This is your go-to asian grocery joint — nice, clean, varied, and cheap(in a good way) The nice lady at the counter(owner?) gave us a greeting and asked us to explore the store which is quite a difference since I’ve typically found the proprietors of most establishments to ignore their customers. We explored the shop at our own pace and while the shop was on the small side, I found everything I needed to make dinner(beef lo mien, and stir-fry veggies). My girlfriend also commented on how clean the place was and how the shelves were neatly packed. And for me, when it comes to anything with food, clean is a major requirement. I also found a rich variety of sides for my morning congee/rice porridge: fermented tofu squares, pickled baby cucumbers, pickled bamboo shoots, pickled olives, and much much more. - Also another plus, this place was a good bang-for-you-buck. Walk out with plenty of groceries and most of my money still in my wallet. Definitely worth a visit.

Tuong Phong is cramped, not much room to walk around/browse. each aisle capacity is one person. has fresh meats, some produce, usual canned groceries. buys: omei coffee cream cookie(1.49) –tasty but has palm oil. cash only. note: –pricing looks reasonable –couldn’t/didn’t see dried noodles too cramp to look around, person stacking shelves blocked passage.

One of the people in my apartment building told me about this place. I was really happy to find that they have an actual meat counter, in addition to produce and all the other funky packaged items you would expect to find in an Asian market. A nice place for buying the larger bags of rice, too. Pork is around $ 1.99/lb which seems really cheap.(cheap is good!) I don’t know much about meat quality, but my cat will happily eat it cooked or raw, so I take that as a good sign. I’ll usually stop here and get some veggies and pork for an easy stir fry dinner for just a couple dollars. Still have yet to try the individual slabs of tofu that are free floating in a little container in the produce area, for 20 cents each. Produce seems reasonably priced and pretty ok for freshness if you use it within a day or two. Cash only.

One of the best things about living in the TL is the proximity to asian markets. Where I am, there are FOUR asian markets all within a block and a half of where I live. If you count to two blocks distance, there are FIVE. Regular supermarkets have started carrying asian groceries, but nothing beats the price of a real asian grocery store. Tuong Phong has been around for a few years, and the owners are nice folks. My family has been shopping there from the time I was little and we won’t be stopping anytime soon.
