Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. My girlfriend and I ordered Cubano Tortas, which were delicious. The prices were very reasonable, Tortas Picudos will definitely be a place we visit more often. Mexican Torta sandwiches are an often overlooked part of Mexican cuisine, but they are not to be missed! The Tortas we had here were some of the better ones I’ve had anywhere.

Simple yet delicious tortas and smoothies. The piña colada smoothie is the best! Made with fresh coconut water from a real coconut and other tropical fruits. Keeps me and my fiancé coming back for more when we’re in the neighborhood.

Picudos has got some solid Mexican food, but it’s nothing too fancy. I’ve gotten both tortas and burritos here, and while they do give you a lot of bang for your buck, both just came out so-so. Burritos have a lot of pico de gallo and not a lot of meat, while the tortas are just plain messy.

Ordered the carne asada torta. Tasty but so skimpy on the meat! Today I woke up with guttural punches and I’m on the toilet writing about it right now. Food poisoning?! No Bueno

4 stars because I always get 1 sauce for a BIGASS torta! The pro is that it is delicious, it is reasonably sized and they take card. I never leave here without a mango smoothie, SOGOOD. VIVALATORTA!

If you haven’t had a Mexican torta before, haul ass over to Tortas Los Picudos NOW. After a torta experience you’ll never go back to sandwiches /subs. Ever again. Favorites are the breaded chicken and Cuban, plan to try the vegetarian next time… portabello and spinach mmm. The Tortas are stuffed with a generous helping of meat, tomato, lettuce, onion, and best of all, huge chunks of AVOCADO. They don’t skimp on ingredients here and one torta is big enough to last for two meals or split with a friend! Impeccable service each time. The workers are incredibly nice and speedy. Sure will miss this place when I leave SF!

The place has good food; but, there’s better options up the street. It is a small place that attempts to provide a variety of foods and falls short on the quality of them all. Travel 2 minutes west to a more genuine and authentic alternative.

So you thought sandwiches were just American? Nope! Tortas are a Mexican sandwich with your choice of meat, tomato, jalapeño, mayonnaise, avocado and chopped onions and cheese of your choice but if it’s not queso fresco it’s not quite as legit, all served on a hard roll. Although not as common as the burrito they’re sooooo good! My favorite is the chicken Milanesa without jalapeño(cause I’m a wimp) and at $ 7 it’s not a bad price for a fully loaded sandwich you could probably split into two meals. Now all I need is to find a spot that serves Cemitas(a different type of sandwich)

This little place puts out big flavors, but the wait can be a little long. Carnitas is some of the best in the city.

We were on our way to another Mexican place in the Mission(Vallarta) when we passed this. The pictures on the vegetarian menu outside just drew us in. The place is very small with a limited menu. But it has plenty to please just about anybody. My husband ordered the veggie burrito and I ordered the veggie torta without cheese or mayo. Even without those, it was one of the best veggie tortas I have tried. Usually, they are tasteless and lack imagination. The bread on the torta was still crisp, but light. The grilled portabello mushrooms inside were fantastic. It came with plenty of avocado and other fixings. The veggie burrito was similarly lovingly constructed. They used a spinach tortilla, grilled portabello mushrooms and spinach. The tortilla was toasted. My husband asked for no rice and they gladly accommodated him. Their green sauce is amazing too. They have a number of juices also on the menu(Vampiro etc) as well as Bionicos(spelled Vionico here). I was mighty tempted.

This place has hands down the best tortas in the city(as far as I can tell, I haven’t found better ones yet). They are lavishly loaded with salad, tomatoes, jalapeño, avocados(where applicable), and your choice of cheese, meat and other stuff. The bread is slightly toasted and consequently has a perfect crunch to it. I have it on good authority that the veggie torta is awesome, although I myself prefer the chorizo and egg, or one of the milanesas. Compared to rival high quality tortas, say La Torta Gorda a block down, this place is a bit less adventurous(lacking options such as the tinga), and much less cozy(lacking a patio and generally, seating space), but the tortas just taste better. In particular, whenever I go back elsewhere now I find the bread to be soggy. The juices and smoothies are great too — a vampiro a day keeps the doctor away. Or something like that.

Their bread is perfect for the tortas — buttered and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the right amount of chew and heft for the fillings. We tried the carnitas and a carnitas/chorizo. Nice crisp bits of meats, creamy and salty pieces of queso fresco, and really vibrant salsas spooned with each bite. We also tried the vampiro and a green drink. Both were really fresh and vibrant but the green drink was a little too green for me. The wait was long and there really isn’t much of an ambiance to stay and eat. I’d definitely return for a torta fix.

Hooray! I finally found Bionico in SF! If you aren’t familiar with Bionico… will the real wikipedia please stand up: It is essentially a fruit salad consisting of a variety of fruits chopped up into small cubes, drenched with crema and topped off with granola, shredded coconut, raisins and sometimes honey. Any kind of fruit can be used, but it is most commonly made with papaya, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, apples and banana. The crema is usually a mix of condensed milk and sour cream, although there are many different recipes. It’s freaking delicious and refreshing! If you like acai bowls you should definitely seek out some Bionico. Only negative is that we walked home with it and the crema leaked everywhere — so carry it cautiously or eat it there. It’s a bright and pleasant looking shop with a small public restroom that was relatively well cared for. I’ll be returning for a vampiro jugo soon, and maybe a torta… though with La Palma and Basa Seafood Express nearby it’s might take a few more tries.

Today for lunch I wanted a torta so I used my trusty Unilocal app to find Tortas Los Picudos. I ordered the cubano torta, carnitas, and shredded pork with everything(including avocado) and queso fresco. Great size and decent price but all three lack the flavor, not bland, just not delicious. And I was hoping for more meat to balance the thick, dry bread.
