say. In any case, the current crew seems to stay on top of things much better. I no longer find expired goods, and am generally happy with what they do have. It isn’t exciting, but they’ve got the basics. I’ve upgraded my rating to a solid 3 stars.

Maybe its just because Im a regular, but I beg to differ with a lot of these reviews. Yes its a little pricey for liquor but honestly most liquor stores are. If you want cheap booze plan ahead and go to Safeway or Costco. If its 1 am and your party needs a little more alcohol to power through then you accept that you have to cough up a few extra bucks for the convenience. The staff here is really nice and yes their prices vary but if you are nice and just chat with them they will always hook you up. I’ve gotten great deals just by being nice and asking them how their night was going instead of being a drunk obnoxious douche(which is what half their clients are on a weekend night). I cant really attest to the food because honestly I dont buy groceries at liquor stores. And if I do I always check the expiration date first because lets be honest, their grocery stock doesnt have the highest turnover. So be smart people. Honestly I dont see how other reviewers can compare this place to somewhere like Mi Tierra(which I love) because one is a full on grocery store(which doesnt sell alcohol) and the other is a liquor store. Bottom line is if its late and you need some booze don’t dismiss Welcome Market. They arent the cheapest and they don’t have the biggest stock… but they are open late and they take cards which is more than I can say for most places in the area.

The dude working there is the most unfriendliest. he also sold me rancid milk! YAY(somehow I wasn’t at all surprised) I’ve read other reviews and that thing they do with quoting prices out their a$$ is spot on The only I’d get are packs of Lay’s cuz the price is printed on that but I’m sure there’s a whole other conspiracy with that haha Don’t go there! Ever!

This place kinda sucks. Cigarettes at $ 5.50 a pack geez and don’t even get me started on beer. I can hardly call it a supermarket considering all of the dust I see from the food sitting there for apparently a really long time.

Matthew N. is totally right about this place… total ripoff. There’s a reason they don’t put price tags on anything. A buddy of mine went in there on a Sunday afternoon and paid $ 6 for a pack of ciggies. Another time he charged me $ 10 for a six-pack of Sapporo. Insane! Word to the wise: when he rings you up for some ungodly amount, become totally indignant and say you’re from the neighborhood. With any luck, his conscience might kick in. Good luck!

This corner store is extremely overpriced because of the night clubs and restaurants on this block including brainwash laundromat/café, night club«eight», restaurant triptych, and restaurant basil next door. For a cheaper liquor store to up 8th toward market turn left on the alley and turn right on 9th and its on the right hand side of the street. Everything at Welcome super market is at least a dollar to two dollars more expensive. Expect to pay at least 9 dollars for a six pack and 2.50 for a tall can. UPDATE: September 12, 2006 I went here last night because City Beer Store was closed. It was a mistake. If you could give this place zero stars I would. First I walk in and I’m looking at the beer. I say«How much is this 18 pack of heineken?» and the old guy with a combover says«19… 20…» then when I walk over to him, he rings it up for 20.99 plus tax. I don’t know how a 18 pack of beer goes up 3 dollars in 10 seconds, but in addition he put tax on and now the beer which he originally said was 19 is 22.75. I hate this liquor store, they are hella shady. My friend went there and they gave him parliaments for $ 4.75 and then another friend went there and they charged $ 5.50 for the same pack. This place is shady.
