Went there on NYE and had the nastiest margarita… Never again… My friends and I left within 20 minutes.

The staff is delightful, the drinks are delicious, and the the atmosphere is divine. The outdoor patio space allows for quiet conversation even when the bar is packed… which is most nights! I highly recommend stopping in for a drink or two at San Francisco’s best bar.

This is the most amazing place to spend an evening. The cocktails are the best in town, the music is always perfect, and the ambiance is cozy and fun. To top that off they have a stellar staff.

These guys are doing all the right things. Down to earth, involved in the community, the drinks are great and there’s a patio! They even brought Nap back for Karaōke. Stop in and support the cause. Taking the neighborhood bar into 2016.

Never felt compelled to rate a spot until Virgil’s. Dopest bar, excellent staff, and legit drinks. Tom is a good man, he’ll take care of you. Virgil’s patio is one of my most favorite outdoor spots in the city. It’s a bit of a trek for me on the west side of town but so worth it every time.

Every time I’ve been to Virgil’s I’m fully satisfied. Wether it be a casual weeknight after work drink, or one of the best New Years Eve parties in San Francisco. Solid drinks, great people, superb patio.

Stumbled upon Virgil’s Sea Room on my last trip to SF. The drinks were fantastic, the service superb, the environment comfy & cool. I heard it is a queer-owned, small business and I love to support that. I love that I can get a pitcher of margaritas. Their margaritas are my jam!

Virgil’s made an excellent addition to South Mission/Bernal/LA LENGUA area when it opened next door to El Rio, and I’m happy to report that it is just as charming as ever! I pay close attention when a new bar opens up within walking distance of my house, and sadly there have been a few that won’t be seeing a second trip(think overpriced, «sceney»). Virgil’s is the exact opposite: bartenders are all babes, drinks are great and not insanely priced, and the crowd is cute as heck. As HECK, you hear me? And that patio on nice days is a ‘lil slice of heaven.

Easily one of my favorite bars in SF. Space, spirits, and bartenders are excellent! Recent experience with booking private party went so well. Emailed about a month ahead and they reserved two-tables on a Saturday night for no charge! Amazing. Looking forward to going back.

The other day I was on this dating app for gay/bisexual/questioning men that my therapist told me about called«scruff». I was very bored and well quite frankly kinda a lil horny and since Winston left me in October(he got the dog) I have been having a really hard time and I keep wondering when the next time I will feel a mans touch or soothing caress as im falling into slumber. Well long story short I was in Safeway on Mission and 30th getting my nightly donut and using their restroom. I logged into scruff and saw that someone by the screen name NEthingGOz was 0.3 miles away. I thought oh boy that’s really close. So before I even went to message him he sent me a message first. It simply said«u hung?» I thought oh boy this guy is a real sweetheart I must go meet him. He told me that he was at work and to come in for a beer. So I thought, what the hell why not… I don’t think Winston will be coming back ever again. So I went in and to my surprise I saw this beautiful tall sexy handsome Adonis of a being standing there with such a radiant glow!!! His name was Andy and unfortunately that wasn’t the person I was meeting. The person I was meeting was behind him. He was a lot thicker than his photos and I’m pretty sure he lied about his age because his crows feet must have worn a size 12 shoe! He seemed like he had been through a fucking lot in his life and maybe never really lived up to his family’s expectations and was asked to move out at an early age. Anyway… He served me a beer and we chatted and he was really nice it’s crazy what happens when you give less fortunate looking people a chance. Thank you Virgils for showing me this and thank you to NEthingGOz I forgot your real name… I remember it seemed like it was the name of a Sesame Street character that lived in a trash can. Weird and kinda fitting. Thanks Virgils! Y’all are great!

Hidden gem in San Francisco. My friend took me here and I’ve loved it ever since. Great drinks, love the jukebox, nice bartenders, and ambiance. A little hard to find parking but that’s San Francisco. :)

Fun time, great outdoor patio but wound up paying $ 9 for a lemon drop shot. So kind of meh for a bar in the mission. Other than that, fun for groups and smoking outside. 2 bathrooms and full bar– still a fun hang out

I really love this place. For years, I’ve been frequenting their next door neighbor, El Rio. But, as El Rio gets more and more crowded, and more and more expensive, I’m looking for alternatives in the area. Spotlight on Virgil’s, El Rio’s cuter younger cousin, who’s just a tad bit more sophisticated, and less chaotic on weekends. Inside is adorably decorated, and the outside area is awesome. San Francisco bars with an outside area are somewhat hard to come by, especially ones that aren’t shoulder to shoulder, so Virgil’s is a hidden treasure. On Tuesday’s, they have $ 2 margaritas. I have been to many margaritas nights at bars, who instead of making fresh, will just pre-make them and poor(yikes). Virgil’s makes each one fresh on Tuesday’s(and everyday). I usually just go all out and get a double margarita for $ 4. However, even on Tuesday’s, the margarita pitches are regular priced — $ 25, serves about 6. So, on Tuesday’s, skip the pitcher and get single servings — less expensive, more margarita. Will be coming more and more. Just crossing my fingers it doesn’t get super popular and loses its adorable flair.

Came here after another fabulous SF Fun Run. After running all over the mission our group was ready for some drinks! All the cocktails here look really great, and they have a ton of drink specials. The patio outside is very large and would be perfect for a warm night. They had a the Giants game playing. The staff was very friendly! Will def be back for the cocktails!

We wanted to go to El Rio but when we got there, the front door lady wasn’t letting anyone in(which was weird) and then there was a cover and y’all know I am too old to be charged a cover to get in anywhere. Too old. In our search for an ATM, we stumbled upon Virgil’s Sea Room. I don’t even think there was a sign on the door. Mysterious. Once we came inside and looked around we realized that this place was preferable to El Rio for several reasons. They had seating, both indoor and outdoor, pitchers of margaritas and lovely dark sea-themed décor. Great people watching! Here are a couple of things they should work on: Restroom cleanliness and too much ice in the margarita pitchers.

This is a review that can be accomplished with simplicity. If you’re in The Mission, and you want a cool neighborhood bar with a bit of history in the décor, and you want the bar to have a nice back-patio, this is a good place to try. As many reviews have noted, it is right next door to El Rio. Sunday afternoons mean cover charges and throngs of Missionistas next door. Meanwhile, ‘olé Virgil’s is still reasonably chill. As someone who A) Wants a seat at the bar if I walk-in, B) Likes to hear other people I am with speak, and C) Enjoys an out-door beer on a back-patio, this place is a winner. I have yet to see it super crazy, and I think the service was friendly. They also have a ton on events and rotating drink specials, which you can check-out on their FB Page:

Let’s just rename this place«El Rio is too packed» eh? It’s Sunday. Salsa Night. And there’s no room, so you pop over next door to Virgil’s Sea Room. Their cocktails are weak and overly sweet and your bartender is to cool to be anything other than snarky, but sitting out on their patio you’re practically at El Rio. And that, folks, sums up Virgil’s Sea Room. *Obviously they are cash only– welcome to the Mission, where the 90’s are alive and well! There is one painting of a boat– it’s a «sea room»! … Okay, I’m just bitter about the poor service and drink quality.
